I got nothing, no email, no phone call.
I rang them this morning @ 9am on the 01 and 1890 numbers but both came up as engaged.
I went through the online process putting in the exact same details that I put in the postal application on 20th March.
I was just about to give up but rang them one last time and I am currently on hold.
Did anyone get paid the 350 ?
-
Yeah.
-
Yeah
-
No, a couple of us who did a postal application on Thurs, 19th, got nothing.

I just got off the dog with the chungwan, she tells me my postal application was received on Tuesday 24th but was not processed before Thursday 26th hence why I got Nada this Tuesday 31st, but I will get it next Tuesday as I am in the system as of now, and she added that just maybe I might be paid this Friday.
-
I enquired about back payments and she reassured me that when ever I cancel the benefit payment then I will be paid up after in additional weeks, as in if I go back to work in 6 weeks time and cancel the benefit then I will still get paid on week 7 and 8.

Nope, I hung up the keys a good few days ago and when I applied online again this morning I ticked the box that said Not working at all.
-

Give them a ring (01 2481298) just to be sure that you are in the system and have your PPS at hand, maybe also your BIC and IBAN but I didn't need my bank details as I was 'In the System'.
The holding time on the phone is about 20-30 minutes.

Applied last Friday online, in my Bank yesterday. very efficient

I'll give it a few days ken, I only reapplied yesterday. On my gov.ie account it says my application is waiting to be reviewed by some civil service officer or something. Cheers anyways ken

My first application came back two weeks later in the post yesterday with a banking issue. They made no attempt to phone me or email.I could have sorted it in seconds.
The online application went through straight away.I think they done me out of a week like many others.

you'll get 12 payments if you stay out for 12 weeks
-
Yeah I hope so.I'll probably do the Job seekers application anyway just in case there's not much happening after the 12 weeks.

The chances are that they will want most of it back when/if they check his PRSI record.

The government don't think so!
How to qualify
You can apply for the new COVID-19 Pandemic Unemployment Payment if you:
are aged between 18 and 66 years old and
live in the Republic of Ireland and
have lost your job due to the COVID-19 pandemic or
if you are self-employed and have ceased trading due to the pandemic
If you are an employee and have:
lost your job
been temporarily laid off
asked to stay at home
not getting any money from an employer
The payment also applies to:
non EU/EEA workers who have lost employment due to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic
students (and non-EU/EEA students) who have lost employment due to the COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic
part-time workers
-
Yeah I hope so.I'll probably do the Job seekers application anyway just in case there's not much happening after the 12 weeks.
You'll be the first Taxi driver I know that gets jobseekers allowance
-
Well maybe not.if your claiming for a dependent adult you must fill out the jobseekers form.I doubt you would get it,but thats the form you must fill out
-

rofl rofl rofl rofl rofl
-
Do you mean I can't technically get it?
I haven't given it too much thought.I can't really survive on a likely 50 a week after a means test long term.I was kinda thinking of trying something else rather than reinvest but this corona thing is putting everything on the back burner.
15% commission might seem like a bargain if we go back to doing feck all.
-
I got mine, and Bernie got hers its great... FairPlay to Governmen,t as badly needed 700 brick ok between 2 people food and beverages.Ill also apply jobseekers if that Virus still in town.Any word lads on more taxidrivers catching the Virus ,Ive been busy in shed and trimming bushes.
-

Law changed if you not working ,Self-employed you will get it .Taxi be along time coming back after this messing. Those Breadvans and Prius taxis hoover up all the little work that will be there. Then that FREENOW will offer NTA hundreds new VW caddy Breadvans to modernise the fleet as we be to broke to upgrade 100% will happen.Dublin will be breadvan land with FREENOW branding everywhere and commission will rise to 25% same as Barcelona
-
Still nothing from the NTA about stopping their recruitment drive. If ever there was a reason to bring the the pass rate back to 80% for the geography exam it is now.
-

Covid19 payment that your getting now is for the self employed, unemployment benefit (job seekers allowance) isn't
-

NTA hiding in a Bunker,Taxis are the least of there worries.Taxis are a money spinner for bringing in cash for cycle lanes and main transport upgrades. They never did not one positive thing for taxis only charge us more and lash stickers everywhere on the direction of the so called taxi unions
-

loads of newly unemployed needing a job is a reason for stopping people becoming self employed?
Hardly! the more taxi drivers there are the better for everyone

Covid19 payment that your getting now is for the self employed, unemployment benefit (job seekers allowance) isn't
I understand that but jobseekers will apply if taxi has no income, in which is 100% true. You can still claim jobseekers if you not working if you not linked to a vehicle
-
^^^^No not quite Theoneandonly, but the ten year rule is putting significant pressure on drivers to stay in the industry.I've a few bob I can borrow but family men with mortgages will be facing a new world of pain if they're only grossing a tenner an hour but needing 200/250 per week to break even.
They need to control the influx of new lads otherwise it could be a repeat of the bad years.Maybe it will fix itself.
-
They certainly do need to get a handle on new entrants.just imagine the NTA are/were actively recruiting a further 1600 new drivers .hows that for not giving a bollox about men trying to make a living.I cant understand why theour so called reps are not up in arms, but as rat maintains most of them encourage this recruitment, indeed one in particular advised theNTA that 20,000 drivers had left the industry, and only stopped short of saying they needed to replenish the workforce
-
We'll lose some drivers to the virus... we've already lost two, RIP... one of whom hadn't driven for quite some time.
-
If you are applying for COVID-19 Pandemic Unemployment Payment, you will also need to apply for Jobseekers. Start your application now.
do we have to do this?
-
Benefit or Allowance?
-
Benefit or Allowance?
not sure, that is the exact line from mygovid site. I didnt fill it out, just sent off the emergency payment form.
-
Haven't applied yet myself, I'm gonna leave it for a couple of months, so I don't know if you have to specify which you are applying for or if Welfare just tell you which you can have, if any.
-

No you dont have to apply for job seekers. I was talking to a woman on the phone yesterday and she said just ignore that bit.
-
Didn't know what to do with mine so I just filled it in and sent it back. Hopefully won't be looking for anything after the 12 weeks anyway.

The payment might be gone in a couple of months. ;D
why are people who got say 200 euro a week wages getting 350 now?

I've always been helpful ken. I think I even remember helping you out on more than one occasion.
-
Well I cant complain about being helped ether albeit in different circumstances.when I was in hospital,a member of this forum PMD me a few times.on one occasion he offered me the loan of a lap top while I was in there, and on occasion he offered to come over to my house when I got out to take me out for drives and a bit of fresh air.I was a very thoughtful gesture, and very much appreciated.the fact that this member PMD me rather then put it up here may indicate he did not want to be acknowledged, but I think its entirely appropriate that I take this opportunity to thank him properly now that we are talking about help from other forum members.that member was John M

You did indeed on a few gardening issues and it was much appreciated.
Just fer once it's good to see everyone not squabbling on here but instead coming together to offer advice and support to each other.

No surprise there, the man is kinda out on his own when it comes to offering help and has done the same fer me on a few occasions.
I did get the pleasure of his company once at a Cork piss-up, the man is a walking pantomine, belly the size of the Galtee montaims and a heart of Gold the size of Everest.
-
Cant argue with that

Oh yea, forgot about that. The sun flowers wasn't it. Around the same time when someone was telling everyone to move their tubs around the garden.
-
We better stop praising him Ken,its not good for his image

My best fond memory of John M which I have told to many customers in my cab over the years;
It was the First Irish inter-city Licensed Taxi driver Chrimbo bash in Cork in Jan 2018.
It was just Myself, Korky, Rats and John M.
We met up at the Briar Rose pub in Douglas at about 2.30pm which is a kinda upper class pub.
We had a few scoops, exchanged Chrimbo gifts, pulled a few Chrimbo crackers and the Craic was great.
Korky did not like the atmosphere of the what he called a 'Prosecco pub' and everyone agreed,
so we called a Taxi and moved on in to town.
My suggestion was to go to Coughlan's on Douglas street which is kinda an old mans pub, or a more mature clientele.
We arrive there in the Taxi at about 4pm on a Tuesday and the bar is empty, John M straddles in First, sniffs the air and declares out loud;
"Ah now, dis is a grand Bozzer dis, ya can smell da Tawlet n all !"
-
We better stop praising him Ken,its not good for his image
When you walk in to a pub most usual men ask fer their order of pints or whatever.
Not so fer John M, his First question to any Cork bar maid was; "Are ye married ?",
which of course starts the Craic going straight away.
-
I suppose for a cork bar maid the safest the thing to say would be yes in answer to the question posed by our John

Back on track more than twice as many people applied for the dizzeeze money and loads more for the give us wages while we dont work money .If this goes on more than 12 weeks will we be able to pay as there is not much tax money coming in .The Finnish Social welfare system is crashing they cant afford to pay .Can we ?
-

In Finland employees pay into an unemployment fund, that fund is running out and is calling on the Finnish government to bail them out, our government pay us directly, slight difference, I don't think there is an issue getting the money, paying it back long term will be the issue.
I heard recently that Britain has only just finished paying America and Canada back for monies owed from WW2, I guess over time the figures don't seem as large, a bit like the Mortgage, initially it seemed like a fortune then your borrowing more for a car over 3 years
-
I read a piece on Car purchase .It said that some manufacturers will be offering interest free over 7 years to get rid of stock .
-
Was just speaking to a bloke in the dept.he told me jobseekers payments will not be dealt with for 9 weeks.they were instructed to prioritize covid payments, but jobseekers will be back dated in case any of you are interested
-
just two questions, I know I read something from the NTA saying to break the link if you are taking the emergency payment, is that important?
also i have my insurance paid up until end of june, with liberty. I will have the use of another car if i like or id be ok without 1 really for a couple of months. do ye know if liberty can pause my insurance?
-

I think you need to ring Liberty and see what their arrangements are,as an AXA customer i rang and like other drivers with AXA they seem to be doing something to ease the burden.
-
They can't charge you for a service that you aren't using.Insurance policies get cancelled or reduced all the time.I'd completely cancel my entire policy with a Axa but I need it occasionally.
If I get to my renewal date in August and there's no work I'll just drive the wife's Range rover.Stop laughing Hal..
-
I'm trying to worknout if Range Rover is an anagram for the hairdresser car!! lol
-
Shurup you!.I don't do anagrams.Too much work.I pumped up the wheels on me mountain bike today.Don't have to have a car at all really.
-
I actually saw me bike for the first time today in about 2 or three years, cleaned out the shed best i could, have access to all my tools,saw,compressor...and paint, gonna be a busy few
days weeks ahead!!
-
A lot of talk says this could go until September.
-
Just gonna have to wait and see....i won't lie but i'm actually enjoying my time pottering around getting stuff done around the house that i've neglected for too long.
-
+1 ,with a few bob for free coming in .Thinking like mfh ,will i bother going back ,when this is over after 20 years service .!!!

To be honest, I'd go back to work tomorrow. I've ran out of stuff to do in the house and my head is wracked. I'd much rather be working for the 350 rather than sitting around the house. It's really not good for my mental health. Can't see meself lasting another 2 weeks. I'll have to get back working. Coronavirus or not... And I would definitely sign off the scratcher.
-
Driving a taxi is a piece of piss compared to the list of jobs my missus has lined up for me.
I've already weeded the front garden, weeded the back garden, moved trees, installed a paved area and moved the rabbit hutch onto it,fixed two curtain rails, cleaned and painted the porch and reseeded the lawn.
All of these were huge jobs due to 2 years of utter neglect(new job as a taxi driver!!)
Now she wants the kitchen painted, the bathroom painted and whatever else takes her fancy while she's at home working, and silently judging my half-hearted enthusiasm.

Dont know where you are based Billy but do not give up the payment .If your head is melted try see if there any local community based groups looking for volunteers dont matter what your doing you seem to be struggling with isolation rather than financial issues .Try get out and waffle with others .Take care of your head come on hear and blow off steam call a cunt a cunt .Its all part of how some of us cope
-
Is there a mend shed in your area?
-
Hang in there Billy, we're all in the same boat. I'm bored out of me trolley too, feels like being locked up but don't go risking your life by driving your taxi till all this is over, which it will be sometime. Hopefully this will all seem like a bad dream soon.

I take it your youngish Van .The more reflective Gents are on the sofa watching TV doing DIY will only lead to conflict .About 30 years ago I fitted Aluminium windows mate was to deliver them by 9AM so I was up at 7 removed old ones but the new ones didnt arrive till after noon I finished fitting them plastered and finished about midnight .My hen then casually says all we need now is central heating ,not a well done or anything I had to call a Neighbour to give me a lift in with the Large front window and my Hen says Billy was very good helping you he was there for all of 15 minutes ..Two months later I done the Central Heating off the Back boiler .I got at the boiler from the hall press that contains all the useless crap but she complained that she couldnt fit it all back in because of the pump .That day I handed in my cards I dont do DIY anymore .She is quite good at painting and decorating A few years ago she went to her mothers for a week I fitted a new Kitchen and changed the Doors told her I paid somebody to do it she was so happy with yer mans work .There is a moral there somewhere Van .

If you want something to keep you busy you could do what I do, and study for a new area test.
I have two counties but have been working on my third the last couple of years, just make a list of places of interest and then learn them for every town and village in the new county, then do all the estates. I have a folder now with about 200 + pages in it of the new county, am going over it now, by the time the country is back up and running I should be ready to sit the test.

Fair play but why bother Cost benifit analyses how much work is there in the new county ?If the answer is loads then just go work it earn the coin .Whats the chances of being caught working the area and whats the penelty as Nike the God of whatever says JUST DO IT .

The new area for me has a college, the two counties I work in does not. so i can work student nights or rag week etc.
its very good for keeping you busy, if i ever used to have a quiet day, i would work at the folder and felt i was doing something useful that would eventually pay off.
how do you mean chances of getting caught working in the area? it would be legal for me to be working in the new county, once i pass the test.

College students will use the app no need to be licenced for the area you can legally pick them up .

I would prefer to have the licence before working in an area just on an app. I think you shouldn't be allowed work in a county where you don't have the area licence.
also I wouldn't be a fan of companies like free now and I don't like having a boss.

This is probably a stupid question , but I take it you don't have to fill in a form every week to get the 350 ?

At the moment daily ...I believe the payment... correct me if I'm wrong ...is for 6 weeks then you go on jobseekers....
Finding a job now be a fine ting

I think they extended the emergency payment for 12 weeks.

Did you not get last weeks payment?
You are entitled to the same payments as everyone else...
-
No Octy, first payment today. Don't really know why they robbed me of one weeks payment. I don't have appetite to argue with them, just thankful
its gone through at last.

You should still get 12 weeks payment....starting from today.

You'll still get paid for the dozen weeks
-
Thanks Hal, Tony!
-
Got it as well, thank fcuk.
-
I didn't get the 1st weeks money either. I think a few of us on here did a postal application on 19th March and got nothing. Re-applied via computer last Tuesday and got the 350 today.
It will be nice if it goes for 12 weeks but I can't imagine staying at home for that long. And I suspect a lot of us self=employed will have to pay it back eventually.
-
I noticed a lot of the media reports commenting on the cost to the taxpayer like it was some sort of surprise. The government closed down the economy not the workers.
350 a week is not a lot of money to stop us looting and eating our pets IMO.It will all get spent on heavily taxed shopping and off licence purchases.
It will be a good reset button for the when the public realise how much crap they were wasting their wages on.
-
This is the third week, I can't see it lasting another 9.
-
I don't think we will have to pay it back watty, but I would imagine the scum that is driving the taxis, and claimiing at the same time will have to
-
^^^^Do you mean the restrictions or the free money Lizzzy?
-
Hardly free money, that's what you pay your taxes , and PRSI for
-
It's free money now but the next ten budgets will have a COVID tax or whatever they wanna call it.
-
Hardly free money, that's what you pay your taxes , and PRSI for
Yis will still have to declare the 350 X 12 as a income when doing yisser taxes next year, in fairness its probably a little more than you normally declare but yill have no outhoings to balance the sheet so we will owe revenue millions
-
Re paying it back...
The Govt gave out the €350 "no questions asked" and said they'll sort it out later. That's why you supposed to submit another official unemployment application within 6 or 12 weeks. Then they'll start looking for your accounts, your savings (saving for a new taxi?), if your partner is full-time PAYE and if you're self-employed. How many of us have a few grand (savings) in the bank to pay for insurance, tax bill and/or a new taxi? I reckon SW would say you should spend that first before you claim to be unemployed & start looking for the 'dole' (in it's most general sense).
I'd say a lot of us wouldn't get unemployment assistance in the first place, that's why I think a lot of us will have to pay back the money. My 2cents.
-
^^^^Do you mean the restrictions or the free money Lizzzy?
Both, it's not as bad over here. I can see different counties being told to get back to work, earlier than Dublin or Cork.
-
Surely they would have to declare it to be means tested if they were going to screw us later ?
-
2nd €350 10.30pm lastnight ::cheers ::cheers ::cheers ::cheers.

I enquired about back payments when on the phone to SW last week and she reassured me that when ever I cancel the benefit payment then I will be paid up after in additional weeks, as in if I go back to work in 6 weeks time and cancel the benefit then I will still get paid on week 7 and 8.
I got me 1st 350 today yay yay

You should go out and party like it's 1999!!
-
I'm of the opinion that they won't be looking for this back except through higher taxes. They've already said it's gonna be 12 weeks payment so they can't backtrack now.
This money is to stop normal law abiding citizens smashing up the dail or the presidents gaff or the local Tesco/Lidl because they can't have steak twice a week..yous know who yis are!
If 10% of the people eligible for supplements started protesting or ignoring the social distancing guidelines tomorrow the cops and the army would be completely overwhelmed. They don't have the manpower so it's just easier to hand out cash.Stops people panicking.
You can have at least 10k in your account before it counts against your social welfare claim AFAIK.

I thought you still working?
-
No, I packed up when the lock down was passed, which seems like a year ago !
-
There isnt a hope they will be coming after us for the 350, they cant give the money out without telling us we cant have a certain amount in our bank accounts and then backtrack, telling us we need to repay it.

And by the way, it's Hung, Drawn and Quartered (Not 'Dried');
"The condemned man would usually be sentenced to the short drop method of hanging, so that the neck would not break. The man was usually dragged alive to the quartering table, although in some cases men were brought to the table dead or unconscious. A splash of water was usually employed to wake the man if unconscious, then he was laid down on the table. A large cut was made in the gut after removing the genitalia, and the intestines would be spooled out on a device that resembled a dough roller. Each piece of organ would be burned before the sufferer's eyes, and when he was completely disembowelled, his head would be cut off. The body would then be cut into four pieces, and the king would decide where they were to be displayed. Usually the head was sent to the Tower of London and, as in the case of William Wallace, the other four pieces were sent to different parts of the country. The head was generally par-boiled in brine to preserve the appearance of the head in display, while the quarters were more often prepared in pitch, for longer-lasting deterrent displays."

It is crazy how cruel people were hundreds of years ago. it is hard to believe them people are related to us. They obviously got a kick out of the horrible methods they used to torture and kill each other. sick fcukers.

<snip>
I don't know the answer. But if 500,000 people gets the emergency payment of €350/wk for 12/wks, that's €2.1 Billion! I think the country's 'turnover' is only something like €50bn. I can't imagine they'd give away that much money and then just let us keep it? Esp, when pretty much anybody with a PPS number and a bank account got it. And there will be people who'll hang on for the 12 weeks milking it & not going back to work. They'd have to do some sort of double-checking?
-
They'll be so busy with the job seekers applications they won't have time to be doing audits in the next year or two. Many folks won't go back to work straight away because they're jobs won't exist anymore.
They've killed off so many peoples livelihoods so they don't really have any reasons to come back afterwards looking for the money back IMO.
It will be spent then they'll get income tax from our incomes and tax when we buy stuff. No flies on our civil servants.
If yer not working you don't need to think about it really.Just add €4200 to your income for the year.
Time will tell.
-
I'm officially back on the scratcher... 350 beer vouchers in the bank... get in!

A guy with leprosy walks into a bar.
He sits down next to a man and orders a beer, a few minutes pass and the guy next to the leper vomits all over the bar.
The leper, being used to it, moves to the other end of the bar.
A few minutes later, the guy vomits again. the leper is still unfazed.
After the leper orders his second beer, the guy pukes again. finally the leper says to the guy "fuck it, i'll just leave if you can't look at me without puking."
The guy looks at him, vomits again, and says "it isn't you that's making me sick, it's the guy behind you dipping nachos in your neck!"

Were you never on the scratcher before... Bank holidays are paid in advance so you can go away for the weekend and/or have a bet on the Monday.

Sorry, it's the Childrens allowance I was thinking off... I'm told normal dole isn't paid early for bank holidays... at least not to those who collect used notes from the post office.
