Title: Road changes
Post by: john m on June 06, 2020, 01:12:20 pm
College Green due to be closed to traffic .Talking to a Barman works Templebar he says plan to Pedestrianise ALL of Temple bar .If that happens then how do we service the area will we have to try do a u turn on Dame Street or do the South William Loop to head out of Town .

They probably just expect us to drop them off at Christchurch or Tara street or the quays.Templebar now has spilled over into South William and nearly out to Georges street.Tourists will walk the rest of the way even with their cases.

It was clear that they didn't really care about the elderly when they removed the Dawson rank.If you can't walk a kilometre or two Dublin city won't be a good place to go on yer hols or shopping.

Young lad on our road is a walker .Works with a courier company .Van pulls into loading bay and yer man collects the Parcels for delivery .Van driver working say South William Quarter so from Grafton to Georges street Dame street and Cuffe Street drives around until he finds a vacant loading bay then youngfella loads up and does the deliveries .then waits for next van if there is one he is only paid for the hours he works so sometimes only gets two hours a day .

It's a small enough area.Often you'd walk it faster than driving. If I'm ever out around Camden street/Harcourt it's only a short walk to the North quays to get a taxi when it was busy.

All the lights and one way systems make it seem bigger in the car.

Dublin businesses have been invited by Dublin City Council to apply for permission to put tables and chairs outside their premises, despite safety concerns on the part of disability groups.

A Covid-19 “mobility intervention programme” for the city published by the council and the National Transport Authority (NTA) in recent weeks proposed allowing businesses, particularly cafes and restaurants, to use outdoor space for customers, to enable them to reopen as coronavirus-related restrictions eased.

The council is now seeking applications from businesses “interested in expanding into the public realm” from June 29th.

They will do a deal with the Point Depot or the Corona Castle or whoever sponsors it in future and include a dollar a ticket when you buy a ticket and it will be free on the LUAS if you have a gig ticket .How many MMA or Darts fans do you think pay the fare on the Luas the Gotchies would have no chance trowing them off or charging anybody .

Unless the passenger can't walk I'll always dump them off at Ringsend pedestrian entrance to the East link.

If you get stuck on the North wall in Traffic there is always the chance the passengers might jump out and walk and potentially leave ya stranded in the gridlock with no customer.Happened once, never again.

The new founded cycling lobby group ( who have become quite militant in recent times ) want every street car and bus free.

They want EVERYONE to travel by bike.

They're right though.Too many cars everywhere. We're all getting fatter every year.Too reliant on four wheel transport.

Dublin city is for the tourists. As the city grows the pedestrianised areas will also grow.We will get fukked out no doubt.

In thirty years most of it will be pedestrianised between the canals.

Surely bicycles present an ideal way to avoid using virus infested taxis, buses, trains, luaseyeses. Investment in promoting cycling, particularly as a healthy alternative to taxis or lifts, is a no-brainer. Obviously, infrastructure should be altered wherever possible to give bicycles priority over vehicular traffic.

I presume you're part of this militant lobby given that you told us "There is no justification for the few [taximen] that are presently working. In my opinion they are putting their lives and the lives of their passengers at risk" in another thread.

Cyclists generally don't find a whole lot of support around here so don't expect an easy ride... Welcome aboard.
