SPSV Driver Entry Test Cancellations (https://www.nationaltransport.ie/taxi-and-bus-licensing/spsv-driver-entry-tests/) (Thurs, 26 Mar 2020)
In an effort to contain the spread of the COVID-19 virus, NTA has taken measures to minimise risk to staff and to candidates wishing to sit the SPSV Driver Entry Test. As a result, a number of SPSV Driver Entry Tests have been cancelled.
Any candidates affected will receive a cancellation notification.
And a refund rofl

Bit fukin late there is far far to many taxis as it is.no doubt Kearns Kelly ,Ebbs, were whinging in the ears of the NTA
-
They'll probably be given licences without sitting the test... like most of us were.
-
Speak for yourself rat
-
I speak for the majority hence I said "most".
-
I must be slipping up.I didnt know most drivers got their licences without sitting a test, you learn somethiing new every day
-

How/when did that happen ?
-
Before that mean and nasty lady, Kathleen Doyle took over the entry test from An Garda Siochana. Technically there was a test but it was impossible to fail. When I sat it the Garda supervising willingly gave out any answer requested by any candidate.
-
Its still test, you said they got their licences without sitting a test

Yes you are 100% you couldn't fail .I fell asleep during my Garda test, 25 years ago and the Copper banged the desk to wake me as i was doing nights I drifted off .They used to use Schools on a saturday for the test.
-
Test in name only, DM. The hardest part of the process was proving that one is unemployable.
-
Regardless it was criteria which was needed to obtain a licence
-
Being able to find the test centre was the only requirement. They should give new entrants licences on that basis.
-
So tou dont think unlike me,that there are far to many taxis already ?
-
I think we should all have to pass the current entry test at every licence renewal... it makes no sense that new entrants are required to know more than their vastly more experienced colleagues/competitors.
However, quantitative regulation is a completely different matter. It should not be addressed through back door restrictions. It doesn't really matter what you and I think. Free Now believe we need more drivers and they sit on TAC. ITDF and NPHTA have complained that over 20,000 drivers left the trade to pursue more lucrative vocations with the latter calling for lower entry costs. They also sit on TAC.

The first part of tour post I would not disagree with, but the second part id be surprised if that was true.I agree F/N and all dispatchers want to flood the industry with drivers, sure Ebbs,Kearns and kelly regularly have their gofors, standing outside the test centres handing out their shite ,and advertising how much a taxi driver makes.however the part id be surprised at is,where you claim the 3 unions you mentioned are encouraging the NTA to allow more new entrants id like if you could show me that
-
I'm sure I posted links for you before, leave it with me and I might find them again.
-
I look forward to that

In the age of google maps ,sat nav etc ....is a " how do you get from A to B test obsolete?
-
I know the suspense is killing you, DM... and I've fuck all to do anyway... but please read and remember this time:

Joe Herron, president of the Irish Taxi Drivers' Federation, said there has been a huge number of drivers leaving the industry
Mr Herron said there has been countless drivers leaving the industry
"Other jobs have become available now and loads of people have left the business, leaving wages starting to return to a more favourable level," he said
https://www.psv.ie/taxi-magazine-february-march-2018-edition/ (https://www.psv.ie/taxi-magazine-february-march-2018-edition/) - page 33 Article entitled "400 Less Cabbies in the last year"
“Many people from trades in the construction sector became taxi drivers when building work dried up and they are now going back to their old jobs as they are providing more regular work and pensions” Mr. Waldron said.
He claimed that the cost for new entrants to the industry was prohibitive as first-time applicants had to buy wheelchair accessible taxis which are considerably more expensive than standard vehicles

I have to hand it to you rat, nobody can argue with that.the wonder of it is,though, why these so called reps were not challenged by their membership for making such comments.I know the NTA were not necessarily waiting for these reps to comment as they had their statistics, but judging by the comments made by these reps,in can only be concluded they were effectively saying to the NTA we will oppose new entry,in fact we support it
-
The above should have read we will NOT oppose new entry
