Title: New Tread
Post by: john m on October 23, 2020, 10:30:05 am
Well something a bit stronger than tread but not as strong as rope .Im looking for a 5km ball of twine that I can tie onto me doorknob when I go out for a walk to make sure I dont stray beyond the 5Km Lidil or Aldi dont have them does anybody know where I can get one and how much ?

There's a hell of a lot of traffic moving during this lockdown. Not the same buzz at all.Seems almost normal out there.

I wouldnt like to take the chance if you strayed a few centimeters over you could go to jail or something I think the twine is the only way to go .

Use google maps...works great if you want to get lost in a taxi

Two hours reading this to try to discover if string will stretch due to athmospheric conditions and even though I measured that there was only 5km on the Spool I might stray a bit ...https://courses.lumenlearning.com/physics/chapter/13-2-thermal-expansion-of-solids-and-liquids/

Now while I was reading about Thermo Dynamics and expansion I came up this gem that every taxi driver needs to know ...Differences in the thermal expansion of materials can lead to interesting effects at the gas station. One example is the dripping of gasoline from a freshly filled tank on a hot day. Gasoline starts out at the temperature of the ground under the gas station, which is cooler than the air temperature above. The gasoline cools the steel tank when it is filled. Both gasoline and steel tank expand as they warm to air temperature, but gasoline expands much more than steel, and so it may overflow.

This difference in expansion can also cause problems when interpreting the gasoline gauge. The actual amount (mass) of gasoline left in the tank when the gauge hits “empty” is a lot less in the summer than in the winter. The gasoline has the same volume as it does in the winter when the “add fuel” light goes on, but because the gasoline has expanded, there is less mass. If you are used to getting another 40 miles on “empty” in the winter, beware—you will probably run out much more quickly in the summer.

Yer man what runs the Gards says he will do what he is told when it comes to fines .So after exhaustive research on the Great String Theory Not even Sheldon or yer man in the Wheelchair could work out String Theory but I have come up with a theory .If you are going to use a ball of string to decide how far you are away from your gaff then you should cut 10%off your 5Km ball of string to allow for the Thermo Dynamic stretch in the material based on indistry best practice ..Cotton fiber constructions: While not known for UV stability or abrasion resistance as are the industrial grade fibers of   cotton it is reinforced and stretches fairly low with about 5-10% stretch at break point. Not a bad  in low demand outdoor application.

That reminds me of the RMS Tayleur that crashed into lambay island on its maiden voyage to Australia from liverpool ......the rigging ( twine an
String an rope )  wasnt pre stretched so they couldn't control the bloody thing ....an its compass didnt work cause it was one them new fangled iron hull ships ....and the crew wer all Chinese who wer offered free trip to Australia if they worked for no wages an wer all going to Melbourne for the gold rush that started but the cnuts didnt have a word of English and didnt understand instructions from the captain ....
The chinese broke a mast and crawled off the ship on the mast that stretched to the rocks  an everyone else fukin snuffed it an drowned cause nobody got swimming lessons yers ago .....
Hate them chinese ...

Same problem Rodent atmospheric expansion .

I'm pretty sure the atmosphere will contract (quite considerably) if/when you step into it!
