Title: Right of way
Post by: Murph2 on December 16, 2019, 03:45:46 pm
If I'm drivin down O'Connel St southbound in the very right lane and a cyclist to me left pulls in to close to me and clips me passenger wing mirror then proceeds to fall and go away in an ambulance I assume I've done no wrong and am not liable all this caught on a bus camera behind me?

If you were stationary I don't see how you could be liable. If you were moving you're supposed to allow cyclists 1 metre (1.5 metres if the speed limit exceeds 50 kilos per hour)... if overtaking the cyclist, not allowing the required distance is an offence. Is the bus driver an immigrant?

Sounds like the cyclist did a kamikaze run into Murph's taxi so, in theory, Murph is not to blame.  But this is Ireland so who knows?  30k, 40k for the cyclist?

Maybe get a solicitor to write to Dublin Bus (if you have the reg of the bus) asking/telling them not to delete the bus' video?  Plenty of CCTV on O'Connell St as well...

What I want to know is, why are cyclists always in such a hurry? why cant they just cycle at a leisurely pace?, you would think most of them were doing a time trial for the tour de france or something.

Cycling should be banned its dangerous .Think about it .Toxic Emissions being inhaled at a rapid rate due to the exertion of peddeling .You then put a boney structure covered in Pink or Brown Fat on a metal frame and ask them to compete with big blocks of steel driven by a powerfull engine for roadspace ,then there is metrosexual man who places his children in a Plastic container in front or dragged behind the bike .Cycling is just Natural Selection only done by the truly stupid or ridicilous they are to dumb to recognise how dangerous it is .

I think there's a better case for banning cars, at least from cities... but a better public transport system would b a prerequisite.

Did anyone in power ever do a cost/benefit analysis of introducing free public transport (excluding taxis of course)? A lot more buses and trains would be required, but it would solve traffic and pollution instantly.

Apparently it operates in 114 countries now.
