Ya should start trying to do some DIY on yer taxi Belker.Lots of the skills involved in keeping a taxi roadworthy would help you in a restoration project.

All those restoration Tv programmes don't show the hundreds of hours involved for an amateur trying to bring one of them rustbuckets back to new.I'd probably hate the car by the time it was completed.

I think you'd buy one finished for a lot less than you'd pay someone else to restore the rusty one.

I know all about the Hundreds of hours needed fer restoration work MFH.

In my last job I restored many old buildings in to new offices and there was always a sense of pride about the on going job and a great sense of completion when the job was finished.

Hal would understand !

Is it an OCD thing?I'd have no problem leaving it unfinished if I got bored. That's probably why the rustbucket is sitting in a field in the first place.

Definitely a sense of pride when doing it.....old cars tend to be ongoing projects, they're never really finished,
Picked up a guy a couple of months back, had a lovely Merc 500 SEL in his garden, cost him 20k(sterling),cost him 15k(sterling) to get it to it's current condition(no paint job) and had just bought an original air con system for it..yet to be fitted...for 4k(euro)...I asked how much work he did himself....didn't hold a spanner....he said the car would be worth more from a documented restorer...I understand that but seems he bought the car like a business deal and is hoping to find someone who is willing to pay the sort of money he needs for it when he wants or needs to sell it.

@ ShallowHal and anybody else with an educated opinion, 2 questions.

Firstly, How much (ball park) to get the body work done and taking it that the inside is as bad as the outside, how much to get it in a presentable fashion both inside and out that it could be displayed (not running) at an 'Events' gig fer a Radio or whatever type of company ?

Second question, How much fer all of the above + Running ?

Not running about 10k, if you can get anyone to work on it.

Thanks DMG, but it is the Challenge of restoration that would excite me (if'n I won the Lotto).
I don't want to buy what someone else has restored.

So you want to restore it yourself Ken  ???
First off ya need a workshop..
Then you need an education in mechanics ,bodywork ,auto electrics,etcetera...
Then you need an enormous amount of money impossible to quantify from a photo or without specialist knowledge..
Then you need to retire because this I'll be a full time job for about 5-10  years whilst you learn what your doing....

Its junk ...plastic, glass, iron ,junk....juice guzzler ...nostalgia, romance or watever ya have for this heap of shite ..put it out of yur mind..
Why wud you bother...with a yoke that will be totally impractical, left hand drive, a fortune to run and insure......

For you to live your dream fixing this personally....your looking at couple 100 k plus your loss of earnings...plus bout ten yers.....

It wud break yur heart an your pocket....

I use to have a mop of hair on my bollocks.
not anymore.
my big hairy legs all went to jaysus as well.
the only place where the hair is getting progressively thicker is up my hole.
