Post by: Justin Time on July 01, 2020, 12:14:58 pm
So has any of your wise and wonderful taxi people installed a screen yet?

If so, can you give a recommendations?

Thanks in advance.

There are a multitude of screen threads on here, the consensus seems to be that the free now offering is the best value, €25 if you're an ambassador lick arse lacky or €50 if you're not.
I think you may have to be with Free now to avail of the service?

Dropped a friend out to the airport this morning .Refitted my screen .I am taking it out due to Social distancing .Like Ken said you cannot communicate with the customer and my car is to small so the seats are adjusted to far forward .Uncomfortable and probably unsafe driving position .There is another safety issue .If I pick up Bronco or Punch Happy and they tell me where they are going and I cant hear them it could lead to friction .Masks will be optional if the passenger requires me to wear one I will.

Taxi driving is a social occupation we usually communicate with the customers sometimes to receive instruction or direction. The screen presents a social barrier .It dosent suit my modus operandi .

"Taking it out due to social distancing"!!!

Bit of a paradox there.

So, youre taking a chance in getting Covid, despite all evidence showing that taxi drivers in particular are high risk of contracting it.

Theres a myth out there that, most of the population that get it will only have "mild" symptoms" and  "young people wont get it"

Both,are completely wrong.

Everyone, can get it.

I dont think there is the slightest chance of the NTA  making screens compulsory, particularly since they are the ones that said they offer no protection against the virus.not only that,I doubt they have the right to ake them compulsory since a very small percentage of drivers have them

They cannot make the screens mandatory without a standard or certification, they'll have to go with masks

customers however seem to expect them, and a large portion of FN bookings require them

I've had no trouble conversing with passengers, maybe your plastic is a bit thick (like yourself) or that seal you have around it is a tad OTT and not really required

I don't think FN offer screens to non-FN drivers, there original offer stated that the screen was worth 100 Euro but would be discounted to 50 fer ordinary FN plebs and 25 fer ambassadors.
Title: Re: Screens
Post by: Belker on July 02, 2020, 05:37:42 pm
With the light weight FN screen you can still converse with a passenger but by and large most stay silent rather than talk through a screen.
The One problem I did have with the screen was when reversing by night, there was a terrible glare off it fer the rear mirror view, but the simple solution I found was just to turn off your headlights whilst reversing.

Screens are possibly dangerous .If you offer a screen under the Free Now banner you are supposed to clean the car after every journey .If you do a follow on job at what point did you clean the car as advertised .If somebody is traced to your vehicle as infected and you cannot prove you cleaned the car after them how much shit will you be in .Be carefull what you sign up to .

The APP does not tell people where they were or who they were near, it doesn't work if you get into a taxi after somebody else, Get your facts right!!!

All fares should be arranged through a licensed dispatch firm (Lynk, for example, provides it's drivers with PPE) to facilitate contact tracking and ranks should be reassigned to safer, environmentally friendlier forms of public transport such as bicycles, electric scooters and rickshaws.

How does a paper mask help with contact tracing, is there a built-in tinfoil hat and microchip?
Title: Re: Screens

Dispatch firms are already required to record job details. Extending those regulation to facilitate sharing data with HSE where necessary would make sense as would amending the same to require them to ascertain the purpose of the journey. Obviously ranks would have to be closed or reassigned to safer, healthier, environmentally friendlier forms of public transport and street hails banned.

I see TfL are trying to speed up regulations to facilitate electric scooters. NTA should follow suit and consider wider promotion of (electric) rickshaws as safer alternatives to taxis, at least for short journeys.

I've posted on this already, got me daisies re-fitted last week and the NTA guy says they have the power to go into FN or any other dispatcher and get info on drivers.

They can also if they wish pass this on to revenue , and I would think in respect of the present Covid payments they do.
Title: Re: Screens
Post by: Rat Catcher on July 08, 2020, 07:21:27 pm
Dispatch firms are not currently required to record destinations or fares charged, SB... hence the information available from most traditional dispatch firms would be of limited use to Revenue in conducting driver audits. Conversely, drivers who work for app based firms such as Free Now can get an annual statement showing all income from cash and account jobs dispatched by the firm... obviously Revenue will know that and expect to see the same in the event of an audit.

In any event, none of that has any relevance in facilitating contact tracking. Restricting all taxis to private hire may make sense in that regard and could require amended regulations requiring dispatch firms to record the purpose of the journey and the destination. Such enhancements may indirectly assist Revenue in enforcement of compliance depending on definitions specified.

Monies transferred to driver's personal bank accounts from the likes of Ebbs et all should be sufficient for revenue.

A lot of firms are cash heavy (e.g. C2K) so extrapolating (net) account payments to ascertain takings would be firm specific with significant margins of error - in C2Ks case you would be looking at a 92+% margin of error. For drivers that work for Free Now no extrapolation is required as they can get annual statements showing all cash and account jobs dispatched and completed by them.
