Ah yes. A couple of the old chestnuts:
1. comparing the price of a bus fare to a taxi run. Even the news reporter jumped on that one. Do these fukwits not realise that a bus operator could have several dozen punters at 25 apiece? They don't run a bus from Belfast to Dublin for a man on his Todd. Now THAT'S good money.
2. Talking about how the meter "took off" as soon as he jumped in. Yes, normally meters do start to go up. That's the idea. A lot of folk have an issue with the initial--charge portion of the fare.
I laughed when I read the bit when he said they had a "discussion" over the price when they arrived. I can only imagine the scene. Especially that the man resided in East Belfast, and was home on his own turf. A different animal may have been on show than the one who hopped in at T2 arrivals!
Speaking of East Belfast, I'm not sure if the chap would have been too impressed with the reporter describing him as "Irish" [emoji848]

I've taken countless nordys home across the border after a night out in "the free state". You'd want to hear the who whinging of some of them about the price (most of them are fine).
"mister, we only paid twalve pynd to get here and you want twanty faav euro". Trying to explain to them that the cost of living between both sides is like apples and Oranges, or to simplify it even further by using the analagy that the price of a pan of bread is different, is impossible. They are also extremely tight when it comes to parting with the dough up there. Tips is a four letter word.

What would happen if you drove Malcom ,Ian and Cameron from Dublin Airport to the wrong end of the Gervahey Road and they refused to pay you as they dont recognise the Euro .You call the RUC Garda and they say these Gentlemen are UK citizens and can expect to be charged in £ in their own country ,your meter is not set to formulate a legal tender fare in this country so go fuck off. What is the legals surrounding charging in euro in Great Britains Irish Colony .Is it actually legal ?
-
Your aren't a taxi driver in the UK so they could probably tell you to get stuffed and walk away.

You can indeed get the psni and they will (maybe not them all) back you. It's probably the same as ber- the biggest problem would be getting them out to you in the first place. The safest way around these situations is just agree a price and get the money up front before you touch the pedal. I never go north, or indeed many long trips this side of the border without cash up front.
A fellow driver (let's call him Mick) once took a guy to Belfast a few years ago. The craic was great all the way. When they got closer to yer mans place, the Mick noticed the red white and blue kerb stones. They pulled up a terraced house in a dead end street. Big Ian asked him to wait till he got the money. Mick was looking in the door and could see your man coming with, not the money, but three of his mates carrying "implements". Thank god Mick had the presence of mind to go down, do a u turn and floor it. Got out safely but empty handed. Still, the airgead would have been a secondary issue relative to what could have happened.
Always money up front. Never mind the meter. If they have a problem with that, then you could have a problem with them.

I know not all shops in Norn Eireann will accept the Euro as its not legal tender up there its foreign currency .So is a fare in Euro actually recoverable by law ? After Brexit will we be allowed WORK north of the line or will we need to register our business like other couriers who move boxes not people .You have to wonder why this is a story in the first place is somebody trying to imply ripoff Republic God Save the Queen comparisons.

We'll be OK to carry people across. There's still going to be free movement of people between us and them as per the deal struck, and the insurance crowd have cleared everyone for cover ages ago- without the need for one of them green card tings.

if you charged a Nordie 10 euro from Dublin to Belfast, they would still complain, tight fcukers. I wouldn't have taken a cent off the price. also agree, money up front on any long journey with people you don't know, Nordie or not.
reminds me of a friend of mine who was driving this tourist all over the country one day, my friend said he wasnt going to charge her the booking fee, then she started complaining about the cost, 320 euro, so he added on the 2 euro booking fee lol
anyone know how much it would be in pounds for the reverse trip?
a man with a million pound clothing business giving out about having to pay 270 euro, hopefully his $hitty clothing business goes out of under.

Anytime I've ever been asked "how much are you giving on sterling?" I always tell them its one for one. Take it or leave it. Fuk that. The extra will cover me for the annoyance of getting out of my car to go into a bureau de chawnge. Besides, if they want to hire a taxi down here, it's yoyos we deal in if push comes to shove

"Now I'm very cautious when it comes to finances," he says.
he sure is. I usually find most business people are ok to deal with and tip well as they know what its like to be in business.
he is the sort of businesses man who charges well for his own products but begrudges other people trying to earn a living.

This type of "taxi headlines" usually appear around Christmas time, so thats surprising.
The article is sensationalism at its finest. Its a non story, just look how they showed the fare estimator and the fare was perfectly legit.
The majority of people who get into a taxi and are going on a long journey will (1)Usually ask how much the fare will be or ask for an approx., fare (2) Will haggle (3) They always moan.
