Talking to a lad manages some good Irish bands he recons some of them will get knocked back next year .He had some great bookings for them for this years festivals .He thinks next year established artists will reduce their fees or play for nothing just to remind fans they are still around and to pretend they are supporting the promoters to get back up and running .

It's gonna be 'Stormy Sea's' ahead fer most of us, batten down the hatches fer now,
and then work your ass off fer pittance till we get past it, hopefully it will be 2022 before
we see a return to the income we had just a few short weeks ago.

Musicians will have to adapt, just like they did switching to gigging when CD sales dropped off a cliff.

Fairly depressing RTE article (https://www.rte.ie/news/coronavirus/2020/0414/1130347-coronavirus-covid19-arts-culture-music/) quoting Colm Mac Con Iomaire (very good Irish musician).  They're only making pennies from streaming (see below).  However, some are making money from hosting live gigs from their house.  Obviously the big bands can't do that and make millions.  But the smaller and mid-tier bands could probably make a few hundred a week if they tried it out?

RTE/Mac Con Iomaire:
Quote
He said that 48% of music is streamed by YouTube but it only accounts for 7% of the revenue. He explained that 1,000 streams on Apple music would pay around €7, but the same amount on spotify would be around €3.50, but on YouTube it is around 58 cents.

Another example maybe... Your daughter is a DJ.  You/she have probably heard of 'BBC Essentials' or 'Late Night Tales (https://latenighttales.co.uk)'.  If she has a following online, maybe she could have a competition/twitter poll to get people to suggest the first song and she could make a 1hr playlist or something like that could be download from soundcloud etc.  Would people pay a €5/10 for that?

Jeez John, you actually remember Laurie Hartz ? I remember him in the Tudor rooms . There was a friend of mine used to do the Cabernet scene in Dublin at that time also. The values, they were a great duo, poor auld Gerry Farrelly , he's dead now unfortunately, but they were fantastic
