A DUBLIN taxi company is offering free lifts around the Irish capital to the elderly and vulnerable during the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
Since Monday, Abacus Cabs in Skerries has been offering fares free-of-charge for anyone affected by Ireland’s lockdown and in dire need of help.
They are also offering assistance to any companies in need of deliveries.
Writing on Facebook, the taxi company said: “We at Abacus want to help our community during these unprecedented times of COVID-19, we are offering free service to our elderly and vulnerable free of charge and encourage business to contact us for deliveries etc free of charge.”
“Let’s stay safe and well in our lovely community. We can do this together.
“If you don’t need this service, please don’t take advantage! This offer only applies to Skerries.”
Abacus Cabs is offering the free-of-charge service as part of a concerted effort to give something back to the local community after 25 years of business.
Anyone in need of this amazing service is encouraged to contact Declan from on 0874456888.
It’s the latest example of the way businesses and other considerate individuals across Ireland are rallying round those in need during these testing times.
Elsewhere, for example, a GoFundMe page has been set up, raising money to pay for hot meals for frontline hospital workers dealing with the coronavirus outbreak.
-
A fucking GoFundMe page for well paid hse workers, who are probably pulling a grand a week in overtime.I haven't earned anything in a week.Where can I contribute?
-
I think the cops are doing pharmacy deliveries around my area to the elderly.
Yer man probably has a pain in his bollox painting around the gaff and needs to get out.RIP.

What about the welfare of the drivers...cop the fuck on.

Fair play, looking after the community.

Fair play, looking after the community.
When are you joining Abacus Cabs?...not too far where you are...
-
Not for me... but fair play to those that are making the effort.
-
Someone must've promised you a big job in the coming Comintern, Rats....I've noticed you're totally down with the Extinction Rebellion/Green lingo.. lol
-
He is particularly in tune with his buddy in main street swords.never stops singing his praises
-
Dalyer, survival is more than just being Rambo...it's about letting on you're with the programme...
-
Anthony is no "buddy" of mine, DM. In fact I haven't spoken to him since I left C2K about 12 years ago. However, it was a good firm to work for and Anthony was always fair (and often generous) to deal with.
-
Id say the revenue would agree ,didnt he hand over nearly half a mill a few years back ?
-
Tripled their take from the entire taxi trade for 3 decades, fair play.
-
Yeah I suppose if you think its ok not to honour your tax liability
-
There will be lots of us defaulting on our tax liability this year.Mostly freenow ambassadors.Could be good for those who can remain.
-
Defaulting on our what?
-
Certainly there will be people defaulting on their tax liability, but these are not normal times.the situation I brought up was carried out in normal times
-
Didn't Jim Waldron and TDFC tell Revenue we were all robbing the State blind?
-
Good RC maybe you can answer this....do the revenue have a mechanism for the deferral of tax liable to the following year?
What I'm saying is if lads like Vandriver(just an example) owe 5k for 2019.How can they not pay revenue and get tax clearance to continue working?
I suspect most lads aren't putting the money away while they're earning it because we're a mess.So many won't have the cash towards the end of the year if the corona thing goes on and on.
-
Dollyer dont worry about tax liabilities Nobody earning more that chump change ever does .Google,Facebook and the rest of our big tax contributors will join the Banks in offsetting losses this year and future investment in regaining market share for the next few years .
-
Yes. They've always facilitated payment plans in line with what you can reasonably afford.
-
Nice one.Some good news then.
-
On that note... it's DIY time, yay!
-
Why should there be any deferral ? If your not earning you dont pay
-

It's the drivers who do it on a voluntary basis ....its expected of freenow and radios companys not to give 2 fuks especially sitting in the safety of ther office .....but for a driver to volunteer to work for nothing and put himself at risk and his family and potentially spread this killer virus ....just confirms wat I already knew.....there an awful lot of thick cnuts driving taxis out there
-
Only last week Kearns done it in a newspaper interview.he played the PR card claiming his drivers wanted to be superman ,batman etc
-
Im thinking the Kill rate in Ireland so FAR is fairly low .Im wondering with all the vaxcines we got over our lifetimes .Measles Mumps Rubella .Polio .BCG .Swine flu some of us might of gotten WHO vaxines if we traveled to exotic places .Do we have a slight immunity .

I don't think Revenue will want us to cough up!

How many taxi jobs have Kearns, Ebbs, O'Callaghan, Kelly done themselves to prove to other drivers it's safe to do so?

Thanks for your concern about whether I can pay my tax this year!
Truth is,I've already paid 3k in preliminary tax and have 2 in my tax savings account,so 2019 is fairly near to being boxed off.For 2020,I can't see a huge liability if I'm out for 6-8 weeks.

Seriously get an accountant You are renting paying huge insurance and thousands in comission and you have an actual tax liability .Are you paying an accountant or self assessing .
-
I probably won't pay my own if it can be deferred.Depends on how quickly things return to normal.
We've never had to have tax clearance 12 months a year before or had so much card/account work so it's a valid concern for many lads.

Sweet Divine Jaysus...wanna buy a hut?

2019 return is submitted this year... not everyone pays preliminary tax.
-
I dont
-
And from next year no PRSI either if I live that long
-
You will, Comrade Dalymount. The Govt has said "make it so".
-
So you have to pay in full when you file for 2019 later this year. Full-time men working for Free Now could owe very significant sums, that's what MfH was getting at.
-
Rat I wont be paying PRSI from next year.once you hit 66 years of age, your exempt.I thought you would have known that
-
I did know that but we're talking about 2019. Next year is 2021... hope that helps!
-
Thats not what I said.I simply said from next year I wont be paying PRSI I did not mention any particular year
-
But what I said is:
So you have to pay in full when you file for 2019 later this year. Full-time men working for Free Now could owe very significant sums, that's what MfH was getting at.#
To which you responded:

I was clearly talking about liabilities for 2019 not 2021.
-
FFS, the chances of you making it to 2021 are somewhat remote with your Misses out and about bringing all sorts of viruses back with your tea!
-
Sure im out meself.id go mad if I didnt get me daily walk in.still a bit to go,but im getting there
-
Good man...keep it going
