Hi Francis,
We would like to say thank you for your responses to the survey we sent out last week. 87% of drivers said that they would be interested in giving HSE workers discounted travel to and from Irish hospitals. With such a positive response we wanted to make this happen.
To help keep Ireland’s essential services moving, we’d like to offer healthcare workers an approximate 50% discount on trips to and from work. As part of the initiative, we’re not charging commission so the total discount you would be offering is 35%.
So from tomorrow at 10am, drivers will have the option to support medical staff with the introduction of a new fleet type in the app called ‘Medical’ offering a reduced fixed fare of approximately 50%.
These jobs are completely optional and will be clearly marked to show that they are discounted fares open to healthcare professionals only.
The initiative offers medical staff a quicker and comfortable way to travel to and from work at a reduced rate while helping drivers to continue to do jobs and earn money.

All you have to do AFTER you accept the job is ask for their healthcare ID upfront. Imagine the media reaction when you refuse a fare because the passenger didn't have their healthcare ID.

Its hard to believe that a dispatcher like F/N have such little regard for the welfare of drivers health.I cannot believe drivers are so stupid,or else greedy.I would expect the likes of Ebbs to do this,but it shows that free now are right up there with the worst of them.a blatent disregard for the health of taxi drivers,and as if that was not bad enough,they try then to make it look like they are genuinely concerned

I think they're actually gonna speed up the spreading of the virus by actively looking for HSE heroes.25% of current possitive cases are HSE heroes.
It's completely unnecessary IMO considering Renault and Axa insurance are offering free cars and cover to HSE staff.
One taxi could spread it amongst multiple staff then loads of patients in a very short time.There's no way the driver taking a 50% hit is going to be sanitising their taxi after every fare.They're not gonna want to touch the fukking thing.
I suspect Freenow know most lads will avoid the jobs but by offering them they might get a few likes on Facebook or equivalent.It's a PR stunt.

In a few weeks when they start offering 25% discounted fares to all customers there will be lads on here defending them because it won't be as bad as the HSE discount.Good times ahead.

Freenow control the Taxi industry.They can do what they like and discount what they like.When our own dispatchers were kings they discounted up to 45% and more.So the Multinational Daimler AG are saying the way it now goes.Will they give you 50% off a new Mercedes?.They should be taking the hit and all of it .50% it should be free for medical staff, and Daimler AG should pay as they getting loads of money off the freenow Jockeys.I defiantly think ill be looking at my options after this virus passes .The taxi industry rotten to the core.Will free now call the Covid19 test centres medical 50% off.This is the beginning of the end.

I can see a ot of lads not returning to the industry after this thing settles down,including myself.Either because they're at risk from their health or don't wanna be offering discounts again like ten years ago.
10k a year minimum to keep a taxi on the road whether you get 100% or 50% of the fare.Why would anyone wanna go back to 60/70 hours a week.

The Freenow drivers will do what there told .They are Brainwashed and can't function without it and they know that.I wouldn't dare doing there work as no money in it.The have a fleet of robot drivers give them a sambo and coffee or ice-cream and they work for nothing like kids. Mecenary is right lots of drivers might not return.

I'm convinced its not only free now drivers who act in the way you describe.it seems to me there are a hugh amount of taxi drivers and although in theory they are self employed,they just cannot function without some kind of supervision.maybe it goes back to their days in the PAYE sector they are just like a fish out of water when working dor themselves.I can understand to that extent why some join dispatchers,they need to be told what to do

I have never filled out a questionaire, nor do I play their "games". I cant imagine how anyone could be naive enough to give that kind of discount and take the financial hit (in these already hard times) just so that FN can clap itself on the back in their P.R. and ad campaigns. ::)

The survey was probably sent to their top 50 earning drivers who were too afraid to refuse their boss by saying no,as someone posted above add in fuel, insurance, wear and tear etc to the 50% and you're risking getting the virus for virtually nothing off someone going or coming from hospital.
I certainly saw no survey.

About the survey I got it because I'm on their system as a city center driver probably going on where I live and work mostly.I'm kinda near to the Matter.Not an Ambassador or a high earner.
The survey had stuff about delivering hospital equipment and medical deliveries so some who may have been interested had probably no intention of carrying passengers.They threw that stuff in to skew the survey.So it's all bollix.

So Big Dommo called over this morning with Smoked Kippers and Bucks Fizz for breakfast we took it out on the back Lawn .The smoked fish greatly complimented the Champagne and Orange Juice but I digress with my breakfast menu .Dommo was wondering .One of the requirements for getting a WAT licence is you are AVAILABLE to transport Wheelchair patients so if you drive a WAT and suspend your insurance you are no longer meeting the Licencing requirement so are you invalidating your licence .Unlike a saloon licence which a Supreme court judge ruled you do not have to operate .

Not quiet yet Horse, down here FN is the only show in town so we are stuck with either them or a dispatcher or work the streets/ranks.
But my loyalties are waning by the day, first there was the voucher issue where I was very unfairly treated and lied too, never getting an apology, then the 15% commission increase and then the 8 cent off per liter discontinued with a big promise that a new offer would be coming soon and not a Dickie bird about that fer months now. And then this DISGUSTING offer this morning which is no more than a PR stunt putting drivers lives at risk while they cocoon themselves.

The Four Door bonnett and Boot men cant see further that their bubble some lads paying freight plus running Free Now and UBER never asking if any of these things were any good why do I need Three of them .Lads doing 60 hours a week taking 1200 with costs of 600 between freight fuel car insurance maintainance .If they were in a PAYE job the 20 hours overtime would be paid at at least time and a half are in reality working for 8.56 an hour before tax and insurance .Fooling themselves that the more you work the more you earn .I winder if any Ambassadores ever looked at how many jobs they cover for under a tenner in a week .

Fer those of us who read the small print which I guess is about 2% of us;
How do I know if my passenger's are medical staff ?
Only healthcare workers are allowed avail of this new fleettype and we are telling our passengers this, however we would ask that you confirm this with proof of their medical ID.
If a trip has been taken without a licence please inform us directly and we will refund you the value of the trip and ban the passenger in question.

Fair enough ken but if these cnuts were serious about helping the cause they'd pay the drivers double the fare for danger money, charge the customer half fare and in the event the driver gets the disease they'd look after him financially by paying him 70% of his previous years earnings broken up into weekly payments. Thats IF they were serious which they're not.

You really dont get it Paul the Four Door Bonnett and Boot men think they are running a business and think the more they work the more they earn when the reality is the more you work the more you work there is no fiscal association between the two .I know what time to be where to make coin anybody can sit at Heuston or Thomas Street for an hour and get 6 euro to the Flats on Jamses Street .About 70% of drivers are less than 10 years at this they couldnt find the own cock in a toilet never mind work the apps own them .They will be the first men on the end of the rope when they realize the cost of doing business out weight the return .

Now I engage the services of a dispatch firm for no other reason then to provide me with work .now at this stage,I consider myself to some extent to be that firms employer right ? Now that same dispatch firm gets to big for its boots and starts directly interfering in the running of my business,( bearing in mind they were only hired to provide me with work nothing else ) why the fukk would I allow them to do this ? In all sincerity maybe its time we DID seriously think about getting so.ebody elected on to the transport council I believe John M would represent our interest,he certainly has a good insight into what is going on.I therefore propose at the next opportunity we think seriously about this.there is no good constantly whinging ,and whining about dispatchers,NTA,etc when we have the opportunity to have a man on the inside who can influence policy decisions in our favour.

The reality is that as long as FN have the drivers then they will get the work and as long as they have the work then they will get the drivers it's a circle . Slagging off drivers on here will not change that.. what we need to do is break that circle somehow . 2 ideas come to mind right now .
fFirstly that email has been sent and they cannot unsend it so we need to take control of the narrative so we can get the reality of what this is and what it means out into the public discourse.
A protest is not possible and probably not that usefull . we should collectively pester Joe Duff on Liveline and that other one on Newstalk to tackle the issue and make sure FN dont set the tone .we should set up a social media campaign on Facebook ,Twister, Instagram and what ever else there is . on this Issue alone and be relentless ! God knows we have time on our hands and theres more of us than there is of them .

Because YOU ARE WRONG Dollymount You waffle to much and apply no logic Ill try again try listen and learn THE PASSENGERS NEED/WANT dispatchers they need a reliable service provider .They need to be able to get to Hospital or Airport they do not want to rely on some driver being sober or interested in doing the job .So your assumption Dispatchers are not needed is incorrect .Here is a different way of looking at it .A dispatcher provides a service that puts a passenger who does not wish to wait and street hail a cab in touch with a driver who is seeking work .The taxithingey allow 2 euro for the provision of this service if there was an agreement between driver and dispatcher to split this charge 50/50 that would be fair .If you said something like this more might respond but your assumption dispatchers are not needed is incorrect .THE PASSENGERS WHO PROVIDE THE CASH WANT THEM .

I saw earlier on the FN Facebook advert some replies to questions, they said the offer is not limited to HSE workers, it includes all medical frontline workers, (who else uses taxis now?).. and it’s for any use, not just going to and from work.
So it’s basically a 50% off for say.. 70% of their current clientele at all times!

If F/N owned the cars, and the drivers were actually employees of that company, then yes, of course they would have the right to make such an offer to the medical staff, or anyone else they like. But thats NOT the case is it ,? the drivers own the cars, the drivers ARE NOT employees, the drivers own their own businesses, yet the drivers allow 3rd party intervention in the running of THEIR business . I would be surprised if after all this is over they don't raise their commission to 20% and use the excuse that because of the downturn in the economy and in order to advertise for more work and secure more lucrative contracts for the drivers that it is necessary to raise the commission to 20 % to fund these campaigns. They may even go as far as to say they'll raise commission to 20% for ambassadors and normal drivers will be 22% thus forcing drivers to become ambassadors. I for one am finished with them. Their greed and sheer lack of respect for drivers, the very people who pay their wages has reached tipping point. I'm not waiting for them to up the commission, fcuk em, I'm done.

that's if local cab company's are still around. The longer this shit goes on, the more likely the likes of ck2 are of closing. I think ck2 only have about 20 drivers paying them €65. Dial a cab are more or less gone already.

A FN Ambassador is a Taxi Driver who has decided to allow FN to deck his car out with stickers(for Advertisind Purposes) to gain an advantage on other FN drivers who choose not to advertise FN for Nothing.
In return for allowing them to rape his car he gets a time advantage on jobs posted on the App over the ordinary driver, that's all no money for advertising thou.

Because card payments are here to stay and if you are working days the suits like the apps.That's our bread and butter.They like the traceability and the emailed receipts.
Yes you can work the ranks but Dublin city centre has lost many of the shopper ranks.You could on a bad day earn a lot less than you would with the apps.I don't like them but I also don't like working 14 hours a day.

6/7 hours on the day shift could be ok but considering where we might be going you could be grossing 60 quid for those hours.Not enough when it's costing 200 a week to be a taxi driver.You'd struggle to cover your costs in less than 2/3 shifts.
All about costs really.I could work for buttons if my overheads we're very low.

Ah well I still have pretty heavy overheads, but I still manage. I don't have a mortgage, but I have a very large CU loan which accounts for most. I'm in a CU that pays all my domostic bills I'm in it about 25 years now, and it's a great system

Of course there is a strong element of charity in those fares. The men covering them can't make a living at those rates but they will derive a degree of job satisfaction (to be honest, an alien concept to most of us) in knowing that they are contributing to saving lives. Their courage and generosity may help lower paid healthcare workers avoid crowded buses, trains, luaseyes, etc...

Don't know where you're living but i have to agree...here in Drogheda a lot of older drivers still working....i saw one picking up three passengers with one jumping in the front.....as they say up here...no bodder!!

If your a civil servant with zero drop in income you've no excuse.....but a self employed taxi driver cant print money wen work is all but vanished.....I'm not sure the court service is open except for alledged domestic violence barring orders .....also a taxi driver cant be evicted from a tenancy ide imagine on account of this virus crisis and his lack of income ........all process of evictions would be deferred ......course I'm only guessing but it wud seem most likely.....landlords mortgages on hold also for those who have them

As fer the maintenance issue no letters as of yet from the courts to those of us that do have to pay maintenance, I would guess that if you didn't pay then unlikely the Gardai would be knocking at your door, but you will still have to repay it over time when this is all over.

100% Silverbullet.I hammered Freenow on Social media on all sites and groups ,and I thought funniest, was give more discounts to other essential services.I hate that company and even before pandemic, seeing freenow robot drivers with stickers all over there cars ,I look on them with disgust.Its Wakey Wakey time with this company.Virus and them should get lost.

Yeah we're lucky we can decide not to work.I know a chap in a big company and he'd prefer to be at home keeping his distance and his family safe even though he's on really good money.

True I suppose the deadly virus is after those air miles .Even now as we cannot travel more than 2km from our homes .. there are still internal and international flights to europe and the states arriving and leaving from Dublin Airport.
Those travelling are expected to self isolate for 14 days on arrival.
Oh well then That makes me feel so much better! I mean we cannot travel more than 2 km from our houses we cannot go out of our homes at all if we happen top be over 70 . there are police checkpoints everywhere, Riot police vans cruising our streets.... regular folk are now "self policing" the socialist distancing but that all makes sense because people arriving on international flights from NewYork or Rome are expected to self isolate for 14 days on arrival rofl
