Some of these funerals are like dogs pissing marking out their teritory sending out a message we are still here .Think what he is doing is trying to ostracise these people in their own communities .Wonder will he extend this to Travellers who have some of the most lavish funerals probably paid for out of stolen money orwould a good donation to the church clean your slate .In the Far Far long ago you could buy favour from the pope nomatter what crimes you committed .I remember a funeral in Clondalkin of a lad that was shot priest called him out from the alter didnt go down well then that priest quit and fucked off with a local bird .

Do yis not thin k its time for the healing process to begin ,within the church as well as gangland ? There have been some unbelievable acts of wrong doing within the church over a long number of years,but I think the church has a genuine desire now to clean up its act.I think as a nation we should maybe give it a chance.I used to work for the Jesuits ,and during that time I seen some really genuine comitted,and passionate priests,so I could not say anything bad about them

No offense intended DM, but the church has lost the people’s trust. With everything that various religious orders done in this country for years and decades & how they just sent the offenders on to other parishes has destroyed their “we are right and correct”
Now that’s coming from the youngest member of this forum, I have no respect for religion AT ALL, and my kids have no interest in it.
Unfortunately, to get them into schools we had to christen them, then as they were in Catholic schools they made their communions and confirmations, but if i had the options of educate together back then I certainly would have sent them to these schools as opposed to a religious order school.
I don’t think they will ever get that trust back. It’s like every fad, it has its cycles and Catholicism is unfortunately in its decline cycle at the moment. Maybe in 2 or 3 generations time it might get a resurgence but I don’t think it’ll happen while they seem to take take take.
My personal opinion is that all religions should be banned across the world

Agree Vik, born and raised a catholic, same as the wife, same with the kids, none of us bother to practice any more .
The church did not do enuf when there was abuse flying about, did their best to sweep in under the carpet.
Certainly some good people left in the church but at the top table I'm not so sure
