Surely it's only a matter of going out once or twice a week and starting the car for a few minutes ?

Clog up the DPF if you do it too often you need to give it a run get oil up to temp .
-
Brought mine for an spin today, give the brakes some working time.....felt the gearshifter and had a snakey wank....like ye do!!
-
Big Dommos sisters Fellas first wifes youngfella right scumbag not one of us not from the flats but is a reformed character now .He knew a lot about cars first driving ban when he was 11 anyway Im just trying to show he has form when it comes to motoring so his advice might be good .He recons you should drive your motor for at least half an hour a week get it up to temp and let the oil run around the engine do not just turn it on and sit in the garden drive it .He recons if you dont drive it and get the juices circulating you will perished hoses and possible get airlocks and leaks .

Had to buy a new battery...Too many jump starts...It had more dead cells than the Provos...
-
The battery in the PRIUS is fine,
Guilty as charged! 8)
-
Lidi battery charger 17 euro
Well worth it
-
I have a battery charger but it would take ages to charge a modern diesel battery. Jump leads present a pretty much instant solution.
-
Had to replace my battrey new years eve .Mechanic had a new one that he got for a customer ,but stuck it into my yoke to get me out on the road .€90 fitted .Had bought a few battreys off a crowd on cappagh rd over the years (cost price ) Tim Molloys .
-
Just to add my yoke 2015 modie 2.0 litre ,180 bhp ,has stop/start ,mechanic said normal heavy duty battrey is fine .!!

Your mechanic is wrong, that battery won't last pissing time.
-
I dont use the stop/start tho .Battreys life span can varey ,but i usually get about 3 years out off them .Time will tell .
-
Pissing time might be all I can afford when all this is over!
-
Iif I ever buy a new car, the first thing I'll make sure of is that it doesn't have one of those what they call a feature, where the car stops every time you stop at a traffic light or anywhere else. I just cannot see how that is labeled as being a feature

We use to call it conking out.
-
I can't imagine it would do your starting motor much good stopping and starting
-
They say the starter motors are made of stronger stuff these days. If you think of a starter motor as an alternator in reverse it might help. The alternator turns constantly with the engine yet they are very reliable in modern cars.
-
The Hybrid is far more efficient.
-
Until the batteries die.

Until the batteries die.
STBO.
-
Are them STBO batteries...long life? lol
-
Something I've always wondered about is, if your going to buy a new car why would you go for one you have to plug in and charge when the other one charges as you drive ?
-
Cheaper to run and better for the environment.
-
The plug in hybrids will only get you 40 miles before it becomes a normal regenerative braking hybrid.....fukall use as a taxi for the extra cost involved in the purchase.
-
I certainly wouldn't go for the one you have to plug in I don't care if it's cheaper or not. If I did go for it, I would get one of those charging points into my house anyway
-
If Govt was paying for my car like it does for all the immigrants I'd have one of those Audi Etrons.
-

Leave battery in car and put charger on it overnight
-
South side motors ballyfermot 80 a diesel battery and 2 yr warranty
-
These ill fitter....but not on every motor
-
I can't understand why tis are letting her batteries go flat in the first place. I take my car around the block every day
-
Too much effort, easier to jump start ever 3 or 4 weeks I guess. In any event the battery shouldn't be flat after 3 weeks, sure we all went on vacation several times a year 'till the virus hit.
-
i feel more confident now that I splashed out on a new battery...It actually starts ...first time now!! Remember a 1.2 petrol engine needs much less energy to start ....when compaired to a 2,0 diesel engine
-
Maybe you understand what "stay at home" means... DM struggles with that concept for some reason.
-
It takes about 20-30 minutes idling to make up for the energy used to start it up.You must actually drive it to charge it properly.
-
Yeah...I noticed some neighbours running their engines for a few minutes
-
Your right as usual I do struggle with what stay at home means your always right about everything your amazing
-
I'm finding that every time I drive my car to charge the battery, I pass by the off-licence. And it seems rude to drive by and not support local Irish business :2cheers
-
280 new cars sold in April !
-
I wonder would ya get a really good deal at the moment on buying a car
-
I said nothing bad about dispatchers in about 2 weeks, but fukk it . I can't hold on any longer . Leo is after announcing a wave of measures to help businesssssssssss , and I betya the first in the queue will be Kearns , Kelly , and Ebbs with their hands out oh no they won't I forgot . They still have their plebs out there spreading the desease, and feeding off the profits of the drivers labour
-
it's all a loada bollocks.
-
What's the B side on that broken record Doc? lol

Not necessarily When the battery goes flat after a couple of weeks parked up it's usually a sign that it's on the way out.
-

it's all a loada of me arse.
