Title: 4 or 3?
Post by: Justin Time on July 13, 2020, 12:44:05 pm
Listening to Pat Kenny this morning and he read out a txt from a taxi driver who said that he got no directive from the NTA especially when it comes to refusing passengers that didnt wear a mask.

He also said, could a driver refuse to take 4 passengers as that one mean one passenger would have to sit in the front seat, which goes against the HSE guidelines or social distancing.

I thought it was a valid point.

The NTA have directed that we can refuse passengers in the front seat and we can refuse to take cash, the Mask directive doesn't apply to Taxis so I'm not sure if we can refuse passengers who fail to wear them

Really ? I actually hvnt  seen that, can you give a link please?

Do that mean then we can actually refuse to take 4 people ?

By the time the NTA call you in face to face to punish any incorrect interpretation of the rules the pandemic will be over.

If you are genuinely worried about catching it stay home and start job hunting.

Are Freenow still operating a two passenger policy?

Has it been mentioned anywhere officially, why the mask directive doesn't apply to taxis, apart from the argument as to whether we are or aren't part of the public transport network?

I don't think we can ever consider the pandemic to be over, MfH. Surely we should be thinking in terms of "the new normal" so it's difficult to argue that there is any place for taxis going forward. Given the concerns expressed by drivers and company bosses Govt must focus on transition to safer, healthier, environmentally friendlier alternatives.

In my experience the appetite for social distancing has largely eroded, JIT. HSE's main social distancing recommendation is to avoid crowds. We've all seen the queues for cabs at pub closing time and most of us have been in crowded bars and shops so that one's out the window. Similarly, physical distancing only seems to apply to point of entry as far as retail outlets are concerned. Mask wearing hasn't caught on either, I'd say less than 7% of shoppers are wearing them and I have honestly only seen one person wearing a mask in a bar... and he took it off to smoke.

Rc what I meant was the NTA are still probably working from home and it takes a long time for them to punish drivers for any offences. So do what ya want if you have to work.

If I was concerned about my health I'd be flogging my car too.Maybe come back in a few years.I'm not because I'm getting paid.

There is a general misconception that this thing is gonna be over soon.Public transport masks  today then next it will be mandatory in supermarkets and other enclosed spaces. The pubs most likely will be shut again.

Then after the second wave subsides we will just decide to sacrifice the sick and old to Covid so we can move on with our lives. The government won't use my wording but the effect will be the same.

That's a horrendous suggestion, MfH - to close the pubs again would be very unpopular with the drinking classes.... but I see what you're getting at... Dr. Leo giveth, Mehaul taketh away?

Something like that RC.We've been successful at containing it but only while the economy is closed down.No schools, cinemas, holidays, concerts, restaurants or wet pubs seems like a miserable life.Even if it's only for a few years.

Soon it will be just accepted that certian folks will be victims of COVID for the greater good. There's only so much fukkin walking and cycling the public can tolerate..it was fun for about a week.

You could be right. For the most part I've enjoyed lockdown but we did have the weather at the beginning which makes a huge difference. A winter without bars to walk to would sort the men from the boys, I guess.

Thanks for that, I wasnt aware of that fact that you could refuse the maximum amount of passengers in the car.
Should be fun up in the airport so!

Well, there you go... you don't have to buy drink just because they're selling it... so no need to try to force your Muslimesque culture on the rest of us. Drinking alcohol is central to our cultural heritage
