On balance Uber/mytaxi/et al is probably safer than just jumping in with any stranger displaying a "taxi" sign - particularly in Ireland where thousands of convicted criminals are licensed, not to mention millions of immigrants with unverifiable backgrounds - according to the drivers' own representative bodies.

Of course, there is no foolproof system but the internet tracking acts as a deterrent given that offenders are far more likely to be caught if they operate with an app based rideshare firm. In Ireland all Uber and mytaxi drivers are licensed by An Garda Síochána and, similarly, in Malaga and London all are licensed by the relevant authorities. Interestingly, Uber's Malaga base seems to employ a lot more lady drivers than in other cities, probably not far off a 60-40 gender balance.

Are they more likely to be 60 than 40?

Closer to 40, SB. I think it's a ploy on the part of the rideshare firms to displace older drivers hence mytaxi spends so much on driver recruitment.

Won a lump of money today on Uber Share Price .Just had a bet for a grand to win 25K Uber Shares drop below $30 by year end .$30 a share would mean they have collapsed and the rest of the shares are worthless .

Im in an Investment club our bet on Uber shares to collapse from 45 yoyo to 30 by the end of the year is looking good  they are at 33 today .But most of our other bets are losers .I think they will go up Uber will use some of their cash to buy them.If they go below 30 thats 33% loss in less than 6 months nobody will want the other two Billion shares that are unsold .Its a crazy business they Lose about 2.30 per job they are successfull in getting more drivers and more passengers so the more successfull they become the more they lose .

ECB hinted they were going to print more Euros .I wonder was there going to be a run on the £ so they shut down the StockMarket until they talked the banks into supporting the £ .
