As Ireland prepares to lift some lockdown restrictions, Free Now has released new travel guidelines.
The taxi app is encouraging drivers and passengers to wear face coverings when travelling.
It recommends people not to travel in groups of more than two people both of whom should sit in the back seat.
The company also wants drivers to install a partition screen in their taxis and says it has been providing screens to drivers still working throughout the crisis.
Drivers working during the crisis have also received bottles of hand sanitiser and masks.
Free Now is encouraging passengers to avoid paying by cash if they can and, of course, to wash their hands before and after travelling.
"Over the past two months we have seen taxi drivers step up to keep essential workers moving across Ireland," Alan Fox, General Manager of Free Now Ireland said.
"Now, as we approach the first phase of the lockdown easing, we want to ensure that drivers and passengers feel protected over the coming months as the country starts to open up again.
“By encouraging passengers and drivers to wear face coverings, limit the number of people travelling and install partitions we hope to play our part in helping to get the country moving again in a safe and responsible way.”

What medical advice have they taken on face masks ?
-
They are actively encouraging drivers to install the screens.this could be seen as a modification to your car,and xould possibly invalidate your insurance policy in the event of an accident.in addition I doubt if the NCT,and the suitability people would pass you either

Did you contact the NCT to ask?

NTA would have no power over the insurance nor would they have any say with the NCT

Who do you think sets the NCT ...Billy Bunter ! or Dennis the Menace ?NCT is only a test set by the NTA .

NCTis a governmant test, set by the deptt of transport, who are the over riding b

The NCT don't check the suitability as a taxi.....but at Licence Renewal Assessment those screens could become an issue.....but how come shops, chemists etc can install "safety screens" seemingly without issue.

Because there's probably some sort of official standard for those shop screens.
Drivers are trusting FN who first posted a DIY YouTube video & who then found some company in Baldonnell. I don't know how professional it is but it seems to my amateur eye that it's just a bit of hard plastic plastic-tied to your seats? There's nothing from the NTA about screens. And drivers are hoping everything will be ok with insurance, suitability & NCT? Hmmm. I'm not so sure.
Remember, FN can't make a penny unless we work. So they're desperate for us to work. When you consider the NTA have standards for the fukking plasters in your safety kit, I'd like to hear from the NTA before I modify my taxi.
-
If Freenows screens are so effective why are they encouraging face masks?

Then do what the money hungry poxes should do and place a plastic bag on the head Khmer rouge style, thus solving two problems in one.

Good to know.
My Snot screen will be simply used so the punters are in back and no Cunt sitting beside me fiddling with the radio.

I now use Spotify off my phone, f**k 'em. The radio is a jap import, it doesn't work on our waveband. 8)

Well they are paying for the journey .
That reminds me of the time I went to Vicar Street and had to walk all the way to Jurys Inn to get a taxi. All I wanted to do was sit back and relax because my dogs were barking, but the old boy turns off the radio and in his rough accent, talks mundane dung all the way to the Hotel.

Jeez did ya not feel guilty getting a taxi from vicker st to durys ?

"Over the past two months we have seen taxi drivers step up to keep essential workers moving across Ireland," Alan Fox, General Manager of Free Now Ireland said.
Yeah and getting rode up the hole with 50% off the fares. The fuckin' eejit's .No mention of that in the poxbottles statement.

Typical German " Don't mention the Fare". 8)

A Cork taxi company is already advertising that you can book a car with a screen both by phone and by their app, a second company is currently fitting out 100% of their fleet with screens, I think not having one soon will be detrimental to our earnings, as once they get used to them customers at ranks and pre booking will expect a screened car. I don’t have one yet, but I’ll do something about that in the next few days. I also think if most cars have screens and a few drivers don’t, that the unprotected drivers will be prime targets for the scumbags
-
Other posters are saying the same thing but all a screen does is contain the potential virus in a smaller area making it more likely that the passenger will be more vulnerable from the previous customer or previous ten..Generally, our customers are a smart bunch. I think they know the screens are not there for them so I won't be in a hurry to get one.
If I had one I certainly wouldn't be cleaning it after every fare.
It's interesting that when Tesco and lidl and the petrol stations put up screens they didn't advertise it as a device to protect their customers. But taxi apps and despatch companies are treating the drivers like we have Ebola and telling the customers it's a feature..
Even the dickheads in the bunker in Freenow put up screens to protect themselves from incoming drivers but I'll bet they've no screens between their desks in the office.

A screen protects the passenger from you, also you are somewhat less likely to be a carrier than drivers who don't have a screen, so the environment the passengers find themselves in is similar to every other one they come across .... touch nothing and sanitise regularly whether or not you do touch anything, the driver/human contact is the main thing people need to distance themselves from, the screen helps in this regard. Having no screen increases the risk of person to person transfer in both directions
-
I understand that but you're creating a small box for the passenger to inhale whatever is in the air from the last passenger(s).
Have ya ever walked into a public toilet after someone else has dropped a big dept charge?Well the smell you're getting is the molecules of shite/fart that made into the air. Absolutely disgusting but I thought Daly would appreciate the comparison.
Anyway no screen for me unless mandated by the NTA I don't believe they're worth a whole lot TBH.

Many passengers will not want to interact with you, particularly given that you pay little or no heed to your own protection, they will believe you are more likely to be a carrier than a driver who takes more care to distance themselves from the virus
-
I reckon yous think our beloved passengers are as dumb as taxi drivers..some are but not all.
-
Separately.....It's sad that the first thing that posters thought of was having an advantage over their colleagues by having a bit of plastic in the car.Bunch of cunts.

so self employed taxi drivers are cunts for trying to get an advantage on their competitors. What a stupid comment. I for 1 didn't get into this job to make friends instead of money. Lads that drive around with disco lights in their vans, are they cunts as well?
-
Yeah you're another hunga who went ambassador to get an advantage then fukked off back to C2k because it got too expensive..Fukking jew bastards. No offence Billy.
-

They're human like the rest of us, you go into any shop/business that's reopening tomorrow and you'll see all of them have made alterations and changes to account for the new situation, we. just like every other business need to do the same and will be expected to do so, if you think you're returning to life as it was .... you're sorely mistaken

<snip>
I think there might be some truth in that. I've seen newspaper stories where they talk about the 'viral load'. If you just walk by an infected person, you might get a mild dose of the disease. But if you get a concentrated dose (like healthcare workers), it might affect you a lot more and be more serious clinically.
Maybe keeping a couple of windows open a crack might be better all round?

In the same way as we moaned about unnecessary safety kits,in a few months time we will be moaning about the unnecessary screens, that we installed in our cars, and by then it will be to late tou will have made it become, mandatory.rhe NTA will be delighted with you .you have made it mandatory to offer card facilities, you have made it mandatory to carry safety kits, its NEARLY mandatory to have to join a dispatch scum against the wishes of independents,
and NONE of you have given any thought toi.surance implications in the event of an accident after fitting these screens.I always find in this fukin industry, once a handful of drivers do something, the rest have to follow or we are fukked.
-
At least we know which erm is to blame this time.

When this virus is gone and the think tanks look at how it was handled and think of ways to be more prepared for a future pandemic, that’s the most likely time that screens will become mandatory
-
But korky ay the moment they are not mandatory, but F/N came up with this idea of fitting them, and because a handful of drivers opted to take up the offer, the public will now be very selective in which taxi to choose, and this is what I meant when I said the rest of us will be forced to get these fukin screens in,and we are fukked .ANOTHER expense on taxi drivers, brought about by a dispatcher, and taxi drivers
-
Well I will refrain from installing one --judging by some of the shit heaps I have seen them in ,punters would be safer walking !
Drivers with masks and gloves on--then moving them to smoke, eat or drink coffee then replacing them, they know F--All about contamination--saw one guy coughing into his gloved hand !
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh
-
There's absolutely nothing to to backup your statement Korky.
Screens do not help against virus particles suspended in the air.Other posters have been talking about screens as the answer too and I'm a bit confused now..This all started because a few installers in Dublin started trying to sell proper security screens as virus protection then others jumped on the idea including Freenow. Now yous took the idea like it was advice form the World health organisation.
I fukkin hate repeating myself but how are yis going to get three people who don't live in the same household to sit on the back seat and maintain social distancing?Nobody has figured that out and the screens aren't worth anything in that situation.
By the way the screens Robinsons taxi services are selling start at €350.Guess which ones the NTA will insist we buy? They won't be taking DIY jobs as legal.
I'm really enjoying the bit of time off.

I'd say before the years out we will have to get them fitted. Then make an appointment to get them checked and every year they will be part of the test, If they are scratched or marked it's a fail.
-
The only people allowed to sit beside each other are those from the same gaff.So unless you've got lots of small families moving around the screens are pointless.
If yer gonna allow one person from a group sit in the front why do you need a screen at all.

John.im Not stressing about any of it.im just making the point that this industry is becoming ever more expensive to stay in.if men dont do anything about it,then some will not survive.im just questioning why the unions are not showing much interest in protecting their members from this ever increasing costs.

They haven't got enough members, when are you joining up to tell them how it's done?
-
I wouldnt know how its done, nor would I dare to try to tell them.however I would be of the view that if % of their members are unhappy about a situation that effects them, then they should act on their behalf, but then again ,maybe their members are happy to keep handing out money I dunno
