It is a load of Bollox ,not the virus but how they are handling it .First they paid us not to work to stay home and stop the spread of the fever ,Now they are paying us to go back to work but at the same time the fever money has been extended until April 2021 .So do they want us back working or not ?200 cases yesterday NO chance of the pubs or clubs reopening or Gigs before Christmas if this continues .This Government havent a fucking notion what they are doing .Yesterday they sacked Failte Irelands boss man for going on a foreign holiday .does that mean they will sack the health minister if he smokes as he is telling everybody else not to smoke just like the bloke from Failte Ireland was telling us all to Staycation .Its beginning to look like the Independent and Irish Times are running the country Government seem to react to headlines .

I'd say we can forget about pubs, clubs, schools, big gatherings etc for the foreseeable.
I also think they need to knock this staycation- promoting stuff on the head, however well meaning their intentions. The only thing they are promoting is the spread of the plague around this septic Isle. In fact they should never have gone ahead with it in the first place. They should have been telling people not to go anywhere--at home or abroad- until a clearer picture emerged as to what way this thing was going.
Imagine NPHET having high level pow- wows every day, then going on national TV to tell the nation to be very careful because this thing is still around and will be with us for a long time. Then in the next breath "sure you'll all be grand to travel all over the country on your holiers. That's different."

@Jonno nail on the head .Schools will reopen Martin staked his company car on it .Like you say why spread in around this country ?
-
It's easy... all that government cash goes back into the economy and gets taxed. They know people are hoarding cash and don't want them to spend it in the Canaries or Disneyland.Keeping the tourist industry alive so that they don't have to bail it out helps too.
Sure I've travelled more in other countries than I have in my own.Air travel is cheap.

Seems fairly obvious, they want the lazy fuckers who have a job to go to, to go back to work, and they want to continue to pay those who actually need it.
-
Taxi drivers were just used as an example.Other professions were mentioned too. There's over €11000 available to to all COVID recipients between now and April. A grand is only worth it if you were going back anyway. It will be still available next year and possibly increased after some whinging. No rushing back for many.

At some future stage of relative normality, they need to start with a blank canvas and get the lazy fukers that don't have a job, but are capable and have no good reason not to be working, off the brew and back out contributing. Sweeping the streets, anything. Stop making it so fucking handy for them. I'm sick of picking fellas up from the pub (when the pubs were open at least) who don't work yet are full of drink and betting slips. And you and I funding it for them, thank you very much!

There are many, many genuine people signing on through no fault of their own. They've been maybe made redundant and have paid their dues all their working lives. They're entitled, even though they'd rather be working.
But you have the other cohort who are career dolites, and as I mentioned they are quite capable of frequenting the boozer and bookies on a regular basis. The sums don't add up. There's a disconnect somewhere that needs to be fixed. Historically it's always been the way, so I can't see anyone grasping the nettle anytime soon.

Same problem all over the world with welfare. We live in a relatively wealthy country. If you don't pay the spongers enough they might turn to crime fukking things up for the lads with the big mansions.

Lots of cases, but few deaths, and how many are being hospitalised? Hopefully just bad flu like doses for the majority of younger profile people who are getting it. Any evidence that there are outbreaks in Staycation locations, or are they just in factory locations, particularly meat processors?

I'd say the risks of catching it in this country have sky rocketed. We now have more per 100 k than UK or Germany

I'm more sceptical about the numbers. If lots of people who have symptoms have it and aren't bothering getting tested then they have no idea how much of it is exactly out there. What about all the infected ones who don't get any symptoms?
Only real solution is to quarantine the vunerable until it's finished. If you don't wanna cocoon then be happy to die from it.I Know some OAPs would rather die than spend their last years even more isolated.

Unfortunately unlike the flu covid can leave some sufferers with side effects that could affect them if they get a second hit as there's no guarantee that they won't be susceptible to it again.

none of the people out at night wear masks when getting into the taxi, you have to blame the drink, the wet pubs may as well be open, the nights don't go on as long but people are still as drunk at the end of the night as they were this time last year. some pubs are letting people stay as many hours as they want. people have very short memories, it's like the lockdown never happened.

90% of people are morons in fairness. The way people are acting on nights out, its like they are doing all they can to get another lockdown.
But its really the pub/restaurant owners who are flaunting the guidelines that I blame, it will be their own fault when things get shut down again.

Passed a wet pub today. Punters being let in the back door.... don't know why they bothered because there was small windows opened at the front and lights visibly on. Young fellas could clearly be heard hootin and hollerin. They're getting brazen as fukk. Pub owners I mean. The youngsters will flock there if they are allowed.

Yes I would. I was going to do it when I dropped off the people I had in the car at the time. By the time I got them home I had already got a call from another customer so it went out of my head. I'm quite sure the fuzz would have passed the same pub several times and would have seen what everyone else saw. Obviously not too bothered.

I think tomorrow and Tuesdays number of infections will set the tone .Over 400 combined we are in the shit .Sunday Numbers are usually lower so have a guess on tomorrows number I recon around 140 for tomorrow and 60 for Tuesday but listening to Leo and the fella that advises the Government I think they are expecting a bit of a surge .

The Guards might take it more seriously if pubs are reported. I have heard of a few that have been warned for not enforcing the rules so you would imagine a wet pub wouldn't be tolerated. The Irish attitude of ah it will be grand is going to cause us huge trouble.

Do you wear your a mask? I find if I have mine on when they're getting in they put one on. however if they catch me by surprise and I am not wearing one most don't bother, even if I put one on after they get in ... I have to ask them ... which is slightly awkward, for me anyway.

I'd estimate that about 90% are wearing them when they get in. The rest is a mix of people that don't carry one (the minority) and others that have one in the pocket or handbag. Some of those ones will ask if they have to wear it. The vast majority are compliant I find

Considering this, 6 for £5.60 and claiming it back on the grant

No symptoms. The current Mrs Shillin had to travel for medical attention, and the receiving country required negative PCR and antibody tests no older than 48hrs before travelling. The antibody test was carried out in a pharmacy in Ballsbridge (€49), so out of curiosity I had the antibody test myself (10% discount for 2)

Good old ingrid. She won last years award for the happiest face on TV, ever.
On a more serious note, it's all fine and dandy finding the workers that tested positive. And you would feel for them. But is nobody questioning the very real possibility that the plague could transferred be onto said mushrooms, or whatever is produced in any of these facilities? I've always washed me fruit and veg, but I'm not singing happy birthday to it twice. I'm dubious about whether that really works anyway.

No, you're right. What are the chances of a cabbie and a nurse in the same gaff being a super spreader?

There have been 56 new cases of Covid-19 confirmed by the Department of Health, bringing the total number of confirmed cases here to 27,313.
