I am now 100% convinced the suitability test is harder to pass then the NCT. Im also convinced that the blokes who inspect the cars, were hauled in by the NTA and told to tighten up on things. They seem to be gone very tough up thereto having spoken to a few drivers lately

Bring your heap in and see if it fails.I wouldn't believe anything a taxi driver says.In another thread there's a gobshite who bought a 40k brand new car but didn't bother checking if the windows would pass.
I've never failed a suitability test..ever.And I'm doing them every six months.

I don’t recall ever failing Suitability either.
When I bought my previous car I brought it up to Finglas(at the time) and asked the lads up there about a couple of things on the car and they set me straight.
Don’t be asking other taxi drivers, they feel hard done by because their hape o shite has passed for the last few years and now that hole in the bumper that was there for 3 years has failed Suitability, but that’s everyone else’s problem, not theirs

Well while I was up doing the NCT the other day,I DID slip around to ask advice from one of the inspectors.he had a look ,at my worn passenger seat cover, and the back bumper, and he assured me he would not pass ether.I got a quote of 350 to repair the bumper, and 350 for new seat covers it would make you wonder if its all worth while at all.I did actually fail about 11 years ago, becaause one of the letters on the fire extinguisher was wrong.but I have less fear of the NCT then I do of the SGS

Do you have covers on the car at the moment? Could you not just remove them for the Suitability?
-
Well to be honest they are not that easy to take off,and I would imagine its quite difficult to put them back on also.theywere done professionally at the time
-
But if you are going to get new covers on them, you may as well remove/cut off the old ones. I’m sure the original seats underneath will pass Suitability
-
Yeah but I dont want to cut them, because im going to put them back on when the test is over

I got a full set of seat covers on Ebay from Malasia fer 15 Euro, very easy to clip on and off, great job fer a suitability test !
Do you do Ebay DM ?

Back seat covers are easy as you can just lift the seat but front seat covers are a bitch to fit as you can't get under the seat to tie the cables. The last time I had my leatherette lower front passenger seat done I had to go to my panel-beater guy who had to remove the seat to tie the cables securely.

.........he had a look ,at my worn passenger seat cover,..............
I have a spare front seat cover if'n ya want it DM, I bought it as part of a full set fer 15 Euro, I would imagine it would not last pissing time if used in a Taxi, but it would do the job to pass suitability and the clips are easy enough to get on and off, text me your addy and I'll post it on to you if you want it, No Charge.

Ken your very good, and thanks for the offer.the car is just gone in to the garage this morning to have bumper repaired, and the guy says he will have to take the seats out,to take off the seats, and put them back on after the test.I do appreciate the offer, but ill wait and see how I get on thank you anyway
-
No worries, you know where I am if'n ya need them DM.
My back seat cover had a rip in it but me Chungwan fixed it all up fer me using flexible glue and following Utube instructions, but as hardy as it is, it still looks a tad Naff so I use the seat covers from Ebay fer suitability.
The cheap seat covers look good and are pretty easy to fit but I'm guessing that the First 'Big Burd' in your jammer and you will be hearing the seat cover clips going a Poppin !
