So lockdown is being eased and people are moving about but will they want or use Taxies .Is there a weeks wages to be earned if we all go back ?Will it recover enough to take us all back ?
-
So what are your thoughts .Looking at BnQ and Pennys people are chomping at the Bit to get back out .Will it be Boom time for our industry or quiet .I really dont know .Think there might be a bit of Business from the HSE they wont want children with special needs sharing busses or coaches on the way to school ,Same with some community based projects .There could be plenty of different types of jobs available .
-
Options 3,4 and 5,
I don't think business will resume enough to sustain the number of taxis, there won't be any gigs, festivals and fuk knows what nightlife will be like....unless of course if it's all a load of bollox!!
-
Well I would willingly sacrifice it all just to see dispatchers going out of business, but it looks like all the cunts have survived .I have not heard og one of them being in trouble unfortunately
-
Drove into guineys yesterday for socks and jocks
1 car on Aston
1 car on foster
No car on sackville

looks like ck2 will have more drivers than they did before lockdown. A lot of new drivers have joined in the last few weeks. And I heard a lot of lads signed up for the overflow driver.

Former AIB chief executive and one-time Aer Lingus chairman Tom Mulcahy is permanently closing the landmark Queen’s pub in Dalkey and is believed to be preparing the asset to be put up for sale.
All staff at the south Dublin pub received a letter on Friday morning from Mr Mulcahy to tell them the pub “will not reopen and has ceased trading” and that they will be made redundant on statutory terms. The staff had been laid off since March 16th as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.
The pub is majority-controlled by Mr Mulcahy and his family, with a minority stake held by his business partner, Gerry O’Farrell, who is also involved in the Smokin’ Bones restaurants in Dublin. The owners paid an estimated €7 million for the Queen’s in 2003.
“We have had 17 wonderful years of engagement with The Queens. It leaves us with a huge sense of loss on the closure. The Covid cocooning gave us time for reflection. We realised that our time for retirement had arrived,” said Mr Mulcahy, speaking on behalf of himself and his wife, June.

No sitting at the bar is gonna reduce their customer base considerably. Some older folks don't like using cards or getting table service.
Many pubs are just a bar and a few stools they're not gonna be opening for a good while yet.Too small to be viable.

Thats the Unknown How many places wont reopen and what effect will that have on our business .If Coppers dosent reopen then The Harcourt Area will suffer big time .Will we see a return to staying Local .

Plenty of nobheads everywhere.Night drivers on the day shift won't make things any easier.Tourism massively down too. It's hard to be positive.Just be thankful yis don't have massive debts to service.Life could be a lot worse.

Back to the 80s, dinner parties will be a thing again, anyone wanna buy a hostess trolley?

+1 You are correct, collected a few older people groups from just that for the first time last night. More groups of 4 now also. Pain in the hole listening to them trying to get the seat belts on, with all the tired associated sexual innuendo remarks, and drunken laughing therein

In my yoke, the middle belt receiver lies flat under the pax's bum. It goes on forever, with the middle pax plugging in to the pax on her right, in, out, in again... and the dash keeps showing that the middle belt is undone, might as well be talkin' to the wall.

From the Programme for government
Details filtering out this evening include plans for a jobs stimulus plan in July and a National Recovery Plan in October in a bid to speed recovery from the massive economic hit caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
The jobs stimulus plan will be focused on measures to help the hospitality sector and small and medium enterprises and has been pushed by both Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil.

I was thinking of going back maybe the start of July (Phase 3) or when they reduce the 2 metre rule to 1. But we might not be able to go back...
Coronavirus outbreaks in private houses more than treble in one week (https://www.irishtimes.com/news/health/coronavirus-outbreaks-in-private-houses-more-than-treble-in-one-week-1.4278836) (Irish Times)
The number of outbreaks of coronavirus in private houses has more than trebled in the space of a week, new figures show.
By Thursday, there were 240 clusters of the disease, also known as Covid-19, in private houses, according to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC), a number exceeded only by the 251 clusters recorded in nursing homes. The increase has prompted the HPSC to resume counting outbreaks in private houses as a separate category. A week earlier, it had recorded 266 outbreaks in “other” locations, which included private houses, community, pubs, hotels, shops, etc. By Thursday, there were 240 clusters in private houses and another 80 in the “other” category.
Public health officials warned last week the virus was moving into household settings, though the overall number of cases continues to drop.
<snip> Meanwhile, the average number of close contacts per confirmed case of Covid-19 has increased to six, twice the level seen throughout May, data from the Health Service Executive (HSE) shows.
The virus numbers could start going back up again?
There's no rush to go back. I'm reading more and more opinion pieces about how the world economy is fukked & next year will be worse. The American recession back in 2008 (?) was basically caused by dodgy house mortgages. Now it's dodgy commercial mortgages and loans that could collapse the banking system again. Also, the UK could end up the worst-hit economy in Europe and after Brexit, they could end up using WTO rules (bit tariffs). They're our biggest trading partner and our agriculture industry and others could collapse if they can't export to the UK. Maybe the erm is right and it's time to get a gun.
-
I said all along Leo set it up for an Election We need to wait 3 weeks after Pennys opens .I wouldnt be sure there will be a government or if it will last .But my old Friend BREXIT will murder the heads off of us .My Hen is in Britain this weekend to Bury her mother .When she returns she must isolate for two weeks then get clearance to go back to work . Now there is a bit of cuntology involved in this as we are supposed to have free movement between Ireland and the UK but the IRISH government introduced this rule .If you think for one minute the Brits are going to make it easy for us after Brexit you have another thing comming .Cummins and Boris will blame Ireland and the Border for all the UKs problems after Brexit ,The EU wont be our mates either .If you want to know how bad its going to be look at the most successfull political party in Europe at the moment SF who have grown from no TD 20 years ago to the brink of government they have made no attempt to grab power or even get into coalition .I posted on here a few years ago You will see British Troops ordered on to the Streets of Britain to Shoot British Citizens and this time it wont be in Belfast .
-
Barbecues and dinner parties all the way. Might be a good thing but I suspect the pubs will be open sooner than currently scheduled.

Going back July 1 regardless of what's on offer
-
From 29 June 2020, the rate of COVID-19 Pandemic Unemployment Payment will be linked to your earnings. You do not need to contact the DEASP about your earnings. The DEASP has access to this information from Revenue.
If you were earning €200 or more per week, you will continue to get a payment of €350 per week.
If you were earning €199.99 or less per week, you will get a COVID-19 Pandemic Unemployment Payment of €203 per week. You will get paid this new rate on Tuesday, 7 July 2020.
Employee earnings assessment from 29 June 2020:
If you are an employee, your average gross weekly earnings in 2019 and in January and February 2020 will be examined and the higher figure will be used.
For example, if your average gross weekly earnings was €195 in 2019 and €210 in 2020, the figure of €210 will be used. Similarly, if your average gross weekly earnings in 2019 was higher than in 2020, the 2019 figure will be used.
Self-employment earnings assessment from 29 June 2020:
If you are self-employed, your average weekly income in 2018 will be used to decide your rate of payment.
I'm going back to work on the 1st July and intend signing off Covid payment on the 30th, therefore I'll get paid the PUP on the 30th.
Will I owe the €350 back (is the payment for the week ahead) or are we paid for the previous week and can therefore keep the €350????
-
I reckon the money is paid for the week gone past so you should be able to keep it. Open to correction though.
-
The Covid money is paid Fri to Thursday. If you have one day worked in the sign off week, you get another 350.
-
In advance?
-
Money's paid on Tuesday for up to previous Thursday. If you sign off on the next Monday, you'll get an extra payment the next Day.
-
Up to previous Thursday or Friday? Either way it doesn't make sense to make "emergency" payments on an accruals basis. Surely the basic concept is that recipients need the money to live.
-
The way things are going it looks like Taxi drivers will be the only ones not fully back to work July 1
-
Govt should be investing a lot more in safer, healthier, environmentally friendlier alternatives. Maybe a 36% health levy on taxi fares?
-
Why not go the whole way and make it 50% like F,N
-
50% was discount. I'm suggesting a levy aimed at reducing reliance on taxis with a view to eliminating said reliance in accordance with the trade's own belief that it should not be an essential form of public transport. A 50% (if you like) health levy would help push the sector to a luxury/discretionary position as desired by many taxi drivers and dispatchers.
-
On the first day Pennys reopened over 9000 million girls from the flats stood outside for nearly 24 hours waiting to get knickers and Pyjamas .In town yesterday no que for pennys or any other shop .I wonder will it be the same when the Porter Shops reopen everybody charge down for beer in a glass for the first few days then think fuck this im not a Goldfish drinking behind plastic screens .
-
Reservations only until the wet pubs open.If I have to queue to get into a pub I'll give it a miss.I'm not 17 anymore.
-
Punters probably won't bother goin to the pub as the experience of listening to Ermy waffling on with a pint in one hand a betting slip in the other and a copy of the Sun in his arse pocket while he shouts at the telly while watching C4 Racing......just won't be the same!!
-
I just can't see the rules being adhered to after 5/6 drinks.I also can't see the barman ejecting customers because they won't socially distance.
The future is more shorter lockdowns.
-
I reckon they'll be handing out those "your food is ready" devices that vibrate and light up when you enter....after 90mins....gerrout!!
-
You'll get folks booking two slots under different names until the wet pubs open.
-

You can drink 5-6 pints in 105 minutes?
-
I can but it's ugly so I don't anymore.I know couples who could easily finish two bottles of wine in 105 minutes.
Some people will see it as a challenge.
I don't think the time limit applies to the wet pubs opening.Or does it?
-
I think the reputation we have as a nation of drinkers is richly deserved.we let ourselves down sometimes
-
Agreed, DM. FFS... get in that queue, MfH... and when you've swallowed 14 pints off stout in 103 minutes get yourself a big stick for to beat the wife with. Our culture is on the line.
-
Rat.do you realize you actually agreed with me on something ? Rhe erm did a week ago on something else, and im still worried about it
-
You'll get folks booking two slots under different names until the wet pubs open.
Would you be bothered, I think you'd still have to vacate your table after the 1st booking for the cleansing of the area.
-
Me no I wouldn't bother but if some pubs aren't as busy they won't be asking anyone to leave after 105 mins. The rules will be bent and ignored until the next wave.People are fed up and want their lives back.
-

If Pubs return to type and become venues to gather and get drunk, they'll be shut down under current regulations, they've been allowed open as restaurants
-
Fibbers will never be the same again!!
-
SO WHO THINKS ITS SAFE TO GO BACK TO WORK DRIVING MULTIPLE PASSENGERS PER DAY .....I dont .If the Covid coin lasts till August im staying put where I am or looking for a job where I dont meet the public .

They are an inclusive welcoming club, whos jerseys state "refugees welcome" and whose logo this past month is emblazoned with the Pride colours, in support of LGBTQ people.
They are everything you're not.

Im 32 years a full member of the club.in well aware where the club are in that regard.all of these left wing policys are largely the work of one man Daniel Lambert.he took the club down this road, but it wont last.there is a move within the membership to dispense with this liberal crap.as for refugees welcome, they are welcome as far as im concerned, but I do have reservations about ANY football club expressing this.I believe its a politicial statement, and NOT something that a football club should be engaging in.btw Justin,my post in relation to the job offer was aimed at the erm,and not you

As one who has supported Bohs far longer than your mere "32yrs", Ive socks older than that.
Being a welcoming club for all regardless of race creed or sexuality is progressive and correct, that wont change despite your warped views.
I keep telling you, your feared "liberalism" is giving you the ability to be doing what you are doing right now.
You dont get it.
Happy Pride.

Oh and btw you seem to make a habit of NOT reading my post correctly.I said refugees ARE welcome as far as im concerned,I just dont think a football club should be engaging in that kind of rhetoric because it can be a very decisive topic which could actually loose members for the club.as I said there is an element within the club who would not be in agreement with some of the policys, and I for one dont want to see them leave because of it.this kind od politics should be left to the piliticians

First day back, I thought I'd be thinking "I could be at home earning €350 a week for doing nothing", turns out ........ I like driving a taxi and am confident enough in the preventative steps i'm taking regarding Covid.
I guess that's the moral of this story, if you don't like the job, you really shouldn't be doing it.
-
Fair play. It's working I don't like not the taxi driving. That's just boring.
In a way our whole industry is being propped up by the Covid cash.Without us on standby working drivers would be less busy.Everyone wins this way.

Dr Tony Holohan said: "We are starting to see a worrying trend, with the number of reported cases increasing, and some new clusters."
AS I SAID WAIT TILL PENNYS IS OPEN TWO WEEKS .

Did you consider the machine thing BS posted?
I looked at it, bit OTT and there is no lasting effect, you still have to assume surfaces may be contaminated after one passenger.
I reckon Taxi drivers might get away with claiming circa €150, however some believe you can claim for all sorts of shit and a grand is chicken feed
-

Interesting that you know about the Quays.

Just read that 6 new cases were the result of International travel.
Keshie drivers, need to be extra careful. Drivers are one of the first port of call for airport passengers.
-
It'll be tough for the keshies. The longer a passenger is in your taxi, the more likely you are to get infected. Will they continue to take the scenic route into town or go the shorter way? lol

If you're looking to get a grand, maybe a digital thermometer to take your temperature each morning to make sure you're not diseased before you start working?
I've seen plenty of doctors/nurses on TV say they take off their work clothes and shower the minute they get home after working. Maybe you need a few work uniforms that are separate from your home clothes? And a months supply of shampoo/soap etc for that shower. Maybe a new phone/tablet because your kid watches Youtube on your potentially infected phone when you get home?
-
Mmm, temperature check doesn't "make sure" that you haven't got the pox, it just tells you that you haven't got a high temperature.
-
You can get them yokes in Lidl for a score. It has a laser thing on it.Dont blind the passengers if you're gonna be using one.Not good for the oul CV.
Now a thermal imaging camera that would be about 400.Handy for all your DIY projects during the second lockdown..
-
If you're looking to get a grand, maybe a digital thermometer to take your temperature each morning to make sure you're not diseased before you start working?

Since when are we allowed to shower, "wash your hands" is all HSE and Joe Duffy (miseryguts ont wireless, not motor dealer) have advised during the last few months.
I was gonna get my timing belt done... main dealer should be at least 4 ton, maybe they'll do me a receipt for 9?

Here is why they wont want the streets over run with taxies ....Chief medical officer Dr Tony Holohan has expressed concern over a "worrying trend" of rising Covid-19 cases and travel-related clusters.
The National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) has confirmed that, although there have been no further Covid-19 deaths, there were 24 additional cases in the previous 24 hours.
At least six of these new cases are associated with international travel. NPHET is now testing the contacts of these cases and warns that there may be further associated cases in the coming days.
Amid concerns about travel-linked instances of new Covid-19 diagnoses, Dr Holohan said he is "very concerned" about new cases being imported from abroad and pointed out that there has been a new travel-related cluster in the north west of the country as a result of people returning to Ireland from Iraq:
Many of the places that would be usual destinations for all of us in the summer time are having ongoing challenges with this infection. That will lead to further infection being reimported to this country and, for that reason, we are genuinely very concerned about that. We would like people not to travel.
The chief medical officer also expressed concern that the number of contacts for some of the people recently diagnosed with Covid-19 has been "quite large" and that authorities have had to test in excess of 20 people in some instances in relation to individual cases: "That's a very different situation to back in April where there was a much larger number of cases but the average number of contacts for each of the cases that we were picking up was two to three."
"It would have been very unusual to pick up a single case with more than 20 contacts unless there was something very unusual about it but we are starting to see some of those kinds of patterns," he said.
Imagine a taxi driver with the disease picking up 10 passengers a day for a few days each of those passengers mixes with other people who mix with other people how would they trace the contacts .For those wondering if your Covit Coin will be cut I doubt it until they have better treacability .

What steps are you taking?
FN screen
Medical Masks
Hand sanitiser
Disinfectant Aerosol
Disinfectant wipes
Good ventilation
Fair Dinkum to you fer going back to work Roy,
tell me on a scale of 1 to 10 how were your earning today as compared to pre Covid times ?
-
I hope ye did'nt sign off the 350 because it's gone dirt the past three weeks.
The past 2 weeks have been tough with a lot of drivers returning to work, but last night was good and there was a few street hails around as the pub/res kinda re opened which I haven't seen since the Lockdown began.
-
Surely the HSE have learned something about the virus, major factor in slowing/stopping it was Lockdown.
Anybody who wants to come into this country(incl people who have gone on Holidays/Business) should be sent to an isolation facility (somewhere) otherwise it's bring it on Covid 20.

Have you read the instructions for isolate .You must inform the Government where you will self isolate .(If you experience any of the symptoms ) there is really no self isolation required more window dressing . Remember the Aids epidemic they told us to put it in a bag but never gave us free bags ,Wear facemasks but never provide them ,Isolate but dont supply isolation units .Its the Politics of we told you so .

If we don't open up soon and quit with this quarantine crap and instead use the same prevention systems that other countries are using, Ireland will be saying to the rest of the world that we're closed for business and closed for tourism, not very good for Ireland or it's population.
-
What if when you came into Ireland you had to go to the pub and get something to eat like the natives would that work .
-
Im still trying to decide when to go back to work. pubs reopen on 20th of July, so the Friday night after that might be the first busy night. That weekend might be very busy. And work during the week mightn't be too bad at that stage. or will I sit back and take the guaranteed 350 with no running costs.
-
If tourists fly into Belfast would that bypass the quarantine for the republic of Ireland? they can then travel south.
-

I don't know what you mean , there are lot's of places to have a meal

Do yis not watch the news from other countries? There is only one way this is going and that's back into lockdown after a few outbreaks.
Unless of course there's a change in government policy whereby they allow the virus to run rampant and see what happens just like in Sweeden.

People are under the false illusion that the Covid has gone away or theres nothing to be worried about.
WRONG.
The WHO has said that we havnt seen the worst of it yet,the worst is yet to come.
You can see people in your own supermarkets (if you do the shopping that is) walking around without a care in the world, no social distancing, no face covering.
Look at america, its a shitstorm, cases rises faster than you could drive back to the airport if youre on a short, The UK is the same, Leicester is in lockdown now. Wait a week or two and you will see the same in Bournemount and Liverpool.
We hvtn hit the flu season yet, thats all ahead of us, and just last night there were reports that another flu like virus in pigs was detected in China that has the potential to cross over to humans and cause a pandemic.
Well thats all my good news for the day.
Happy Belated Pride (especially to Dalymount )

we have to live with it
and possibly die with it

Roy what I mean is they dont have a fucking clue they make it up as they go .Pubs that dont sell food must stay closed but pubs that sell food can stay open .So food must be some sort of Covid antibiotic .You can go into the barber and he will get close enough to nip your nose hair yet you cant go into a bookies .

When you go to the barbers (if you have hair that is) , you must wear a mask and in some places wear gloves.
The barber wears a mask, gloves and a plastic apron. Its all very high tech now!

no matter where you go in the world you're going to find changes and restrictions.
Restaurants where allowed to open and Pubs started calling themselves restaurants, unlike Taxi drivers they want to reopen their business
You cannot get your hair cut online but you can place a bet, there's generally a logic to it

Ah no I'm not thinking about myself getting paid forever.Policy changes will wean us all off.
It's just the attitude on here towards the NTA/NCT staff who are working from home still. The expectation that there will be tourists this year or that we might be able to travel to Spain for a week.Or that we will be busy with a full fleet back on the road. Some on here are totally disconnected to the reality of a Global pandemic and the longterm economic damage that results from it.
Ireland doesn't have a magic pill. This will go on for a couple of years.
-
Roy the average taxi driver is nothing like the average publican or restaurant owner. Most of us came into this industry to get by and make a bit for a holiday or two.The pub owners and restaurant guys are of a particular mindset. They wanna be wealthy. They can't afford to lock up a premises with massive rents. We own our shit and can take our time. It's the only money I can make more next year. If I take a year off I can come back without any real consequences.

None of that matters, it's gone ... we're saved!

Easy to understand how Trump got elected when Americans bought that guy a new Lear jet. Heard that he goes to Mount Mellary every year also.

The pandemic unemployment payment and wage subsidy scheme will be "fine-tuned" as part of a major jobs stimulus package.
Newly elected Taoiseach Micheál Martin said the two welfare supports introduced during the Covid-19 Emergency will be more "targeted" towards sectors most impacted by the crisis.
Mr Martin said there was a "very comprehensive response" from the previous government to the Covid crisis through the pandemic payment and the wage subsidy scheme.
He added: "You will see a fine-tuning of that and a targeting of that to the sectors that give a response, and there will have to be a very careful evaluation of existing schemes that are working."
Tánaiste Leo Varadkar warned of "mass unemployment" and "mass insolvency" if the Government did not act quick.
It came as the Government agreed to establish a Cabinet committee to develop an economic recovery plan which will address the fallout from the Covid-19 pandemic.
The leaders of the three Government parties will sit on the new committee along with the finance and public expenditure ministers.
Mr Martin said the committee will "very quickly" draft a stimulus package which will create jobs for people who have been impacted by the national health emergency.
The new Taoiseach said legislation will be needed to underpin the measures they hope to enact within the coming months.
Mr Martin said he will ask departments to identify "shovel ready" projects which will lead to job creation.
Mr Varadkar said young people and those working in the private sector have been the worst impacted by the virus and said the Government will look to provide opportunities to allow them return to work.
"It is a matter of real concern for the Government that there are still 900,000 people either on employment payments or the wage subsidy scheme," Mr Varadkar said. "There's an enormous inequality, I believe, opening up where the young people are much more affected than older people, and people in the private sector are much more affected than people in the public sector," he added.
Climate Minister Eamon Ryan said the Government will "hit the ground running" to get the country back working again.
Mr Ryan said there is already a good relationship between the three parties and said he is "confident" they will work well together.
"We need to be quick, we need to be collective and we need to start digging the country out of a very difficult situation," Mr Ryan said.
He also urged people to spend their holidays in Ireland this year to help put more money into the domestic economy.
The July Jobs Initiative will be centred on a Recovery Fund, to support the economy and help restore employment to the end of 2020.
The July Stimulus package aims to create 200,000 new jobs by 2025 and it will focus on giving State supports to SMEs, large companies and the self-employed.
It will also include setting out a clear path for unwinding the pandemic unemployment payment and the wage subsidy scheme for businesses.
The Government will also establish taskforces for sectors most impacted by job losses, such as the tourism and hospitality industries.
A group involving businesses and State agencies will be separtely tasked with finding solutions to the financial problems facing small business owners,
There will also be a "high-level review" of the economy led by the Department of the Taoiseach to identify the sectors that have the greatest opportunity to grow and sustain quality employment in light of the continuing public health crisis.
It will also examine the geo-political trends, and the long-term challenges of the climate crisis, technological disruption and future public health challenges.
The Government will also move to enact legislation for the introduction of a new €2bn Credit Guarantee Scheme, SURE scheme, and the warehousing of tax liabilities. There will be a review of the Business Restart Grant and further grant supports for SMEs will be considered.
MicroFinance Ireland will be beefed up so it can support greater numbers of small businesses and start-ups in accessing finance.
They will also review how funding from European Investment Bank can be utilised and other opportunities for external investment.
The long-term goal of the scheme is to get people back to work and ensure businesses can operate as they did before the nationwide public health emergency.

I don't think we will necessarily go back into lockdown because other countries are, especially the Brits. We are an Island and completely different from the British, don't pass any heed to what they are doing, they behave as if they are superior to the likes of us, that is what gets them in trouble. We have a very passive sedate population who are better at following rules. We will bounce back a lot stronger than them.

Relax lads....the NTA will look after us!!

That is a good mind set to have in times like this, we can let the other countries worry themselves to death, we know it will be ok in the end.
We need people out spending money, not locked up at home. The English on the other hand are stupid, even their politicians cant even stick to the lockdown rules for a few weeks. They voted for Brexit, even if they had the same population as us id say they would still be having a worse time with the virus than us.
