You only had to take the roof sign off .Simple instruction .Just had a phone call from a driver parked up outside his gaff got a letter this morning off welfare saying his coin is stopped as he is working because his van was observed with the roof sign intact .

Dunno Erm if you have no PSV insurance your not a taxi driver anymore.Welfare would need to catch you in the act to cut off your money.They're much smarter than they look.

Not True 42 he got the letter this morning and I saw it .He is appealing .He was told by his broker not to cancel his insurance as he would then only have 3rd party and if anything happened to his van he would not be covered .He didnt disconect from the app as advised by the Taxithingey so I suppose technically he is still a viable taxi ?

That doesn't mean he was working though.Maybe he may have actually have been working and his details were noted at a checkpoint.Welfare aren't stupid.

He was told by broker he would only have 3rd party its a new van use to drive a rental its his first policy in his own name so was afraid to mess with it and broker im sure didnt want to be returning commission .

Sorry John... You are right.. I hold me hands up... Just off th phone to a friend of mine who has a taxi rented out. The lad who's driving the taxi has been caught working and claiming but trying to deny it. My mate got a letter from revenue asking him is this lad renting your taxi at the moment. He had to reply yes.

So the vehicle was spotted driving around appearing to ply for hire...You see they don't cut you off unless they have reason to.I'd say they're taking a gamble but he can still appeal.
If he wasn't actually working he can argue his position.For every bloke that posts his letter up on Facebook another 200 might sign off.So it's a win-win for welfare.

I got a message from the taxithingy Break the link and inform them if you were suspending your licence .There seems to be some debate between not working and suspending your licence .You are supposed to be available so that would mean keeping your discs in place so you can respond to any availability .

Don't forget the staff from welfare live where yous live.They're mostly working from home.I'm sure many are out walking and cycling.You wouldn't be able to spot them in a lineup.Easy to spot a working taxi.Or just order from Freenow and they'll send one to your gaff.

Email from NTA dated 17th April:
As always, it is the driver’s responsibility to notify NTA (create a driver to vehicle link) when operating a vehicle or face a fine and potential prosecution.
Any SPSV licence holders not operating at present are required to break their driver to vehicle link by using the SPSV Online Portal or emailing taxis@nationaltransport.ie. This includes owner operators who usually create open ended links for themselves on their vehicle. The Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection may verify that SPSV licence holders, who have applied for income support, have notified the NTA that they are not operating a vehicle (i.e. broken their driver to vehicle link).
Any taxi licence holders not operating at present are also required to remove the taxi roof-sign.

@silverbullet, to me thats just a piece of white paper with no official department identification on it. Someone just stirring the pot. That letter is just B.S. Without it. Public transport is fucked, buses,trains and taxis etc down 90%. There is no social welfare or taxi reg road checks not with this social distancing lark. The government just want to work through this nightmare and get things back on some sort of track. Any taxi thats out there are barely making it to top up what they were on before. But sure what about all the part timers they got a pay rise with this Chinese flu19.

Joe, I know a driver who got a letter from the welfare sayin' they were cuttin' off his pandemic payment because he was spotted out workin'. He did'nt know the letter was typed up by an aulwan in an office who'd been sneezing all day. He ended up wipin' his arse with the letter and he got the coronavirus off it through his backside, Joe.

If you unlink yourself from your car from do you have to send the discs back or is that only if you lower your insurance to private use?
I'm not working but want to keep the option open to go back and don't want to have no discs if I decide to do that.

Tamper proof stickers only need to be returned if you reduce your insurance cover down to private

I’m unlinked on app but roofsign is still on. It’s a taxi, taxed, insured and licensed as a taxi. Why should I remove roofsign, it’s supposed to be on the car at all times. NTA moving goalposts.
In regards to that letter, seems like a very long web address to have to copy from a letter to an internet browser to return the payment,
it all looks very staged,
with someone’s name and address on it visible on the reverse.
I’ve never received a letter with what looks like. “Clickable” link on it

Axa gave drivers the option to drop cover, Allianz didn’t.
Axa are giving private motorists the rebate, Allianz are give drivers €60 back. Yippee

So AXA didnt really give ANYTHING.if they gave taxii drivers the option to drop cover like you said,,then they are only covered for social ,domestic,and personal. They didnt give you anything .what they are charging you for social,domestic,etc is what you would have been paying for a quote of that nature anyway.allienz are giving tou back money off ,but your still insured as a taxi,where as your not insured as a taxi with AXA if you drop your cover

Just for extra clarity I text a relative of mine working in welfare and they say the COVID payment is only if you are unable to work.If you go back working yer supposed to sign off it.No grey areas that they're aware of.
I sent them a pic of the letter and in their opinion it's real.Might not be but there's definitely a crackdown on all scammers.
Just PM the plate numbers lads and I'll pass them on....and yer bank details.

Regarding AXA....i paid my deposit in January,around €350...the March installment of €203 came out as normal and i've paid two installments of €81.43(€162.86)....that's €750 so far,i think that well covers the taxi use and the SD&P elements to date,i've asked the NTA for another month extension with regard to the suspension of my licence,i don't think AXA should be looking for anymore money from me until i resume working...whenever that is.
