What happens to the Taxi industry after Covid19 passes??.Will it be worth while still driving a Taxi?.All those Naanvans and prius drivers will be back in force.Where does it leave us?.Maybe time to hang the boots up?.Im looking at all angles, as with insurance and repairs, the maths won't addup and zero tourism to add to it.Its all just facts .We ALL need to sit back and look at the bigger picture .What will we do?

It certainly won't be just like flicking a switch for the economy to return to normal and might take a bit longer for the taxi game to get back up to speed....might be a new speed though,
You couldprobably survive if you have fukall overheads but running a joe isn't cheap either.
-
I have been telling all of you this is not a full time job for a man with a mortgage or single income .Get another part time gig .Parcel delivery will boom as shops shut and people buy with credit on line .Team up with a mate get a Van do deliveries and share the taxi as well .

Even with fukall overheads, it might not be viable.Could we parkup taxi and get Jobseekers?

who knows what the future holds, it is best not to always think the worst will happen. There is going to be a boom when the pubs re open, you will be busy then anyway. if I was ye I wouldnt be working for free now though. if you dont have a dublin licence, you shouldnt be able to work in dublin via free now. I reckon it will be easy enough as well to get people to switch from free now to one of the other app's if ye want to work for one of them companies. people wont have any loyalty to freenow, why would they?
are you not getting the 350?

Taxi 1990 why did you say WORK FOR when talking about the dispatcher you don't WORK FOR THEM , you work WITH them. They are not your employer, though, most of them think they are

because look at the way they brought in the 15% commission. did they discuss this with the drivers or just bring it in as they pleased?

well I am't, i dont work for/with them.

Well I'm very glad to hear you don't work with them . Unfortunately nearly every driver on here , when they talk about a dispatcher, they say it in the context of working FOR them. That's why all the drivers cannot seem to understand the discounts. They don't seem to realize they are not employees, and they can say no. In fact THEY , the drivers are the employers, and that's another thing they don't seem to realize. This coronavirus could be the best thing that ever happened to the industry, if it bankrupts dispatchers and they go out of business . I'd fukin love it
-
I don't foresee regular airline travel resuming until next spring..... still praying to superman that it will be September though

Might close dispatchers ,but will make that freenow stronger.Dispatchers only control 30% of the market Freenow 70%.So imagine freenow with 95%,They will dictate the taxi discounts at there leisure.
-
it's all a loada bollocks.
-
Fella I know hires casual labour says pubs wont reopen till September unless they have a large beer garden or outside seating area .Horseracing ,GAA soccer concerts no chance until September .He says that the contract to supply barriers for the Dublin City Marathon has been canceled as athletes cannot train for the event .Horseshow not yet cancelled but he has not been asked yet to supply casual day labourers .

I'd say most firms will offer discounts to try to get folk using cabs again.

Oh they will at the expense of the driver its already started. You will never see Dublin Bus drop there bus fare price as its set by the NTA.Taxis are robots they follow the pied piper Freenow, and the last 30% holding of the obsolete dispatchers.I dont do either as I can't afford to discount fares.Im seriously thinking of hanging the boots up.Im nearly 50 and might get something less stressful.
-
Well here we go again . Rat said it dispatchers night offer discounts to get people to use cabs again . How many times must I say it . Dispatchers don't offer discounts,, YOU DO

Things will be quiet fer a while !

The unemployed will be able to go to the pub 7 days a week again.

The dispatch firms coordinate the discounts, DM. C2K never really gave much away but what they did was approved by drivers. Other firms, such as Free Now / mytaxi / Hail0 were more proactive, presumably letting the suits do what the suits do with drivers having little or no input.
