If you read any newspaper .The rollout of vaccine's is very slow we dont have enough .Pubs are now expected to remain Closed till September .They are testing the Astra vaccine on children even though we were told kids cant catch the Scooby Flu .No real plan for leaving Certs the Junior Cert is almost forgotten .No light at the end of the tunnel .How long before people say Just Fuck right off we have enough and we dont believe a word you are saying and the whole thing just breaks down .I went out about 3AM this morning for a Bottle of Milk met two old people in their 70s at the Garage out walking .They said they go for a walk early in the morning to avoid people they need to get out of the house and they are sick and tired of this lockdown but then he said he feels guilty that young people cant go out to play because they are told that the lockdown is to protect old people as they are the most venerable .I never thought of it how many old people actually feel like that .That they are the reason we are locked Down .
I know my kids are pissed off and fed up with Lockdowns and Lies now I know older people are pissed off Im pisses off .If there isint a big Big breakthrough soon .I think this Government are going to lose control so will a lot of other Countries .I said this before We have some of the best pharma Experts in Ireland we should be testing the Russian and Chinease vaccines to see if they work and if they do then we should buy them and Fuck the EU and their failed Vaccine Purchase Scheme .
The Shine is Gone off Leos Shit ,Mick from Cork is out of his Debt ,Dr Hooligan has sort of disappeared to be replaced by the overpaid head of the HSE Donnolly is simply incompetent should be sacked bring back the Early School Leaver Harris to Health at least he can spoof give people some hope .If Mick from Cork dosent take a Risk open up the Shops and Factories .I think people will just rebel enough is enough .This Government is incompetent' dosent generate any great trust that they have a plan or know what they are doing .

The Pandemic Unemployment Payment (PUP) and Covid business supports will remain in place for many months to come before they are eventually phased out, the Minister for Public Expenditure has said.
Michael McGrath has said the Government will publish a plan on current pandemic supports along with the revised Covid roadmap next week to provide "a line of sight" to workers and businesses on when supports will be removed.
Asked whether the massive increase in spending on Covid measures both this year and last would have to be covered through an increase in taxes, he said he hoped the "bulk of the heavy lifting" will be done through increased spending when hospitality and retail reopens.
But he said a commission on taxation and welfare will be set up in the coming weeks and that will lay out options for the Government,

Mr McGrath said: "The eventual withdrawal and tapering off of supports will have to be done in tandem with the public health environment within which we are all living."
However, the Fianna Fáil TD warned that this will have to be done in a "very careful and gradual way" adding that the Government is "conscious that for so many businesses the continuation of these supports is the very difference between mere survival and going under, and similarly for households in the form of Pandemic Unemployment Payment."
Mr McGrath would not be drawn on exactly how much longer financial supports will continue, but he said that a €5.5bn contingency and recovery fund has been budgeted for and a further €6.5bn has been directed to various Departments to invest in Covid measures.
"It is true to say that given the level of restrictions that we're all living under at the moment and the very significant economic impact that that is having we are now using up those resources, and that will continue over the next number of months, but we believe that it is the right thing to do."
Mr McGrath said €23bn has been added to the State's debt bringing it to €235bn since the start of the pandemic.
"We are availing, to the maximum extent possible, of the very favourable borrowing conditions, by refinancing our debt and availing of the longest possible maturity. So while our stock of debt is rising, the cost of servicing it is falling and the average interest rate is falling.
"It is our view that the reopening of the economy eventually when it's safe to do so and getting people back to work, will do the bulk of the heavy lifting when it comes to closing the budget deficit," he told RTÉ's News At One programme.

This is the Minister For Finance in waiting .What fucking money will people who have been on Covid Coin Puppydole for over a year have to spend when the shops open .Anybody with real coin is fucking off to marbella to spend coin not in Willy Flynns Corner Shop .The last line is the truth cuts to welfare and more tax.
There must be an election in the offing promising more covid Coin .
-
Indeed. The thread of a €500 fine for going on a foreign holiday proved completely ineffective hence it's being increased to €2,000. What the taxation commission needs to take from that is that all air fares should be subject to a taxation surcharge of at least €972 going forward.

There is a clear divide between the PUP receivers and the people who have been able to continue working through the pandemic as the uninterrupted wage receivers will have extra money because of less to spend it on whilst the puppy gang won't have a shilling.
I don't know about the rest of you but I've been losing money every week for the past year.

I have 140 in folding and a deuce @2/1 Mick from Cork wont visit 16000 Penselvania Ave in March that hasent peen paid out on yet .

The younger not so young lad made a killing on Ethereum... every time I tell him it'll all end in tears he shows me another profit hike... and the little fucker is on top rate puppy dole despite allegedly being a full time student.

Nice bet.
-
I'm thinking by the time I make my capital gains return the welfare might be looking for some money back.Tell the young lad to be careful. All trading is liable to capital gains AFAIK.Probably the most tax I've ever paid.
-
He's already had the cheek to ask me how to dodge tax! I told him it won't be an issue when he loses his town halls...

I read an article in the New York Times that Biden had no plans to meet any world leaders before the G7 that ruled out the Busmans Son From Cork and his bowl of Shamrock .Powers were betting 5/6 yes or no then it went 1/3 yes and 2/1 no .I thought there was value .2/1 in a 2 horse race .

The only thing I found was something on boardszzzz.ie where someone recommended setting up a company as a trader then the capital gains wouldn't apply but instead a person would pay regular income tax on any gains.Other than that I'm clueless.Might ring revenue and see what they can tell me.Anyway that's another days work.
-
A self managed pension fund might be worth considering.
-
When do you become liable for Capital Gains .Is it after every trade or at the end of a fiscal year ?If its annual just reinvest the money before the end of your fiscal year and show no profit .?
-
It's an annual thing... you can offset losses against gains.
-
Yes the pension seems to be the way do go RC.Unfortunately right now, I'd rather be middle-aged with a little extra than old and rich right now.
Apparently I'm supposed to be calculating CGT on every trade.I dunno if I'll have time to go over hundreds of trades so I'll do it the wrong way by calculating overall gains versus losses and hope they'll leave me alone.
A younger me would just take a chance and see if revenue ever cop on but I'm feeling less lucky as I get older.Like everytime you get on a plane the way you slightly increase the chances of crashing into a mountain.

Can they check how much yu have in yur paypal account?
Get it sent there ? Me paintings money is sittin.in me paypal account....actually if anyone is listenin...the owlomes across the halls paypal account :-\ :-*

There's nothing wrong with the way you're doing it, MfH. Your CGT liability is on the net gain in the relevant year i.e. after deducting losses. You can calculate that by subtracting the value of your fund at the start of the year from the value at the end of the year and get the same result as a linear book of account would show. Depending on your investment strategy you could realise losses to reduce gains. Of Course, all relevant fees are deductible. This is a reasonable simple guide:
https://www.moneyguideireland.com/tax-on-selling-shares-in-ireland.html (https://www.moneyguideireland.com/tax-on-selling-shares-in-ireland.html)
Provided you can explain any transfers into a ROI (possibly EU these days) bank account in your name you should be alright with that, Octy. Of course any Paypal account in your own name is likely to be discoverable through transfers to relevant bank accounts in your own name.

Occi look into getting an artists tax exemption .If you sold Artwork and can prove it then you are an artist .Also look into Artists Dole .You can claim and work its a pilot scheme at the moment look into it before all the places are taken up .
-
Thanks Rc.When lost 14k on one day a few weeks ago I convinced myself I was reducing my CGT bill significantly.Easy come easy go..
-
You could keep your mouth shut and say you thought gambling income is exempt (as it is) if questioned!
-
If I thought that would work I'd give it a go RC.A Taxi driver keeping his mouth shut is surely an impossible task?
Unfortunately all these trading sites require a PPSN.I'll be on someone's radar at some point. If I lose my bollox I'll owe them zero like ya said.

Could you father Ted your Gains and have them resting in your account at assessment time .Say you bought Prize bonds .Would that be considered an Investment and using funds for further gains so delaying the day of judgement until you actually liquidate your entire funds into cash ?
-
Whether day trading amounts to gambling or trading in the traditional sense is actually an interesting question. I'm sure it arose before when spread betting gained popularity but I can't remember how that was determined, except that spread betting firms were determined to be financial institutions rather than bookmakers for the purpose of licencing/regulation.

As an old boss of mine once remarked, if the left hand knew what the right hand was doing we'd have no work, that's not how things are done in Ireland! However, that was over 30 years ago, back when motor tax was for snobs... we're a lot more anglicised these days, probably.
-

Not really. Reinvesting a gain wouldn't eliminate the gain. If you think in terms of an investment fund, the value of the gain would still be in the fund as prize bonds.

but as the gain was reinvested you never realised that gain you have reinvested for future gain and only when you realize that gain should you become taxable .If you buy a gaff for investment and it appreciates annually you dont pay the Penelty until you actually dispose of or realize its value .
-
The gain is realised once the shares are sold. A self managed pension fund could work how you suggest subject to certain limitations.
