Gardaí to investigate potential breaches of Covid regulations at Black Lives Matter demonstration in Dublin
Thousands of people took to the streets yesterday afternoon.
GARDAÍ HAVE SAID they will be investigating all the circumstances surrounding the Black Lives Matter demonstration which took place in Dublin at the weekend in relation to potential breaches of Covid-19 regulations.
Thousands of people took to the streets of the capital yesterday afternoon to voice their anger at the death of black man, George Floyd, who died after being pinned down by Minneapolis police officers in the US last week.
Gardaí said that while organisers had tried to enforce social distancing guidelines, this was not adhered to. Other regulations, including travelling more than 5km from a place of residence, may also have been breached, gardaí said.
A statement released to TheJournal.ie said that the organisers of the event had pro-actively engaged with gardaí during the demonstration and informed officers that the size of the event had far exceeded their expectations.
An Garda Síochána said it has no role “permitting or authorising protest marches or gatherings” and that “there is no permit/ authorisation required for such events”. But the statement said that it encourages organisations to get in touch with the police force to make sure any such event can pass off peacefully.
The force had not been consulted in relation to this demonstration, gardaí said.
Protesters marched from the Spire on O’Connell Street to the US Embassy in Ballsbridge, chanting: “Black lives matter” and “No justice, no peace.”
Gardaí said that organisers had made attempts to mark social distancing guidelines on O’Connell Street for their anticipated number of participants.
“Social distancing is a guideline, not a regulation”, the garda statement added.
As with other protests, officers said they engaged with those present and, in some cases, recorded the names and addresses of attendees. This information is then added to the garda investigation file which is sent to the DPP for consideration of criminal charges.
The statement added:
An Garda Síochána is investigating this matter and the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions will be sought in respect of any further actions to be taken.

I thought travelling 5k beyond yer gaff was a regulation.....or is that actually a guideline....most if not all of those present probably travelled 5k+ to get there and then travelled further to the US Embassy.

Huge 'bare knuckle brawl' in Dublin park involving 50 children made 'mothers with babies run in fear'
EXCLUSIVE: Weeks of violence among young people in Dublin has confirmed that the days of saying 'my child wouldn't do that' are over for good
ByDarragh Berry
NEWS
A huge "bare knuckle brawl" in a family-friendly Dublin park involving as many as 50 children made "mothers with their babies run in fear".
The frightening but sadly extremely common chaos that took place in Ringsend Park at lunchtime on Wednesday has become almost an everyday occurrence among youngsters in the capital.
Sinn Fein TD for Dublin Bay South Chris Andrews has warned those involved that "Ringsend will not be held to ransom by these large groups terrorising locals".
Dublin Live understands that the huge group met up for an organised fight with boys and girls of all ages involved.
Thankfully nobody was injured but it seems like only a matter of time before these planned scraps send somebody to hospital or even worse.
A witness told Dublin Live: "Ringsend Park was invaded by at least 50 children, boys and girls, who were bare knuckle fighting.

"Gardai arrived quickly and had to literally shout and scream at them to get them to stop and go away.
"It's unsettling to have our lovely park used in such a disturbing way.
"Watching mothers with their babies run in fear is something that we shouldn't have to tolerate or witness in the area."
TD Chris Andrews told Dublin Live that the shocking events in Ringsend overshadowed all the "positive in the community during the lockdown".
He said: "This period has been very difficult for everyone especially young people. And youngsters have been brilliant at getting involved in positive community projects and events.
"So yesterday in Ringsend Park was really disappointing and also frightening for those older people getting in some exercise during the advised hours in the park for those cocooning."
He added: "A number of residents have contacted me about this incident and all said how frightening it was for them and their parents and also for those there with their young children.
"They all felt terrified as there was fighting within the group.
"Parents need to take more responsibility as to where their children are and who they are with.
"The days of saying 'my child wouldn't do that' is over."
He said it was only a "miracle that no one was seriously injured" during this fight.
He continued: "The Gardai managed the situation very well and I have asked the Gardai to confiscate the bikes from anyone caught engaging in this sort of behaviour."
He concluded: "It's important to remember that the public parks are supposed to be for older people and those cocooning between 1:30pm and 3:30om, so many have an expectation that things will be safe.
"Unfortunately this particular group has no respect for older members of the community and that is unacceptable."
A Garda spokesman told Dublin Live: "We responded to reports of a gathering of youths yesterday in Ringsend Park at approximately 1:30pm."

Most of the protesters in the USA are white, and not tommy hilfigures at all
Not a racist as you regularly tell us, but using cockney rhyming slang to put across a word that people of colour find extremely offensive when uttered by white people. Why don't you have the balls to use the word you camouflage?
-
Because ratzer wont have it.does that answer your question ?
-
So you're not racist but choose to insult people of African ethnicity?
-
Ya sound like Father Ted,im NOT a racist
-
Ya sound like Father Ted,im NOT a racist
But by your own admission, the only thing preventing you using the insulting name "[]" when referring to people of African ethnicity is that RC won't allow it.
-
Ya sound like Father Ted,im NOT a racist
Now that is interesting, given that so many of your outpourings bear a striking resemblance to those of Fr Dougal. " Isn't that mad Ted"

Noise pollution has abated in lock-down, but the piercing alarm bells from America and Britain are ringing louder than ever. As other countries look on, we must interrogate how we can prevent falling as far as these two nations. How do we hold on to civility and decency, when it has evaporated elsewhere? What kind of environment gave rise to such toxicity? As Donald Trump and Boris Johnson ascended to their country’s highest offices, it was tempting to say “it’s over”, and in many ways, “it” is; truth, logic, accountability, normality.
The latest Dominic Cummings scandal shows, again, a British political establishment that is obnoxious, its corruption and lies hiding in plain sight. This matters, but the successive scandals - a subconscious tactic of discombobulation - hide much more embedded problems. The British media has a role to play in de-contextualising what is important. When all you have are scandals, nothing becomes scandalous, and the likes of Cummings and Johnson are able to deflect and ignore the concept of culpability.
Boris Johnson is the prime minister. What did they expect? Send in the clowns, and you wake up in a circus
Early on in the Trump era, people talked about the “red meat” being thrown to the White House press corp, as they scavenged over the latest gaffe. Across an ocean, British political media orbits scandal like a swarm, subsuming online hysteria, and meanwhile the hive is left unattended, so god knows what’s happening that’s actually real, that’s genuinely important. Soon, all you have is a succession of crises, and very little information. It’s not that having a cast of increasingly ridiculous and incompetent villains makes the Tories less capable of playing the media, in fact it makes them more equipped to do so. Remember: the lower they stoop, the lower the public’s bar for their behaviour also falls.
Just as Trump has framed contemporary American politics as reality television, in Britain, political coverage embodies the great British form of soap opera. Who’s in favour this week? Who screwed up? Who’s having an affair? Who’s having a fight? All the while, knowledge and comprehension of systems and processes is lost. There is little context in the episodic churn.
Of course the latest Cummings scandal is newsworthy, but the “shock” that surrounds is numbing. How can one be shocked by something Cummings does? He’s Dominic Cummings. Boris Johnson is the prime minister. What did they expect? Send in the clowns, and you wake up in a circus.

A crucial action for those looking on with horror as both the US and Britain fall apart, is to immediately look back at ourselves. The more we know ourselves, the less likely we are to betray ourselves, and each other. A lot of this is about empathy, but it is also about self-knowledge.
The reason America, for example, can’t turn itself around is because it refuses to acknowledge, never mind treat, its central malady. The toxicity at the heart of America is racism. It’s a country full of white people who have never confronted the fact that their so-called “freedoms”, and their country’s economic power, were built on slavery. The cruelty now being meted out to the entire population - although of course because America is so racist, people of colour will continue to be punished more harshly - can be summed up by Angela Davis’ famous line: “If they come for me in the morning, they will come for you in the night.”
Similarly, Britain has never meaningfully confronted its racism, which is colonialism, building an “empire” on the back of invading and pillaging and inflicting misery on whatever shores its brutal mercenaries dressed up as representatives of a made up crown landed upon. Colonialism is a boomerang: it eventually comes home. If they come for me in the morning, they will come for you in the night. The most obvious manifestation of colonialism in Britain is the acceptance and maintenance of class. The class system says: we are the kings and you are the peasants, and that will never change. How can a British person be aghast at someone blithely wielding authority without any consequences, when they live in a monarchy, and when one of their political chambers of power is stacked with “Lords” who assume such positions through hereditary birth right?
On Monday, David Lammy tweeted, “Remember when the UK was respected around the world? Now imagine how we must look today.” Lammy is a rare British politician who has consistently stood up against the trolling of society the Tories enjoy so much. But even he cannot escape British exceptionalism. When was the UK respected around the world, beyond superficial Anglophilia, which is - red flag - primarily an American pursuit? Britain’s “former glory”, which the Year Zero-ists of Brexit were so desperate to restart, is violence. This is not even in the past. The violence of British colonialism is embedded in the fabric of the world, in the horrors of illegal wars, in the consequences of bleeding nations of their resources, in the couldn’t-give-a-toss attitude towards Ireland. And now, Britain turns its truncheons on itself, another phase in the masochism of Tory brutality which has pummelled everyone from miners to refugees.
The process of rebuilding can only happen if there is a period of profound self-reflection, a real and honest acknowledgement of who you are, and why you are
If one does not confront the basic truths of one’s national identity, one will not be able to trace a path forward. Everything becomes a fiction, a narrative designed to block any kind of self-examination. There is lots of talk about gaslighting these days, but the foundational component of gaslighting begins far from the corridors of power. The British have been gaslighting each other and themselves for generations. This is the personal propaganda cycle that colonialism instigates. It creates a false hierarchy of superiority rooted in fictions about magical personal and national prowess.
Other countries need to pay attention to modern Britain. What has happened is instructive. Accepting plummeting standards in media, possessing a pathological deference to posh bullies, being ignorant of one’s history, accepting inequality as some kind of natural law, celebrating buffoons, and a blithe and arrogant exceptionalism is the real downfall, not Dominic Cummings’ lies.
The good news is, there is a way out. Throughout history, empires fall, societies implode. But the process of rebuilding can only happen if there is a period of profound self-reflection, a real and honest acknowledgement of who you are, and why you are. So stop the “shock” at the latest scandal, and start looking in the mirror.https://www.irishtimes.com/opinion/we-need-to-pay-very-close-attention-to-what-is-happening-in-britain-now-1.4264046 (https://www.irishtimes.com/opinion/we-need-to-pay-very-close-attention-to-what-is-happening-in-britain-now-1.4264046)

Its from todays Irish Times .It just says what I have always said about the Brits and their bastard Child the USA .Both economies were built on theft and slavery .Your Brits sold Opium and humans ,operated protection rackets in their colonies but both they and America still believe they are loved and respected .The Social unrest in both these countries is because they never come to terms with that history and their White Supremicist opinions that they used to exploit their Colonies still exists but it now exists on the Streets of Boston USA and Boston UK .You could add Brazil into that Mix as well a huge Black population who were imported as slaves originally .Its just the old adage of History repeating itself but just closer to home .Brexit was a result of Racism .Trump was a result of Racism Boris was a result of Racism .But Racism in not the issue its just the Brand its easier to recognize somebodies colour than their religion of sexual orientation .After they deal with the Blacks then their attention will turn to you .

A teenager suffered horrific head injuries in a vicious assault involving a gang of up to 30 youths in north Dublin.
The victim was set upon by the feral gang who attacked him with hammers in Baldoyle at around 5pm.
He was taken to Beaumont Hospital where it's understood his injuries include two skull fractures and internal bleeding.
