For those of us who have to take the plunge and change car a little guidance from the powers that be would be nice. Are they gonna ban diesel cars. Are they gonna ban petrol cars? If so, when? How long of a transition period will we get? My next car will be for 5 years so a little guidance would be good from our masters. For those that just bought a new car or signed a hp agreement, oops.

I just don't trust hybrid cars yet with their poxy battery that goes dead. Me mate had to get jumped already a few times coz his prius is lying up. Id prefer an automatic diesel or petrol for now. Somehow id feel a tad more comfortable running low on juice in the middle of nowhere than a prius.

Maybe that was worded wrong. Id trust a conventional car over a hybrid if I knew there was a bit of a risk involved, like possible breakdowns or so. I just see hybrids and the like as the Fisher price of engines as far as reliability is concerned. Maybe they need to be around and refined a bit more. Can't see battery trucks coming in any time soon, lugging heavy loads for miles. I need a bit more convincing.

Yea I discovered the prius 12 v battery weakness for meself last week wen it wouldnt start again an the 2 yer old battery
Was fuked ..........and a big disappointment....
But compared to flywheel and timing chain costs on a diesel
Its livable .......the big battery failing is a different matter tho ....I've yet to experience that and no doubt I'll be unhappy but
Yu have to factor in the changing times ....and if freenow are offering a electric option ........its really another example of trend an change ...eamon ryan and his ilk cud very well exclude diesels in the near future so investing in a diesel car over a ten yer period say ....wud be a huge gamble in me humble opinion

I was the same horse but i was always a bit of an (as my missus calls me) eco geeko....when the 2nd gen Prius came out in 2004,the salesman in the local Toyota dealer threw the keys at me one day to the demo he was driving,i was sold after the test drive and decided i'd get one in 06,never had a days problem with it,i was sorry i changed it for a 2011(in 2015)..i wouldn't have had to change it till next year(15 yr rule) had i kept it.

Only available in saloon or estate....no hatchback....the thing about Toyota is that their hybrid is around a long time and they ironed out the problems in their 1st gen......Ford are sorta newcomers to the hybrid market and sell in small numbers in the UK....i personally haven't seen one on Irish roads,i know they've been in the States (mainly SUV models) ...don't know why it's taken them so long to bring it to the european market.

There was a green leaf icon on my driver profile for about three years back when it was called Mytaxi.It's actually been an option in other countries for years AFAIK.The hybrid thing is just another gimmick to keep our attention away from the 15% commission and other gripes we might have with Freenow.
The real losers could be the mini wheely lads that depend on Freenow.None of their vehicles are hybrids or electric.

Back to the original post this Eco car thing is starting on Monday Sept 7, I got an email to say I'm already included.I'm not even an ambassador or working.
This will be interesting to see if anyone on here is negatively impacted because they don't drive a hybrid/leccy heap.

I drove tru town last nite .....ther was fuk all taxis out ...tink I seen 2 on the n11 on me way back from the country ....
It was depression.....2 cars on the green ....shelbourne looked raped without the statues .....wat a fuking crime under the nose of this government.... to allot American to alter the facade of a listed building....said it all about the state of this country ......anyway....ther was few in in any the restaurants at least the ones yu cud look into ... fire looked full ....2 taxis parked dawson st .....shelbourne quiet ....ivy empty ...but that was dying a death anyway ......

I'm feeling kinda the same way there octy, 6 months is a long time to be out. The way I look at it though is that it has been much much longer since i worked for someone else and that thought scares me more than strangers in me car. I'm sure we'll be back 20 minutes and it'll be like we never left.

It certainly isn't my ink squirting buddy but as you say there's not much of a choice. I'll go back in a few weeks without stickers but iffin I'm not making my crust I'll sticker up because according to the lickey lackeys there's no shortage of work when youre an ambassador. Only thing is it'll get to a stage where everyone's an ambassador but at least you have your green machine there for an edge on your competitors. I'll be going hybrid too just not sure which type yet.

I had me heart set on an automatic avensis octy but after much pondering and fn already starting down the eco cab route I think at this stage a hybrid is the way forward. Are there any other decent Toyota hybrids out there? The thing my mate hates the most about the prius is its too low down. He says he has serious issues trying to get over ramps when there's people on board. Curses the car at every opportunity. Quite frankly I'm surprised he hasn't burnt it yet. I'll let him know though that you think he's a secret boy George coz he hates his prius. Maybe that'll change his tune.

It does feel like a bit cramped bumper car ..and it's not comfortable for me ...the roof is too low ....the seat belts in the back are not spring loaded enough and are always getting caught in the door an denting the back door frame...for ocd autism spectrum like me ....that's catastrophic.....
The central consul cnuts me leg ...the seat is just shite ....thers no comfort....but I've learned to pit up wit it ....
On the promise that its extremely reliable...and its sparingly economical ...tink I told ya all this ....if yur 5' 10 " i tink yu said .....then yur probably on to a winner ....like i said before ...test drive one ......I was in the older ones and they feel very rattly ....so far mine is like a feeling like hovercraft over bumps ....very quiet .....the ramps can be a problem...I learned that the hard way wit 4 fatties in the car one day.......
Yur going have to buy at least hybrid......anything else is silly now .....the greens are on the rise again an already since the pandemic ther shooting across our bow......

I get the stereo thing. One other thing that bugs the dung outta me is some bollix getting in when you're listening to Ciara Kelly or Gold Radio, and the prick decides to put his/her own music on nice and loud on the phone with no headphones on. I'm thinking "don't mind me you ignorant prick, I wasn't listening to that anyway". I couldn't be bothered arguing. Gave that up a long time ago. There's no rarin' on some of today's kids.

There's a fella here that drives a corolla hybrid. Swears by it. Lovely looking yoke. I don't have the nitty-gritty on it but might be worth a look. Probably not cheap.

The NTA see fit to throw 55mill at various councils to improve the pedestrian and cycling facilities whereas taxi drivers are required to invest in a WAT/H to realise a maximum 10k grant....i'd say most of that 55mill will be squandered with no accountability.

I don't think there was ever a good time to spend 30k on a car.If you keep it for 6/7/8 years you'll might get your moneys worth.
Bottom line is you won't get away with spending less than 1500/2500 on a vehicle.Buy the cheaper option and you risk mechanical failure that you can't afford to fix.Then you're going down to MABS wondering where it all went wrong.

The NTA see fit to throw 55mill at various councils to improve the pedestrian and cycling facilities whereas taxi drivers are required to invest in a WAT/H to realise a maximum 10k grant....i'd say most of that 55mill will be squandered with no accountability.

We dont have to piss off the public at all,and we can STILL get results.if the drivers were up for it,all they have to do would be to go into Dublin early in the morning,take up every available parking spot around merrion square,fitzwilliam square,etc everyehere the suits usually park their cars,when they come into town and find no parking spots available,they will be on to leinster house to give us what we want.problem solved,and you are not pissing the public off either
