Title: Best alternative to Free Now?
Post by: taxi1990 on June 07, 2020, 01:27:25 pm
I sometimes go out in Dublin with friends of mine who live there. when getting a taxi to go to the gig or pub etc my friends nearly always order a taxi from Free Now. What is the best alternative to using them? id rather not support them and we prefer calling a taxi to flagging one down in the street on  a Friday or Saturday night as it seems impossible to get one that way.

we would usually be looking for a taxi from 9 to 10.

what are the apps that take 15% commission and are there ones that are owed by Drivers?

If your living off the main roads or in the middle of a housing estate then the app is the best way to get a cab .

what app? apart from Free Now?

S'pose other than the traditional dispatchers that have an app....Lynk?.....C2K(Swords/northside) had an app, don't know if it's still being used,

FN have captured work from everywhere so are probably the most reliable and quicker to arrive if you're in a hurry.

Will try lynx the next time, see what they are like.

If traditional dispatchers had have gone the route of the app back in 2012 before Hailo we'd probably be still complaining but probably have more than one app, might have been some competition or they could and probably would have been as bad as FN are today.

The drivers are independent.
You have never worked a dispatch company so why all the grief towards them.

The drivers are and my bollox independent.the drivers who work with these companies are told what to wear ( uniforms) which they must pay for, they are told what to charge ( discounts ) offered at their expense, they are disciplined for steping out of line by being knocked off the system.they are only short of having to clock in and out.next they will have to book their fukin holidays in advance its quite laughable really rhat people who are supposed to be self employed allow themselves to be treated this way

I wouldn't chat Dublin birds up. usually stick to culchies like myself.  ::)

I would put my hand out if I thought I would get a taxi passing by, but it has always seemed a very hard thing to achieve in Dublin on Friday or Saturday night from 9 to 10.

Hey Billy....what's the craic with C2K and €65 per week freight or €1 per job overflow work as per Italia 90's post?
you have 2 options. 1st option is €65 a week and hour called an ambassador driver. Its just means you work away as normal by working the plots and you can see the bookings and you can do as many jobs as you like off the system. Option 2 is €1 a job but the lads paying the 65 will be offered all the work first. You will be an overflow driver. So you will get a job if there is no ambassador driver in the area. Its looks anto will do will out of this. He has got a good few new drivers from dial a cab and a few drivers that work the Kesh have signed up for the €1 a job option.... And dalymount... Your an ass...

they are ck2 hotels, so stay away... Anto and his employees own the work that comes out of them... What do you not understand about that? If you want I can put a good word in for you with Anthony and he might give you a job. Think about it.

well dalymount, have you ever heard the true story about a bullet been sent to the ck2 office on swords main street when they got the burlo. It was sent from the INDEPENDENT taxi drivers on the burlo rank outside the hotel. But I'm sure that's OK because it came from INDEPENDENT taxi drivers that think they own the burlo.

Well my recolection of the burlo was that Kelly just arrived up there and took over the car park inspite of the fact that there was an established rank outside the place since before Kelly was even in the game.Fullerton came up with a letter making it clear to him that his drivers were standing for hire ILLEGALLY because that was not an official taxi rank in line with legislation.I believe nothing has changed in that regard, they are STILL standing for hire illegally

I know down here the co-ops pay up to 10 grand a year for a busy Hotel contract, I'd say it's the same over there.

All Taxi drivers have different methods of working and I respect every other drivers work choice because if'n it wasn't working fer them then they wouldn't be doing it !

Some drivers fer what ever reason dislike all dispatchers and Apps and only work street or rank.
Some drivers work loyally with their dispatcher only, while others work Dispatch and App.
Some drivers (myself included these Covid nights) work mostly App and street or Rank.
Others like Roy have their own gig on the go or a Schoolie to keep them busy.

Everyone has their own way of doing things and I respect them all, the only One that bugs me is the Rentee who pays 10 to 15K a year in Rent when the cab only costs about 5K a year to maintain making the Renter who does little to nothing except organising the few tests and repairs about 150 a week.
