Title: Provisional licences
Post by: john m on July 09, 2020, 07:09:41 pm
Looking at the outcry about Drunken TDs on Provisional licences .And how they managed to drive for years on a provisional .How many did you have .I had 2 got my first when I was 18 then renewed it when I was 34 .The law use to be you had to be ENTITLED to hold a licence NOT that you hold a valid licence so you could drive on an out of date licence and you got 14 days to produce it so you would then renew it if asked to produce .This was absolutely LEGAL .They now changed the rules but back then this was the law .

My Da had three. Never passed his test. Sylvester Barrett gifted him one along with thousands of others to shorten the queue.

I failed my driving test.
Made too many mistakes when I was out with the examiner.
When I was back at the office he hummed and hawed and said ah fuck off you're alright and passed me.

I passed my test in eircom.they used to send you up on a 3 week driving course, and on the last day of the course you did the test.they had their own driving school.after that a few years later,if you wanted to you could go up on the truck driving course.4 hours overtime a day.two hours traveling time in the morning, and 2 hours travelling home in the evening .a great fukin job,at that time

He also said a good jockey doesn't need orders and a bad jockey couldn't carry them out anyway, so it's best not to give them any.

Passed mine 1st time in my mother's car, reasonably sure that I wasn't insured, was that possible nearly 50 years ago?

Passed it 2nd time on the motorbike, failed 1st time for "failing to make forward progress on the road", the borrowed bike's engine was a bit iffy, and inclined to stall.
