People claiming the Covid-19 unemployment benefit are risking the prospect of big repayments if they work even a couple of hours a week.
Concerns have been raised that some recipients may not realise they must close their claim, even if not working full-time.
This may apply to part-time or self-employed workers who return to work on reduced hours, or are contracted to carry out individual projects.
-
When Brige or Orlath do the review of payments some lads that worked and claimed will get big demands for repayments .I heard some Pubs doing take awats have been visited by revenue taking names of staff that were working .
-
I know a few Double Jobbers got the Covid payment from their Main Employment but still drove their Taxi .If Free Now are audited there might be some huge demands for repayments .

Well hopefully they are audited Johnny
-
Think there might of been some misunderstanding about payments but it was clear to me .If you got the PUP you had to be AVAILABLE to take up work .How could you be available to work if you were already working ?
-
If free now gave ther figures to the taxman ...I imagine the licky lackys would have removed ther stickers....how much tax would you be paining on 100k a year ?

Seemingly the Revenue have already been on to FN looking fer a list of drivers working.
Revenue can easily cross check with those FN drivers working and claiming the 350 Covid.
-
Id be surprised if they have been in touch with FN,but I suppose they could have been

same rumour going around about ck2 today... Its hard to believe

I'm sure the same applies to any cab company. Most of whom are only doing account work. Those payments have to be paid into a bank account.
Revenue is not stupid and will share information with the Department of Social Welfare.

No need to share I think Revenue are responsible for the Payments .They will just press a Button and get a printout .
-
we're up to 119 drivers caught working and claiming in finglas now.

The COVID payment came from the Department of social protection.
Being reimbursed may be the remit of Revenue.

Cant rememebr now, but did we give our PPS numbers to Hailo/Mytaxi/FN when we started ?
I would imagine that is the only way they would do a cross check

if the Gardai can do a financial background on you, Revenue - of which the Gardai are a branch - certainly can.

I'd say there is a lot of worried/sweaty drivers out there so ::fds

Thats exactly the job my mate does, when a STR is generated ( suspicious transaction report) its his job to look at bank accounts, and other things.he never tells me much about about it,but he did tell me there are a huge amount of taxi drivers under investigation at the moment, and it is not just to do with covid payments either

Not exactly, investigating STRs has more to do with money laundering and criminal activity
-
My Sister-in-law works for Dept of Finance (i think), anyways part of her job is to investigate suspected money laundering.
She visits garages, bookies etc and asks/demands to see the books , cant get away with a lot of cash these days you know.
-
A group of cream crackers in balinasloe were apperently involved in a covid scam worth 5 million.I dont how they did it,but it seems a large number of them were claiming up to 5 or 6 covid payments a week each using false documentation, names etc
-
Luckily we don't charge VAT, as this is the main reason for an audit.
Lifestyle is what will get you snookered if you misbehave as a taxi driver
Taxi drivers believe they earn good money because of the takings, when you deduct what's paid out the pittance that's left doesn't really interest revenue
-
Someone asked if Freenow have our PPS numbers and I can't remember. But the NTA definitely have it so welfare/revenue could easily cross-reference if they were bothered.

How would the NTA know if guys claiming the Covid Rent were out working ?

I saw them taking a taxi drivers details, last week in Eyre Square.
-
Welfare had spotters out and about with the Garda checkpoints during the lockdown. All they'd be doing is cross-referencing one list with another.
If welfare walked into Freenow tomorrow they would willingly handover any info without a warrant. They're hardly gonna tell them to piss off. It's a poxy app company not the Mafia.
Anyway I wouldn't be bothered if I was caught just plead ignorance and they'd make you pay it back over a few years.

Would you get a tax Clearance Cert?
-
Not sure Lizzzy it would probably have to go to court or something.
Which reminds me I wonder how many app drivers won't be able to pay their tax bill this year? Some Gold medal heroes would be owning 5/6/7k for 2019.
-
How would the NTA know if guys claiming the Covid Rent were out working ?
Someone posted a SW letter on here a few weeks ago that said something like they were spotted working on city centre CCTV and claiming the 350. And would they like to give up the 350? It was a polite way of saying 'gotcha, ya cheating bastard'.
-
Think there was 39 caught in finglas alone.they should check out the northside shopping centre rank
-

What job could they not do as a result of COVID 19 restrictions?

Old article, I thought this was interesting:
Issues in the department were first raised shortly after the launch of the emergency payment on March 16. Internal correspondence, seen by the MoS, shows that at the start of April cross-checks with Revenue found 700 applicants could not show they had been working prior to applying.
Internal correspondence, seen by the MoS, shows that at the start of April cross-checks with Revenue found 700 applicants could not show they had been working prior to applying. They were identified as having no payslips in 2020, or in the case of the self-employed applicants, no Class S contributions in the relevant year.

Already paid,thanks.
So I just have 2020 preliminary tax to pay in October.
I reckon I'll throw them 2k and worry about it in 2021.
-
Fair play I haven't even thought about me own VD.But you'd be one of many with relatively large returns compared to only ten years ago.If it gets as shit as it was back a 5k tax bill would be a huge ask for any driver.
-
I have NEVER paid preliminary tax,I dont think its compulsory
-

+1
I was never asked about it either

You can pay preliminary tax monthly by direct debit, therefore you won't be in arrears (assuming the 2K doesn't cover the whole payment)

Whos they ?
The defacement of the statue was painted in numerous colours. People are seeing red (literally) and a few other colours and are saying it must have been done by LGBTQ people. I mean FFS . Does that mean when someone defaces a shop in town with blue paint, the culprits must be smurfs?
-
I disnt say it was the LQUBGT or whatever they are called,I it is assumed by some it was them because of the colour on the statue
-

"they reckon it was the LBGT crowd or whatever that brown hatters orginisation are called".
FYI its LGBTQ.
Your assumption is ridiculous.
-
Thats not my assumption, the word they is widly used in most context to describe a feeling amongst a griup of people.no doubt you have used it many times yourself in similar circumstances

If tou read back ,did you not ask whos they ?

I did yes, which you never answered.
But the above post is odd!

I did answer, and not only did I answer, but I explained in detail to you the context in which one might use the word they to describe a feeling expressed by a group of people

You went on about the "word" "assumption" and how it was used. But you never answered who "they" were in your assumption about the defacing of the Russell Statue.

They are the people who rang the Joe Duffy show condeming the acrions of the culprits, they are the people who rang the evening hearald, and various other newspapers aith similar complaints, they are the people who talk openly in the street about this act of vandalism, etc im surprised you need to have it explained who THEY are

Ah Joe Duffy listeners? Ah mystery solved then,it must be true so.
I'll sleep well tonight.

You were not arguing about which source it came from, your question was who are they .please try and understand this time

Erm, you're actually contradicting yourself there. But I think we will leave things alone for now.
As long as we finally know who the "they" are i.e. the wonderful Joe Duffy listeners, then all is well.
Thank you

With the very first word you said,I could be forgiven for thinking you ate talking to Johnny, but then again maybe tou are,you have already talked about your confusion earlier
