Daly don't sweat it.I got a notification from Revenue to say my Tax clearance expired a couple of weeks ago.I think they no longer auto renew like they used to.All I had to do was click a button in my Revenue account and it renewed straight away.

Give your accountant a ring when you get a chance it's not a big deal.

Tax clearance probably out of date for some reason or other. Revenue or your accountant will tell you why... off the top of my head, did you file your LPT return for 2020?

Thanks Rc my property tax was late by two days so that's what triggered my tax clearance to be withheld.Makes sense now.

You'll have to get on to Revenue or you accountant to find out what's going on... if everything's up to date you've nothing to worry about anyway.

Tax clearance is dynamic these days i.e. once it's issued it isn't renewed every year as such, instead it's withdrawn if and when you fail to comply with any relevant requirement.

Bastards.I was pretty sure I had the other half down with revenue as the owner so I wouldn't get caught out.Somewhere along they got my name.I suppose it keeps me on my toes a little.

Pfff... as if a man on your income could afford a gaff up above in Dublin... do they think it's 1973 or wha?

If you drop your standards a good bit you can live in walking distance to the spire. It's a long walk but still 35/40 mins.It will be nice when it's finished!

The most I walk is up and down the stairs... but I'd gladly run 40 mins to get away from the Spire! Going up to Dublin for the darts next month, I think we'll try that all you can eat buffet place the erm put up a while back and then Wetherspoons (haven't tried the city one yet) before taking the Luas up to the Point... and hopefully catch the last train back to my local after the event!

It kinda suits me for socialising and work.I'm less app dependent because I have a choice of nearby ranks.Working the days means I'm biased towards town where most of the offices are.Ballbriggan was a holiday destination when I was a kid.I'm still a bit thrown when I see tailbacks at the Tesco Donabate roundabout.

The city is really for tourists nowadays. Most of the riff raff have been taken out.All the trouble is from the homeless. One proper harsh winter and they'll be all gone..

I do like to visit the city from time to time... although I hate getting jobs into it at the weekends... but that craic of standing up to drink a €7 pint isn't for me, alright for young lads on the pull or whatever... but then, I was dragged up in suburbia. As I've often said we'd have the best country in the world if we took the drugs (except alcohol and nicotine 'cos I use them) out of it.

I don't be in town all the time.Stoneybatter and Phibsborough have multiple pubs.So you can go on a mini pub crawl within walking distance from home. They're not up near 7 euro a pint just yet except for one or two hipster places that are closer to 6.A fiver should still get you a Guinness.

When I was up in Clonee every pub is a tenner taxi from the next pub so you get stuck in the same place whether you like it or not.

I've noticed a newish trend where the pubs wanna be shite restaurants so don't really make their money from the bar like before. They're preferring to charge higher prices for selling less quantity. You will spot them online because their Facebook pages are plastered with photographs of burgers and ice creams and 11 quid gin cocktails.Youngsters aren't falling around drunk like we used to but they look more like taxi drivers than taxi drivers thanks to the food.

Title: Re: Email

Tax refund on what?  I'm not RC but you pay tax on money earned?  What money will you have earned in 3 months?  Oh, the joys of being self-employed!

Maybe better to ask what can you claim off the State?  There's loads of stuff you can claim!  (Sometimes it seems like) everyone else is doing it so why not you?

Maybe Family Income Supplement (FIS), mortgage interest relief, disability benefit, fuel allowance, jobseekers benefit and/or PRSI relief.  Don't forget the Medical or GP card?  Maybe the Community Welfare Officer might give you an allowance for new clothes since you probably lost weight, maybe new air fresheners for your taxi, maybe a service since your oil might be dodgy after 3 months.  Maybe a new 65-inch TV with SKY subscription since all unemployed people have one...  Were you alive/in hospital at Xmas - you get double money for that!  Don't forget your wife/partner/children suffered as well and they *need* financial help too!

No need for sarcasm watty,I only made a brief enquiry of someone like rat who seems to have first knowledgee of the way our yax system works.as for all of the other benefits you mention,NONE of them are available due to the fact you have to be out for at least 1 year to qualify

Also im not talkingabout the current 3 months work.im talking about the whole of last year for which I made a tax payment in aug.it is a fact that if yoy looseyour empkoyment, and dont secure new employment, within a particular period of time, you can make application for a tax refund.im simply trying to ascertain if the same rule applys to the self employed

I wasn't being sarcastic (well, maybe a little bit).  Your "past 6 weeks/next 6 weeks" suggested 2020 to me?  Anyways, I'm sorry I upset you  oops

Maybe send RC a PM if you want him to answer your question without others interfering?

The illness benefit or invalidity pension is paid weekly at a rate of €198.50, with the possibility of increases for a dependent adult and dependent children. It’s provided to those who cannot work due to long term illness or disability and is not means tested but is taxable.

Don't sweat it too much DM, if'n you need help then indeed Rats is the best man to ask.
Best option is to PM him asking fer his personal mobile number, seeing as he raised several glasses fer your good health in Cork last Sunday, it's unlikely that he would refuse you any assistance.
Rats is a very acommodating man and the best thing about him is if'n he doesent know the answer to your question, then he will tell you so.

Question for rat.

If you paid preliminary tax for 2019 and the amount paid exceeds your actual liability for the year the excess will be refunded when you make your 2019 return - You should be able to file now... while it's unusual to file this early the facility exists. Given your current circumstances enter 0 for the 2020 preliminary.

If you made a loss for the year (2019) that can be written off against other income (e.g. pension taxed at source) for the year which could give rise to a further refund... as could tax credit for medical expenses paid during the year. Losses carried forward may only be offset against income from the same trade. One note of caution though, if you become exempt from PRSI consider a voluntary contribution to maintain access to long term illness benefit going forward.

Without going into loads of detail here, if your minded to retire from taxi driving, it often makes sense to stay off sick for a few years rather than winding up the business immediately as losses can be offset against other income and Class S PRSI contributions now qualify for long term illness benefit and state pension.
