Coronavirus appears to linger in the air in crowded spaces or rooms that lack ventilation, researchers found in a study that buttresses the notion that Covid-19 can spread through tiny airborne particles known as aerosols.
At two hospitals in Wuhan, China, researchers found bits of the virus’s genetic material floating in the air of hospital toilets, an indoor space housing large crowds, and rooms where medical staff take off protective gear. The study, published Monday in the journal Nature Research, didn’t seek to establish whether the airborne particles could cause infections.
The question of how readily the new virus can spread through the air has been a matter of debate. The World Health Organization (WHO) has said the risk is limited to specific circumstances, pointing to an analysis of more than 75,000 cases in China in which no airborne transmission was reported.
But as the virus fans across the globe and infections nearly 3 million, scientists are trying to understand exactly how contamination occur
Aerosols
People produce two types of droplets when they breathe, cough or talk. Larger ones drop to the ground before they evaporate, causing contamination mostly via the objects on which they settle. Smaller ones - those that make up aerosols - can hang in the air for hours.
The researchers, led by Ke Lan of Wuhan University, set up so-called aerosol traps in and around two hospitals in the city that was home to the pandemic’s first steps.
They found few aerosols in patient wards, supermarkets and residential buildings. Many more were detected in toilets and two areas that had large crowds passing through, including an indoor space near one of the hospitals.
Especially high concentrations appeared in the rooms where medical staff doff protective equipment, which may suggest that particles contaminating their gear became airborne again when masks, gloves and gowns are removed.
The findings highlight the importance of ventilation, limiting crowds and careful sanitation efforts, the researchers said. - BLOOMBERG

I totally agree with John. It cannot be emphasised enough about the dangers of this virus, and to think we have hero taxi drivers out there helping to spread the desease even more, while also claiming the 350 what kind of gobshites are they ?

STC in the present circumstances there is no way they would be making more then 350 a week. I can't prove they are claiming, but I'd say it's odds on they are. I hope the the dept of employment, or revenue or whoever has responsibility for it has some way to chase it up

Don't be a moron all your life, drivers believe a screen is better than no screen, disinfectant aerosol after every job, regular hand washing and desanitiser along all round good hygiene and you'll be far safer in your taxi than shopping in Tesco

Interesting that both of the Professors on with Claire Byrne tonight now (however reluctantly) agree that masks should be worn where the recommended physical distancing element of social distancing cannot be observed. Given that taximen can't adhere to either the work from home suggestion or the suggested physical distance elements of social distancing it defies logic that neither NTA nor Free Now have advised drivers to wear masks.... as suggested by intaxi.org from day one.

Their position in the pack ,really had not changed its only their realization that after years of deluding them selves they were the alfa animal in the heard they are really the underdog non essential to the working of the overall family unit .No plastic screen or mouth guard is going to fix that reality .

Have you heard ONE of the drivers who want to fit screens or wear ballaclavas mention they might want to get tested to make sure THEY are not spreading the Dizzzzzeeeeeeeze to the customers .Thats why we are getting paid to Socially Distance so we do not spread the Fever while we WORK that point seems to be lost on the bubblewrap boys they think they are stopping passengers spreading it while ignoring they are being paid not to spread it with stay at home stay safe money .

Me too, I'm loving this, never again will the government pay me to take 12 weeks holiday/ or to do my DIY, however there is no harm preparing for the inevitability of returning to work at some time, sticking the head in the sand in this regard seems stupid.

No most of us don't seem to be as fragile as you, you'll find most doctors and nurses are working currently along with many other essential and some not quite so essential workers

A test for antibodies would be excellent. How far away is it?
There's a lot about... sorting out the ones that actually work is the problem, I believe scientists are working on that. They tried one on Claire Byrne last night and it recorded no antibodies, the professors concluding that the test didn't work as the antibodies had to be present... unless (something they dismissed) the original COVID '19 test result was wrong and she never had it.

I don't understand, what are they testing for.? If you had it you'd know about it, and you wouldn't need a test to confirm it. Also a test is of no benefit insofar as curing it

It could be. Blood with sufficient antibodies could (at least in theory) be given to infected patients.

Not to any significant extent. I'd imagine the experts have done the sums and factored in whatever psychology is needed to spread the virus at the desired rate.

Same as taxi drivers ....alot people assume yur overcharging ....the higher up the profession they dealing with and the more they are being charged the less likely people will question the cost .....last time I did a nixer on a car it was 30 years ago an cause it was me auntie I dint charge her for the labour so I effectively did it for nuttin ....took me all day ......
The uncle phoned me da cople days later an said I was after robbin her ........I never did a nixer again ......

Do fuck all for nonebody ..I worked in a place at the back of Dublin Providers Im in the workshop drilling fucking hundreds of brackets and I smell smoke I look out side and see smoke coming from a house and run around knock on the door nobody answers so I kick in the front door run upstairs and the old lad that lives there has fallen asleep and his smoke has started a fire the old cancer ridden piss stained no good useless old bastard should of been left to roast but I saved the old bastard and put out the fire .That evening his son knocked around to my bosses gaff and asked for my address boss gave it to him thinking I was going to get a thank you instead this little cunt knocked up to my gaff asking had I seen his oulfellas pension book .
