Will all pubs open on the 10 of August or will the Big Sneeze force them to stay shut
-
If the Porter Shops dont reopen then there must be a doubt the Schools will reopen ,if they dont them Mick Martin the TD from Cork will be claiming the Covid Coin PUP as he wont be Taoiseach anymore .The Yanks and the Brits are getting slaughtered but Ireland is saying Ah Sure its grand .Has anybody got a clue what is really happening .
-
Pubs that can serve food are open already. There's about ten within walking distance from my gaff. Those that want a drink can get one today.
I think the parents are finding it tough with the homeschooling and many are struggling to work from home. They need the school open to babysit their kids.
Pubs will open soon but not in their old format. Many will realise they need to get a restaurant licence to reopen before Christmas.I wouldn't be expecting any huge jump in business.I'm surprised at ya Erm you're usually the pessimistic one.
-
As the restaurant pub opening has been a success given no known cluster has started in one there is no reason why they shouldn't
-
Some places are strict on the guidelines and others don't bother policing the HSE recommendations. So there will be outbreaks in some of the smaller places in time.If yer under 30 COVID 19 isn't your problem from what I've seen.
-
any lads with school runs have you got a contract yet .
-
They are trying to give out as many contracts to fleet operators..APU
-
They won't all open. There's probably enough open for now anyway.

45 more cases today. And that's even before the holiday weekend. If they weren't already, the pubs are banjaxed now.

45 is grand, there's loads of free capacity in hospitals and ICUs. We've a way to go before they need to do anything to slow the spread.

People don't give two shites anymore. I went in for a sandwich earlier and this one breezed in and nearly stood on top of me. I asked her was she looking for a hug or what? It took a minute for the penny to drop. And I took a fare going to her grandchilds confirmation party in the house. Boasting about how all the family would be there. 35 I think she said. Bouncy castles, the lot. I had to bite my tongue.

Once we have the front line resources to cope with hospital - and, particularly, ICU - admissions there isn't a problem.
-
I think the statistics bloke on the news said it becomes a real problem when it gets to 200 new cases a day. That many cases can escalate very quickly into a real problem.
Schools will be allowed they've already said it.Pubs are unlikely to be opened fully. The bar man better learn how to make some pizzas soon.
-
Schools wont be allowed if the numbers go up .Teachers Union wont wear it .I always thought they opened too soon as they were afraid the Cabbages would not go into government and looking at it they havent .Mick from Cork has gambled his Staff Car on getting Schools reopened Leo will stab the cunt in the back to keep the Hospitals empty .The Greens will run away ..
-
I posted a few weeks ago that Temple Bar pubs would not reopen Just off the Phone to my mate who told me ,he says the chances of pubs reopening on the 10th are about 40% he recons Publicans have been ADVISED if the number goes above 100 for any 1 day or stay above 50 for 3 days then the pubs wont open .The Vintners have been ADVISED chances are if they mouth off then the whole lot could be back in lockdown .
-
So why are Temple Bar pubs not opening ?seems that they have been ADVISED if they open as Restaurants they are limited to 50 persons including Staff on the premises so unless they can open as a Porter shop proper its not commercially viable .
-
They might be open if they supply a €9 meal.I got served chicken and chips in a bag with disposable cutlery the other night. It was lovely..
The pub rents still need paying and the government subsidies are still available for the staff wages.
Don't laugh but I've being staying within walking distance from my gaff because I don't wanna get in a taxi. There's no way that all the taxis are getting cleaned as often and as well as they should.

Seriously he thinks we are all useless work avoiding scum but Im certain he runs a good service .Screens ,Mask and cleaning If I was looking for a taxi I would give him first refusal .

I took a Taxi home tonight from Peploes. Toyota Proace, it was spotless, even had a gel dispenser stuck to the well fitted screen, however the 2 girls in the rear seats (it's a seven seater) got a little claustrophobic (wearing the masks) but the rear windows don't open for ventilation and although the front windows were open a little the screen made them obsolete.
I'm surprised window openings aren't a provision in vehicle regulations
PS I think the vote results are more wishful thinking rather than reality

What about cabin temperature? There's an advisory that a certain internal temperature must be maintainable (think it's around 22°) in colder conditions, without being hindered by a screen. Presumably there are vents at the rear of the center console..

ONEAND it might not be wishfull thinking .....The Cabinet is expected to ease Covid-19 restrictions on outdoor gatherings to allow up to 500 people at events.
However, there is bad news for nightclubs owners, with senior government figures insisting they will not be given the clearance to reopen when ministers meet on Tuesday to discuss easing of restrictions.
Pubs may be permitted to open under strict new guidelines but the rising number of new cases in recent days has raised fresh doubts over whether the Government will give them the green light.
"Nightclubs will be a while off," a Cabinet minister said, before adding: "Pubs are looking shaky after the last two days." Another senior minister said the reopening of pubs is "up in the air" but suggested a solution may be found to allow rural pubs to reopen.
"We could restrict the numbers of people allowed in, so the rural pubs could have their regulars. They might not be able to do a €9 meal but they will be able to socially distance in a way the big super-pubs and disco bars wouldn't," the minister added.
The Government postponed fully moving into the final stage of the plan over fears about an increase in the spread of the coronavirus.
A large rise in cases last week caused concern among ministers ahead of a crucial Cabinet meeting on Tuesday.
The Government's key focus for August is the reopening of primary and secondary schools and the Taoiseach has indicated pubs and nightclubs may lose out to ensure children can return to education.
Yesterday, a senior government source said the "priority" is still to open schools and the Cabinet will take into consideration the figures for new Covid cases over the weekend and tomorrow before they make a final decision on easing restrictions.
The source said the Government would draft new rules in consultation with vintners if they were to give pubs permission to reopen without serving food. The source said any rules introduced would be closely monitored to ensure publicans were adhering to the guidelines. However, they emphasised no decision had been taken on whether they could reopen or not.
Yesterday, publicans warned there will be permanent closures if pubs are not allowed to open on August 10.
The Government is also monitoring the situation in other EU countries, where second waves of the virus have already emerged.

Make what you want out of this bit of information. When the Paddys Day Parade was POSTPONED the government said we would have it later in the year .The man who hires casual labour says the St Patricks Day Organizing committee has been disbanded for this year .So no Parade .If they are abandoning the idea of a Parade dosent bode well for indoor events or large gatherings .

Steo Donnelly said he "did not want to make any comment" on the reopening of Porter Shops until he had received advice from public health officials and the Government's key focus is reopening schools in September.
The National Public Health Emergency Team will give him the billy on phase four tomorrow, after which, the Cabinet will decide on whether phase four should go ahead.
"This has been a very very difficult situation for pub owners. Various publicans have come to me and other members of the Cabinet and asked a very fair question, which is why are they being singled out? Because retail is back open, a lot of other parts of normal life are back open, albeit with restrictions.

03/08/2020 - 10:10:00

Firefighters battled a blaze in Dublin's south inner city late last night.
The fire broke out in two flats at School Street Flats in the Liberties area.
3 units of Dublin Fire Brigade attended the scene including a turntable ladder.
The fire was brought under control and put out. Firefighters searched the building and established no one had been injured.

Todays figures ..The Department of Health has been notified of 46 additional cases of Covid-19, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 26,208.NO CHANCE THE PUBS WILL REOPEN NEXT MONDAY they will probably look at closing the Eat and slurp pubs .

They're definitely being scapegoated, it's the fear of not being able to open the schools if there's a spike (political not epidemiological) if so it'll be easier for them to open the pubs once the schools are up and running?
Do the Pubs have a legal case to bring against government, being forced to close through no fault of their own?
-
With masks becoming mandatory in retail settings from Monday, combining that with the rules on wearing them on public transport makes it clear that a mask will have to be worn if you are out pretty much anywhere except for a walk in the park or having a meal somewhere.
*Oh yeah and taxis*. Now unless I didn't get the memo, there are still no clear guidelines regarding us. I know it was touched on last week I think it was, but I ain't heard anything more since. Anyone have any updates?
No mask bud? No worries, hop in. Taxi drivers are the only ones that are immune to the little fella.

There is a bit of a Game being played out here .The Big Chains of Super pubs like Louie or Chalk can open they serve food they are in the Govs ear looking for wet pubs to stay shut .They want to force them out of business bit like I said we need about 30%of taxis off the road to make our business viable .Young people dont really gargle like their Daddys did so there is huge overcapasity in the Porter Shop industry .There is also another reason to shut down pubs .Remember before the last financial crash they reduced the opening hours for pubs as to much money was being spent in pubs we need the cash spread more widely in the community plus there are health and law and order issues that apply to reducing pubs .I dont know of any other country on earth that would make such a song and dance about the sale of alcohol from Healy Wray complaining that ya cant even reverse a tractor into the Pub carpark for a feed of Porter without having your collar felt to Alone or Some other Suicide prevention group telling us if Dinny and Frank cant get to the Pub for Whiskey down the country they will die of lonlieness and Fiacra and Nula telling us the Culture will die out if Brona and Calum cant sit at the bar and sing An Pucca Buille and recite Kavanagh ..

Ok John. Thanks for your input. Input being stating the obvious. I asked a simple question hoping for a straightforward reply. If you don't know the answer, why bother wasting energy typing out silly stuff that is already known? And no need for the capital g [emoji6].

Grow up? Look a bit closer to home on that score. Anyone that can't communicate without that kind of language has issues. You seem to have anger management problems and therefore probably should not be contributing to adult discussions. Stay at home? I have a job to do. You're clearly at home sitting on your pimply arse taking the pup, and pontificating to others about the do's and don'ts of of a global pandemic.
Now please don't respond, this is going nowhere. Your grammar is atrocious by the way.

Jonno has a point - we've been largely ignored by the NTA and all they do is parrot HSE info guides that mean very little to us.
29 June: https://www.nationaltransport.ie/taxi-and-bus-licensing/face-coverings-to-become-compulsory/ (https://www.nationaltransport.ie/taxi-and-bus-licensing/face-coverings-to-become-compulsory/)
- Face coverings will shortly be compulsory on all SPSV services.
- We will keep you updated.
13 July: https://www.transportforireland.ie/covid-19-updates-face-coverings/ (https://www.transportforireland.ie/covid-19-updates-face-coverings/)
Then the law was changed so that masks were compulsory on public transport vehicles but no mention of PSV's. Bus drivers got an out because they had screens. Taxis? nada.
31 July: https://www.nationaltransport.ie/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/SPSV_Industry_Update_Issue_49.pdf (https://www.nationaltransport.ie/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/SPSV_Industry_Update_Issue_49.pdf)
- Everyone in a taxi, hackney or limousine should wear a face covering where the Public Health advice on social distancing cannot be maintained.
What's changed in a month? A month after masks 'will be compulsory', now they 'should' be worn. And that old chestnut about social distancing... Is there any saloon taxi that can do the 2 metres?
The NTA are making it up as the go along and giving almost no thought about us. They have failed us. Whatever about us as individuals, the 10,000 taxis in Dublin could be super-spreaders. It seems to me that most of the infections now are factories and house-parties. And taxis are likely to be used to get to/from house parties.
-
Until drivers start refusing passengers regularly without masks they won't bother carrying them.
The NTA are only there to issue guidelines.Anything after that is between you and your potential customers. If you believe your health is threatened by COVID 19 either take the payment or start refusing passengers without masks.
-
Drivers trying to polish a shit .The NTA have told you Screens are no good but Free Now decided to get you to pay for them so they could advertise their screened fleet .You have been told that a well ventilated space where you spend less than 15 minutes in another persons company you are safe .Can I ask a Question Considering how many taxi drivers are working can anybody point to just ONE driver who has contracted the virus from working without a screen or mask .
JUST ONE ........The NTH have issued crystal clear guidelines WASH YOUR HANDS OBSERVE SOCIAL DISTANCING .
-
To be fair John......the majority of drivers took the Covid coin...as you refer to it....so most likely not that many cases....we've saved lives!!

Correct Hal we are very responsible not spreading the virus .More untraceable passengers in a taxi that known drunks in a country pub .There are more changes of mind and mood swings by this government than a Teenage girl on Pernod and Blacks .

It's all about limiting the damage John.If you close everything we will get protests. There will be variables but as long as most people do what they're told the death rates will be subdued until the vaccine gets here.

That could be interesting Hal RGDATA say they wont enforce it as its a legal requirement therefore it should be enforced by the Gards .I read yesterday that a Slaughter House in down the country had an outbreak and they sent the staff home as it was dangerous and brought different staff in to the dangerous place to deep clean it .Now if the Minister for Couhffsss and Sneeeezzeezes and Snifffffelles was to say if there is an incident in your shop of Sneezing then as part of the deepcleaning all your stock has to be burned Im sure the Shop keepers would enforce the rule .
-
Being afraid of getting sick is not one of the criteria for getting the PUP.
If you have a viable job to go to, you must return to it, that's the rule.
If you all returned, the job probably wouldn't be viable, but theres room for a few more.
Caiming your doing the right thing by not returning to work because you're not spreading the virus is bullshit, if that's your only reason and you believe there's work out there, then your robbing welfare.
Take basic precautions, screen/Mask/Sanitise/ventilate and the Taxi is as safe as anywhere else

For a driver to give up 350 a week they'd need to get 450(350Covid money+100 for insurance and fuel)worth of fares before they start making any extra.OR €517.50 if they're paying Freenow@15%.
Just to be in the same position. Why would they bother unless they had some sort of shame attached to claiming benefits?I'm saving me energy for when I actually need to work for buttons later in the year or maybe next.
Smart thing to do is wait it out for many.
After six months off I'm getting slightly interested in getting back to work.

Jonno I've been overpaying the mortgage out of my 350.If it's necessary I can survive on the reduced rates until after xmas.
No kids so different problems. If there was an equivalent to the COVID payment during the last recession most of us would have preferred to have been on it rather than begging outside of Spar shops.

After six months off I'm getting slightly interested in getting back to work.
Seeings how you’ve acclimated to not working the taxi and seem to be getting by ok, realistically what would make you give up the taxi altogether, or what would make ya go back into it and reinvest?

Not sure Panel.I've no qualifications except knowing my way around. So it's taxi driving or driving a van or motorcycle as a courier again.Kinda the same job with less flexibility, possibly less money.I've access to an interest free loan on the next car so it's not as bitter a pill to swallow.
For me to go back to school for a qualification it would involve lots of time and no guarantee that I'd be happy assuming I got something afterwards.
I've got plans to catch up on some proper travelling so will need a reasonable income after the mortgage is paid off.I'm somehow semi-retired already because I'm a bit frugal...not mean..So for now I'll keep my toe in at least until the car hits 15 in March 21.
Means-tested welfare wouldn't get me to all the places I wanna see.

Suppose with no bin lids ya can wait in the long grass longer than most.

Not a whole lot of difference I guess.

But not forgetting the pubs in town that opened till 3am....that won't be opening for the foreseeable....forcing me and plenty of my colleagues to stay on the puppy for the foreseeable.
-
Use your puppy dole to support your local publican... provided he doesn't expect you to buy food you don't want.... or expect you to sup up at 23:00.

Yer grand thanks!!

The Medics have control of reopening--no chance of reopening in three weeks as Schools will be just back and they will want to see effect on figures--6 or maybe 9 weeks best --case numbers will have to low teens /single figures before Pubs get nod !
I was in Pub yesterday, not many about --most Pubs knocked off Sky --Eu 1800 a month so no PGA/Football etc as 105 min screws it !
-
Porter Houses dont have the political clout they use to have TDs dont hold their clinics anymore in the Saloon Lounge on Thursday .You saw the Medics imposing early closing and a limit of 50 in restaurants that includes pubs dressing up as restaurants, most big city pubs couldnt cover their costs with less than 50 customers so they will want all or nothing ,dont be surprised if the Gastro pubs are closed down again .Ordinary decent Gargle Sellers cant allow the sit and eat pubs rob their garglers .

If they wanna take the risk I could find them a dodgy box for a couple of ton, Punter. Very reliable, well over the last Sky sponsored attack but no guarantees.
