Unfortunately he paid the ultimate price for his stupidity and greed.
Let this be a lesson to all the other money hungry fukkwits that think that they are an essential service and that the country cant do without them.
What a horrible thing to say, you really are a low life!
Not that it matters but I believe Mick the moan acquired Covid19 in hospital while being treated for other ailments?
Also: it seems we are an essential service

Fair play to those brave enough to ferry other essential workers to and from their workplaces, unfortunately like others here I've bottled it and have taken the "queens shilling"
-
Oneandonly im afraidi could not agree with you on complementing those drivers who are out there still working .I do believe it is not driven by any sense of dedication to health workers,I believe it is driven purely by greed, and I have no doubt most if not all of them are also claiming the 350 a week payment as well
-

Since when does one become a low life for speaking his mind?
If you want all do gooder responses fuck off over to fuckbook with the rest of the easily offended brigade
You mean queers shilling right?

Think you might reconsider that comment Anto .In his case he contracted the illness in Hospital .I do agree with your second sentence .
As I said reflect on the first sentence !
-
Tony im not saying the sentiments you expressed are right,or wrong, but I totally respect your right to express them.this most certainly does not make you a low life.the problem with Ireland these days is,there is a certain element within society who want to do away with freedom of speech.in fact there was a protest outside the dail a few months ago to protect the right to free speech, while others sought to have it removed
-
I dont want be disrespectful, but at 78 years of age in seems a bit ridiculous to be taking such chances
Seriously!
How much do you think they are making in the current conditions?
Given that the Government are offering €70 a day they'd need to make a ton to break even after fuel and dispatcher costs, best case scenario they're making €20 a day more than you are while you are sitting on your arse.
I reckon anyone out working at the moment believes they are providing an essential service and I take my hat off to them.
And anyone calling them greedy or stupid is indeed a low life, sometimes your thoughts are best left kept to oneself. the children of that gentleman may read that shit and deserve better
-
The only one ..A lot of taxi drivers still working are drivers with Student visas who do not qualify for welfare payments as they are not full time workers as their visa only allows them work 20 hours per week .A lot of them also borrowed to buy Wheelies and Prius cars .
-

Lowlife gobshites speaking their mind on social media (this is social media) has caused countless people many of whom were kids to take their own lives. moderation is required, both personal and administrative
-
I believe these drivers are also claiming the 350'unlike you I believe it is driven by pure greed.and how dare you call me a low life for expressing my views.I have expressed my sorrow at this mans death, and I most certainly wont be lectured to by the likes of you.I am as much entitled to say what I feel as you are
-
I reckon you should heed your own advice
"sometimes your thoughts are best left kept to oneself."
"I reckon anyone out working at the moment believes they are providing an essential service and I take my hat off to them.
And anyone calling them greedy or stupid is indeed a low life. "
I totally disagree, to work during a pandemic is both irresponsible and down right stupid and just greedy. We are not an emergency service or an essential service we are taxis, if the proper front line workers have to get to work then use the army god knows they do fuckall eles. Its simply stay at home or die looking for a fiver its up to you.

So you know better than the people advising the government as to what is an essential service?
You really have a big opinion of yourself don't you?
-
How in the name of Christ do you propose to stop this pandemic when you have greedy, stupid taxi drivers out there ferrying people back, and forth in spite of the guidelines laid down by the HSE to self distance.they are working in a confined area, spreading the disease,in complete opposition to what they were told to do,and while everyone else is making a concerted effort to comply, these gobshites are out there prolonging it for to satisfy their greed
-
I'll bet my gaff and every euro in my account that none of the taxi ranks around the city hospitals have queues of taxis on standby ready to bring essential medical workers home after a 36-hour shift.
Lads who wanna work will be using this as an excuse to bank some money before we're all allowed back on the road.I understand why they're doing it but hope they don't have an underlying condition that they never knew about.
Don't forget there's probably a few spoofers on here who haven't left their gaff in weeks but wanna wind everyone up.Taxi drivers are funny like that.
-
As far as I remember a few weeks a couple of weeks ago ,one poster on here remarked that he hopes this goes on for a few months, that he is making a packet out there because of the lack of taxis.also in an earlier post you were going on about fuel costs and dispatcher costs.since when did it become mandatory to have dispatcher costs ?
-
As said many moons ago by a wise old crankie fuck in the game
"Taxi drivers narsholes mostly"

What the fuck are you on about?
It doesn't take a genius to figure out that you cant self isolate or stay 3 meters apart in a saloon car, second thoughts why dont you go to work and catch the pox, its a good way to reduce the fleet of deadwood and fools

I wouldn't say there's too many hailing taxis or walking to the ranks, I worked last week and it was all shopworkers, bringing people back and forth to post office for payments, people with their shopping, and very very little of it barely made more than the €203 on offer, I'd be applying to Musgrages or Supervalue if I wanted a steady guaranteed income, if taxi drivers are making money they're probably scamming the €350 while working, i read some on here believe that's legal ... it isn't

Calling Tony a lowlife is outrageous IMO theoneandonly.
However, what Tony posted is very insensitive, and that post should be removed before the children of the deceased read it.

He'll get over it, people need to be mindful of what they write on social media and the effect it might have on others, what he said was fairly low IMO

If drivers believe themselves to be an essential service.then so be it.....and maybe instead of the NTA advising drivers to download posters for passengers to take note of drivers names/ID....maybe those drivers might consider for the safety of their families to ask the passengers name and PPS numbers....as the NTA haven't seemed to advise that to operators....for contact tracing of course!!
-
Im considering the only ones opinion and the Rodents .The idea is to slow down the infection not wipe it out .Only makes a decent point essential workers do need transport and if you feel inclined to cover that work thats a business decision dont forget we are business men involved in the licenced transport business .Sooner or later we will all have to decide when or if to returm Im following Occis advice and not working .I dont know if it was Occi or Merc said they will return when the Pubs reopen I consider that a fair barometer of when I will return .
-
RIP Mick. I didn't know him but I believe he was a true gent.
Did you read the article, erm?
-Quote-
Mick's daughter Emily had earlier posted about the Tallaght family's harrowing experience, and it has since been shared thousands of times on social media.
She said: "So still think that coronavirus won’t get you? Here’s the real story, my dad was due to leave hospital on Monday after having surgery (107 days).
"Unfortunately he started to cough and they swabbed him and he tested positive."

Fares should be restricted to bookings with licensed dispatch firms... simples!
-
I see what you're doin there RC!!
-
Suggesting a reliable method of contact tracing.
-
Rideshare should be an option now....all swapping names and phone numbers!!
-
It'd be a good time for Free Now to lobby... an unelected Minister and essential workers paying through the nose to keep the country afloat...
-
I also see what he is trying to,WIND ME FUKIN UP

Oneandonly im afraidi could not agree with you on complementing those drivers who are out there still working .I do believe it is not driven by any sense of dedication to health workers,I believe it is driven purely by greed, and I have no doubt most if not all of them are also claiming the 350 a week payment as well
Let me assure you, I was talking to a Garda in Dunnes in cornelscourt and i ask him about taxis claiming and working and he said its being noted at checkpoints for the NTA and obviously passed to social protection. They will be dealt with in a hard way.
-

Good, revenue and social are doing the rounds too at ranks in Dublin so anybody caught working and claiming will be done, i reckon they should have their licence revoked for a 6 month period too the dirty disease spreading poxes

I agree 100% Tony ,The money they taking could be used to buy more Ventilators.Im sure the media would go to town on them to.Revoke licence permanently would be best option in wartime settings.
-
Problem with this is,although the vast majority of us adhere to the recommendations from the HSE,when it becomes public knowledge that these drivers were caught doing this,we will all be tared with the one brush in the eyes of the public.I hope the guards ARE taking notes and passing it on to revenue, but I ALSO hope they are noting the fact that most drivers are NOT using their roof sign, and are therefore not working
-
Link broken
Checked some of the more vociferous stay the fuck home campaigners on here using the shop em to the NTA app, and all of them were happily linked to their Taxis
-
Deepest condolences to Smartt and McGlynn families.
-
What's the story about the Taxi driver check App and allegations of working and claiming?
First, the roof sign needs to be on the vehicle, secondly, simply print a shift report for the requisite period.
-
Or downgrade your insurance

Gardai know in all jobs ,there are rogues including in the Garda Siochana,Maybe a little more rogues in our job ,but lots of genuine drivers out there.

Excuse me!!!! "vociferous stay the fuck home campaigners" rofl rofl rofl. And whats your opinion Professor??.Go work and spread the virus?.I'd love to be out working and making money in which I badly need, but theres not a distance between me and the passenger. And as far as drivers working and claiming an Emergency payment its DISCUSTING fullstop.Oh and Ive changed my insurance to social and domestic and put plate in the shed ,signed a declaration to insurance company. So im now saving nearly €50 on not having public liability plus €350 from the Government in which im grateful for.

Why are they out and about if they're not working? What part of stay home do they not get? The lads that are working are providing an essential service to other's with essential business and therefore a good reason to be travelling.

Well I havent, because id say its more trouble then its worth
Im with Aviva no trouble at all ,Call they email a declaration sign it ,take photo send back to them. You are now on social and domestic use only.Do not operate as a TAXI.Then when you want taxi insurance ring and it reinstated immediately.Discounts if you pay monthly and cheque refund if paid in full .very easy...oh same disc and cert does you for social and domestic
-
Well I didnt do it even for the ,3 months I was off the road
-
Sure they'll add it on to the next quote anyway, if you survive the virus.
-
I heard AXA were offering similar but then rowed back,i'll ring tomorrow and see...paying €203 per month for the next 8 months....next installment goes out on April 1st so no stopping that at this late stage.
-
