Title: Has the vehicle suitability test got very strict?
Post by: taxi1990 on June 01, 2019, 10:34:02 pm
I always thought the vehicle test was just a formality, I have never had a problem with passing it. Im hearing that everyone is failing it now in one particular testing centre, failing on small things like chips of paint missing on body work, small holes in seats, very slight damage to door stickers etc stuff that passed on the same cars the year before.

is this a country wide issue or is it just in one of the testing centres? sounds like a NTA money making exercise to me.

Yep, that's the way it is Taxi 1990.
The sign on the door at the Cork Suitability center reads as;
"Have your car cleaned to Valet standard" !

No Fookin' about anymore, they want the cabs in immaculate condition.
And personally I'm well pleased with it, clean up the fleet.

Valet standard is the same as immaculate Belker.All they're doing is enforcing the rules.Stone chips are fail for limos not taxis.The paint on my car isn't great but it passes no bother.

Looking at the stats last year, the number of taxis getting close to their 'end of life' was huge (can't remember the %).
Maybe there's a push on from the NTA for us all to upgrade to new(er) cars?

Most likely that won't pass this time DM but fer a cheap solution you can get a colour coded pen/brush on ebay fer a couple of Euro that should do the job. I bought one a few years back and it does a fine job of touching up minor scrapes, it is not perfect but ya would really want to be looking to see the repair work.

Do you have a problem with dribbling???
Ask your meter installer or mechanic for some stickers, put it over the missing paint BUT do it on both sides.

Or even a bit of vinyl wrapping the same colour of the car

Forget about previous years. It shouldn’t have passed like that over the years but it did. Expect it to fail if you think it will
