Title: accept follow up job
Post by: Dr. Martin Gooter Bling on May 26, 2020, 03:06:31 am
The old app got an update there in the past few days and when you're nearing the passenger's destination the Accept Follow up job activates automatically and jobs come flooding in and taking over your screen so you can't see where you're going with your current passanger. You can't fucking disable it either. It used to be an option that you could go in to the settings and tick on and off if you wanted the accept follow up job offers.

On the old app the big issue was that it would zoom in to space when you were approaching the drop off but this is even worse. You're dropping in Raheny and the screen will pan over to Artane or Clontarf or Coolock or whereever letting you know about another fare, interfering with getting your current passanger to their destination smoothly. You ex that one and another comes in. You ex that one and another comes in etc etc. Your screen is bouncing all over the fucking kip.

I've also noticed that sometimes when you're busy exing all the follow up jobs that hijack your screen the app freezes you out when you go free again. It's like you're being punished for not accepting the follow up jobs. I was frozen out for an hour last Saturday night and half an hour on Sunday night. You can't negotiate the final stages of a passanger's drop off point undisturbed because your screen gets flooded with bollocks. Again you can't disable the follow up job offers anymore.

I mean who the fuck field tested this? Was there a driver survey I did'nt get to vote to replace the zooming in to outer space with an even worse flaw. For fffffffffffffffffffffffffffuck's sake. I don't wanna hear any dirt from scalymount about how it's all my fault or some bollocks either.

Simple solution is to turn the app off and wait for 10 minutes, after that wait another hour, then hit the delete app and your problem is solved and no more paying 15% to fleecenow.

I hope this helps.
Love and kisses
Tony.

Down here in Cork I'm not getting all the glitches that you are getting DMG, but still new glitches are now in place like the screen freezes when you are 100 meters from your pick up point, where before it mostly brought you to their door.

That's strange I've never had that freezing when you're approaching the destination problem. I've identified two other problems with the new update. When you press arrived the map oftens starts scrolling southwards at a fast rate for no reason. Also when it tells you a customer has cancelled a fare there is a blue button that says next. you press it and nothing happens. you have to sign in and sign out to go free again. can you still see the option to turn on/turn off the accept follow up jobs in your settings?

Yes, I turned Off the 'Automatic Follow on' feature the First day it was introduced and have never changed it back, but I do manually accept Follow on jobs if they are within reason.
As fer the Freezing thing, then maybe Freezing was a bit of an exaggeration, to explain it better, when I get to within 50 meters of my customers destination the Blue line disappears and you have to hit 'Arrived' and manually zoom in to get to the exact location.

Back in the day you got an address and when you got there had to use a torch to see the house numbers.
I'm only 11 years at this game but I remember starting off (No Sat Nav, No Google maps) and we had to use actual maps to find our destination.
A former base manager gave me an old Garnim Sat Nav about 2 years in to the job, it changed my life !

Here's a tip DMG turn off your automatic updates on your driver app.Wait a week or two before updating. They're always updating it but rarely ever improve it.The app was perfect years ago.

Yer probably just too busy though.

get up outta that.
when you're trying to nail down one particular gaff in artane you don't need the screening panning over to coolock, clontarf, donaghmede etc.

There is no doubt the app (with google maps) and the sat nav are very handy fer finding locations, I would know the vast majority of housing estates in Cork city but some of them could contain up to 500 homes and in the dark and rain it ain't much fun trying to find house numbers.
Fer those working street and rank only then they don't need google maps or a sat nav because their customers will know their own destination.

Well if I felt I didn't know my way around,I would get out of the game, and I dont rely in google maps,or sat nav

So you have picked up a customer off the street and they want to go to lets say 12 Park Dale in Parklands on the Commons road and the customer is meeting a friend there but doesen't know where the house is, it's dark and it's pissing rain. Now all Cork Taxi drivers know exactly where Parklands is but I haven't a clue which turn off is fer Park Dale in Parklands or where number 12 is, and that is where the sat nav comes in real handy.

I loved north county Dublin back in the day.
I still do but lusk, rush, swords, malahide, skerries, balbriggan etc. are way over built now with too many speed ramps that ruins the drive.
portmarnock is my favourite area but that's getting the spiv builder cardboard apartments treatment now.

I remember doing a job 10 years back when I first started with no sat nav or google maps.

The job was fer 3 farmers out to south Cork past the airport and they all pissed and dropping them all off at their homes/farms along country boreens with grass in the middle of the road.
After doing a few laps of South cork country roads to drop them all home, I was totally lost, so I got out of the cab, stood up on top of a ditch and saw the airport lights in the distance and I followed them lights all the way home.

God bless the Garmin sat nav, many a Pickle it got me out of.
