So there are mixed messages coming from the Government.
They are saying that there is no consensus on the wearing of masks, yet the WHO (obviously not the band) are saying that people should wear them indoors and on public transport.
Our Gov are only advising people to do so.
In other European countries, they are insisting people wear them at all times. In fact, most Euro countries are giving masks out free, or shops to sell them a maximum charge of 50 cent.
According to a report tonight, Aer Lingus are insisting that all passengers must wear masks whilst on board. AirCoach have reduced the capacity of the coaches ( due to social distancing) from 49 seats to only allowing 11 people to be on the coach at any one time.
If,their driver has to help with luggage,he/she must wear gloves and be wearing a mask also.
So,"when" we are all back working (especially airport drivers) should we all insist that passengers wear a mask otherwise we can refuse them.
Afterall, this is about everyones safety. If plane companies insist on it, why shouldn't we.

Well you simply cannot practice social distancing in the confines of a car, the 2 meter rule doesn't work.
Before we went into lockdown I was actually on numerous radio stations making this point and both presenters and other members of the public agreed with me.
There is no justification for the few that are presently working. In my opinion they are putting their lives and the lives of their passengers at risk
I work the port mainly and stopped working early March because of the possible risks involved. I didn't know who was getting into the car. Within a few days as it happened, we went into lockdown.

She makes a lot of sense, however I reckon it's for people like her that the ridiculous rules are required in that she would be foolhardy without them, most of us at this stage know what is safe and what isn't without the need for arrows and spots

Well said, you have effectively re enforced my point. I think we can all agree that most taxi drivers get more colds, flus, chest infections,given the nature of our job and the close proximity we are to passengers.
The covid19 virus is still an unknown entity and is extremely contagious. Only this morning I read that experts are still learning about it and the effect it is having on people.
Even those who got mild symptoms are possibly facing long term complications that involve lungs,heart,kidneys,blood vessels or the brain.
Whilst we are beginning to slowly open up the economy, the virus hasnt gone away you know.

Thanks, I would never claim to be an expert in virology.
What is recommended though is that cloth face coverings in public settings should be worn where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain i.e. in a taxi.
Whilst face mask dont provided 100% protection, the recommendations are that we should social distance and wash our hands on a regular basis.

If you cannot survive on 350 a week but insist on going to work then wear a mask if you feel at risk.Drivers have been wearing masks since mid March.It's not a big problem.
By the time the lads on 350 have come off their holidays in August, there's a good chance the numbers will have decreased significantly or be so low that they're insignificant.
By the way I've no intention of wearing a mask or putting a screen In my beautiful Prius.I won't be back until at least August.Longest Christmas holidays ever..

Already your smartphone knows if it's in close proximity to other people for any amount of time.

They are saving lives. My own father couldn't be discharged from Beaumont Hospital unless he went to the CRC and the only way HSE would allow that transfer was by taxi. I was listening to Joe Duffy a while back and two ladies told of their gratitude to our colleagues/competitors who continue to provide a service. In both cases their husbands were on their death beds and they would not have got to see them if taxis were not available. Then there's the countless other essential workers they transport safely, folk who may otherwise have to take their chances on buses, trains or luaseyeses.

Going forward all public transport customers ought to be encouraged to walk or cycle wherever possible. I know there are plans to invest in the promotion and facilitation of cycling... obviously, regardless of the impact it will have on our trade, that is a good thing in the context of the greater good. Should there be a second wave or, worse still, a COVID '20 to follow the less essential we are the better.

Apart from retired Taxi drivers were there any casualties among present ACTIVE drivers ?Im not working because I cant see 350 a week after costs at the moment If some of the fucktards that think they represent this industry had an IQ above 6 they would be looking at the Child minding sector who recieved 75 million in grants to help them back to work .They should be looking for grants for us to provide a service that like childminding allows others to return to work .

Surely investment would be better directed at promoting safer, healthier, environmentally friendlier alternatives such as cycling and walking. The less essential rideshare and/or taxis are going forward the better, right?

If you are standing face to face with someone who has the virus and they cough in your general direction you are relatively safe if 2 meters away.
If You're standing face to face and someone coughs in your direction the risk is increased.
If you touch something that someone with covid has coughed on the risk is high (wash your hands)
So if you have your back to someone risk is reduced (taxi)
If you are beside someone risk is reduced (taxi)
If you sanitise regularly risk is reduced
If you have a screen between you and others the risk is reduced
This isn't science .... it's just common sense
We can do a lot to reduce ours and others risk

There are a good few more mask wearers in my local Tesco.If they want people to wear masks they need to provide them for free or it will be ignored.Chemists are charging €2 for the disposable ones that are meant to be changed every few hours.I can't see anyone spending €6 day when they don't believe it's necessary.

I think Dr. Leo and Dr. Tony said we should wear them in shops and on public transport. I'm never on public transport and with Mrs. Catcher supposedly working from home I don't even go shopping a whole lot. I think it's about three weeks since I last went into a shop of any kind.

I had one of them black internet masks on last night .....in Tescos.Had to bend down to get something and when I stood up I couldnt breath through the mask..Fookin nearly passed out.....Im tellin you ...Them masks are bad for your health
