The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine says a small carnivorous mammal in Co Cork has been exposed to lyssavirus more commonly known as rabies.
The DAFM says a sable - a species of marten (small carnivorous mammal) - had been imported into Ireland as a pet.
On 7 January, officials were informed that the animal was displaying atypical behavior.
It was kept securely confined at a private premises in Co Cork and there was no evidence of contact with other animals.
However, the animal was euthanised as an investigation could not definitively rule out the rabies infection.
The Department of Agriculture has now established an 8km surveillance zone from the source identified in Cork.

Temporary measures have been put in place including a ban on gatherings of dogs, cats or ferrets, including hunting, sales and at fairs
Any dead mammals found in the area should be reported to the DAFM.
The temporary measures will remain in place in for a month subject to review.
Owners of dogs, cats and ferrets are also advised to monitor the health and behaviour of their animals and report any abnormal or unusual behaviour.

Did you cook it yourself?
I had a large sliced pan with a bowl of curry sauce when I got home last night... Still at least half a dozen men in the bar when I left and not a Chinese open, even Chicken Georges was closed. Damn immigrants... and half the fuckin town out protesting against racists earlier in the evening and that's how they repay us... close their fucking shops when we need feeding.

I was walking the mutt the other night and had a bit of a Larry David moment.Usually if I'm out with the dog I'll walk on the road to make space for parents walking young kids. They usually try to pet the dog but he's old and doesn't like it so I'm careful.
So I can see a family coming towards me I cross on to the road to allow them to pass easily then I then noticed they were a Chinese family.I couldn't help thinking they thought I was on the road in case I caught something off them.Ya kinda had to be there but it was awkward.

They probably thought you were a racist fuk.....probably are!!

Probably.I think the dog has more to be worried about...He might end up in the oven.
