The Scotch house was a gay haunt in the 70s and 80s. My aunt May worked in the Cafe right beside the camera shop. The go-to person if there ever any bother was a guy nicknamed Mother!

Bob, you might remember, The pub in Mount Merrion, was it called the Sportsman's Inn?

Live band played there in winter, and in Refugio's in Ibiza in the summer. Their signature tune was Lola!

Who done the Sunday Holy Hour ?Get the Bus out to Tallaght as that was outside the City Limits and did not need to close for the Holy Hour on Sunday .Go to Bridget Burks ,Molloys Foxes Covet,Jobstown House or if somebody was driving the Embankment .Start portering@ 12.30 till about 7 then load up the car driver two front seat passengers six in the back three sitting on the other threes lap and if somebody was stuck for a lift put him in the boot .and drive back to Ballyer in time to get a seat in the Hunting Lodge .As soon as they done away with the Holy hour a lot of pubs like the Blue Lantern ,Embankment ,Blackchurch Inn lost their appeal .Pub trade is Dying Insurance killing it .You can add Ballyfermot Club,Cherry Orchard Social Club and the Gales to bars that closed .Make a great subject for some University Head to do for a Degree in Sociology .Did drugs lead to the closing of the Pubs or did the Closing of the pubs lead to the explosion in drug use .

This article says there are 751 pubs in Dublin. That's from 2015. I wonder how many now, and how many will see the end of 2021.

From being the dance capital of Europe 1n the early 90s, clubbing is all but extinct.

2019;

Sustained number of licensed premises – Pub registrations remained stable between 2017 and 2018; about 1,500 pubs have closed across Ireland since 2005, representing a drop of over 17%. Currently there are just over 7,000 pubs in Ireland.
Positive industry sentiment – Market confidence continues to drive refurbishment and extension projects in pubs and restaurants across the country.
Headwinds – Staffing, insurance costs as well as increased competition are considered the sector’s biggest challenges. Increase focus on food means pubs are competing more and more with hotels and restaurants for their customers.
Transaction Activity – A number of high profile pubs have hit the market this year in Dublin and regionally including: Copper Face Jacks, Dublin guiding €40m; The Admirals, Louth guiding €475k; Uncle Tom’s Cabin, Dublin guiding €3.75m; The Magic Carpet, Co. Dublin guiding €12m; Lenehan’s, Kilkenny; The Jar, Dublin. Bruxelles in Dublin transacted at the end of Q1 for a reported €10m & Davy Byrnes for an estimated €4.5m.
Brexit – The LVA recently reported that 55% of the Dublin pubs surveyed were concerned about Brexit. Bars and Restaurants were hit by declining levels of British visitors in 2018, but Americans have helped to offset this. The trend is expected to continue in 2019.

The Chariot was a good cabaret venue. I remember seeing the late Matt Monro there in the mid seventies. Happy memories.

Monro was a heavy smoker and battled alcoholism from the 1960s until 1981.[12][13] He died from liver cancer on 7 February 1985 at the Cromwell Hospital, Kensington, London,[14] aged 54, leaving a widow, Mickie, and three children: Mitchell, Michele, and Matthew. Mitchell, a professional pilot, also died of cancer in 2003. Matt Monro was cremated at Golders Green Crematorium. The ashes were removed by the family.[15] A memorial service was also held in Harrow.

Mortons in firhouse, earmarked for houses like across the road from Bridget burkes or the mill these days. Does anyone remember barn stormers  was in town on the lower queys somewhere,  an early shop in the 90's?  Alex Higgins was in there one morning playing pool, we were hanging.
