Title: PUP reduced
Post by: Justin Time on September 22, 2020, 01:24:55 pm
So today for many the PUP was reduced.
My understanding was that if you were receiving 350 euro it was to be reduced to 300 euro and those receiving 250euro it would be reduced to 200 euro.
( I stand corrected)

Up until today i was getting the 350 but today only 250. ( i was expecting 300) Have I got it wrong ? or have the social got it wrong and sent me the wrong amount?
Thanks

Did you get a letter off them Justin? I did. Mine also went from 350 to 250. On the back if the letter it has the figures from my last tax return. If you declared less than 300 a week, after expenses,  you go on the 250.

Justin why are you running a taxi with all the associated expenses when you're on the scratcher.Bit silly really IMO.Cancel your insurance and you'll instantly put 40/50 a week back in your account.

And just in case nobody told you you will be getting reduced to 203 on Febuary 1 should you still need it.

Yes i posted this before, BUT the insurance people told me IF i reduce my insurance to domestic I HAVE to notify the NTA, who will "suspend my licence".
However, you can only do this for 3 months, and thats expired, thats why i went back onto taxi insurance.
Thanks.

Justin my plate is lapsed. It doesn't matter as currently there are no late renewal fees.I can reactivate it for up to a year.So you're paying out money now that you might need in January. It isn't gonna get busier that's for certain.

Your plate is lapsed? I only sent a mail to the NTA the other day to ask if I could suspend my licence again and they said no, i could only do so for 3 mths!!!

Justin if you cancel your insurance it lapses automatically. Then you have up to 12 months to reactivate it.The NTA will notify you when it lapses. No big deal. There is no reason not to laspe it unless you plan on working.

Jesus Mary and holy Saint Joseph I wish could get away with declaring less than 300 pw! Sure that wouldn't cover the car loan, insurance, nct, suit, services, petr'l, donuts, kebabs, and all before you put a pan of Brennan's bread (tadayas bread, tadaya) and whatever other random fuk ups the car decides to throw your way every second month.
Do some of these guys only declare that they're working 18 hours a week?
What's the tax bill after deductions? A fiver or summat??

Thanks I'll let them know, I thought by them saying I could only suspend it for 3 months meant I had to go back on taxi insurance.

My 250 was based on last year's returns for 2018 which admittedly i didnt work that year as much as usual.  I had a lot of stuff going on. I'll be submitting my returns for last year in the next few weeks so I'm hoping I'll get bumped back up to 300 then. Unless the put everyone back to 350 which is looking increasingly possible.  Hopefully.

The pricks knocked me off the PUP  when I hit 66,its fukkin outrageous that they have the cheek to even call the state pension a social welfare payment considering its something you pay into all your working life

I think its grossly unfair to divide your earnings by 52 for an average weekly wage. Are we not entitled to 2 weeks holidays per year? If it had of been divided by 50 weeks I may just have made the 300 a week.

Should be divided by 47. 4 weeks hols and at least 1 week sick.

I was watching an Taoiseach on the telly in the dail earlier and he said PUP levels won't be reviewed until the budget.

Tony I'm sure you were buiser in 2019.If you ask them to review it with the later numbers you should be backdated all them lost €50s.

I haven't done my returns for 2019 yet plus I purchased a new car last year so it wouldn't make a difference

Tony I wonder can ya not claim any capital allowances for 2019 then claim more for 2020/21/22/23...etc.

I'm sure your accountant will have some workaround.

It's a shite system.I genuinely don't think I've ever gotten paid for 52 weeks in any job.Wonder what it's like.

Don't know if this will help. Anyway, they'll give it to you in one paw and take it from the other next year(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200922/53ab2bcda938c0efc849d7e26b103767.jpg)

There can't be that many taxi drivers making a loss this year unless they bought a big jammer last year and have big capital allowances.

That doesn't make sense. As a self-employed person it's up to you to budget for your/your employees sick/holiday leave and remunerate yourself/them accordingly.
