Dempsey was on the Late Late years ago with his mammy and her belly of pups He came from a big family and said when he first ran for the council all his brothere and sisters and their families registered from his mothers house to vote as you can register from any address you like to vote as long as you only register once .Dempsey,Charlie,Flynn When stroking was seen as a vertue in Politicians they rubbed it in your face .Who remembers tha Low life self serving piece of Shit Tony Gregory put Charlie in power for a coat of paint and some new windows for the people who voted for him .Probably the Biggest waster ever to recieve a vote .Wanted the inner city regenerated so the fucked out the residents and built private appartments that locals cannot afford to buy or rent and created jobs that apart from car park attendent or cleaner locals cant get .Your modern politician is more discreet with his stroke .

To be fair to Noel, he told us the trade wouldn't't recover until the economy recovered. He wasn't wrong.

Alan Kelly, I guess.
I think you were kinda on your own with that one Stephen, if memory serves everyone else on the forum hated him.
In hindsight it was AK who got the ball rolling toward getting us somewhat close to legitimate and somewhere close to having a half decent respectable fleet of cars.
Title: Re: Blast from the past
Post by: dalymount on May 01, 2019, 07:21:27 am
Well your right Kelly introduced the door stickers with the intention of hopefully getting rid of double jobbers.I think he was sympathetic towards full timers, and he thought this was the way to go.unfortunately it didnt work double jobbers didnt give a fukk about the stickers, and they still donthave.he was the man who also said he wanted us all aligned
Title: Re: Blast from the past
Post by: Belker on May 01, 2019, 07:54:37 am
I wouldn't agree that the door stickers and the increased personal PSV licence cost (13 Euro up to 250 Euro) did not weed out a lot of part-timers, quite a lot of double-jobbing drivers who had 9 to 5's mid week and worked the Joe at weekends packed it in when the door stickers were introduced, the increased PSV and insurance was the final nail in the coffin fer a lot of them.

My mate Korky was the only fella I knew that was totally in favour of the 10 year rule when it was first introduced, over the years I have come around to his way of thinking as I see today's fleet of Taxies in Cork in much better shape than they were 10 years ago.

I'm not sold on the ten-year rule as it just means lazy drivers like me are forced to work extra hours to pay for newer motors. But if you were already doing lots of hours you won't see any difference.

At 2k(conservative estimate)a year for a newer motor translates to an extra month every day driver is on the road after expenses to keep a newer jammer. It's all great now while it's busy but it might not always be like this.In fact it won't.

Ten years back when I started out the fleet was in a horrendous condition, I know because I drove a lot of them as Rentals, how they passed NCT was a mystery, SGS was in it's infancy and reseal was unheard of. Fleet insurance fer anyone at all was the norm.
Today's fleet is a lot better, top line cars under 10 years old and the exemption 15 year rule cars subject to 6 monthly NCT and suitability.

Agree Ken, I'm subject to the 6 month confession, pain in the arse but as usual its "shit or get off the pot", 07 Avensis still going/in good nic,  will run it until it stops or 2022.

Post by: Belker on May 01, 2019, 10:32:39 am
I'm just a year ahead of ya STC's with me 08 Avensis, but I too plan to trade up in 2022.2
My Joe is worth Scrap today and in 2022 it will still be worth Scrap so I see no need to be bringing a car loan upon myself.

My Joe too is in good nick, I keep it clean and always well serviced, NCT passed, Reseal and Suitability next week, Fingers Crossed.

I don't know what you mean by bangers. If a cat passed the NCT it was road worthy.Older cars have more dents and scratches.More stringent suitability could have kept the fleet looking fresh.Plenty if old limos and buses going around twenty years old.

One thing I've learned about taxi drivers is most know sweet fuk all about cars. Mechanically the 2019 Corolla isn't much different than the 2004 Prius but yis all think yer living in the fukking future with a 27k loan to pay off.Bizzare stuff.

Also what is the 'Cat' reference supposed to relate to ?
Title: Re: Blast from the past

You said the fleet was in horrendous condition.I'm not in the habit of using flowery language when a banger would fit in nicely.I misspelt car but went to the shop and didn't bother correcting it.But you knew that already.I don't always correct me own posts.

Right ! So me saying the fleet was in a 'Horrendous condition' was me using 'Flowery language' ?

You could have said banger, shiteheap , dirtpile, donor car etc..horrendus condition go and fuk off...Mrs. Bucket would be proud of ya.

Anyway I believe you're wrong.Lads not cleaning their vehilces and NCT centers allowing dodgy cars pass out aren't the same as a fleet in shit condition.Just bad enforcement and drivers not giving a fuk.

I don't care it's not important Belker, only you do.Life goes on whether you get offended or not.Just because yer mate Korky thinks one thing doesn't make it true. The fleet is newer on paper but our overheads are bigger. So it's not coming without a cost to us.In order for us to drive newer reg motors we need to do more hours.

100 bucks a week will get you a fairly new car.
Do an extra job a day and it will pay for its self.
Also you will have a smaller tax liability.
