Connolly had also been charged with IRA membership and with possession of a firearm on the same occasion.

A woman closely related to Real IRA killer Sean Connolly was fighting for her life last night after she was shot along with another man during an internal row between IRA criminals in the capital.
The innocent 30-year-old woman was shot in the chest and arm at a flat in Bernard Curtis House, Bluebell in Dublin 12, just before 1pm yesterday. She was rushed to St James's Hospital and remained in a critical condition last night having underwent surgery.
A man, in his early 30s, was also shot alongside her in the apartment. He fled the scene and later presented himself at St James's Hospital suffering from a gunshot wound. His condition is described as serious. Senior sources say there was an "IRA meeting" at Bernard Curtis House involving a number of dissident criminals when the double shooting took place.
Several criminals linked to the Real IRA attended the meeting when the in-fighting began and the shooting took place, sources say. At least three men were in garda custody last night, two in Kevin Street and one at Kilmainham.
A source said: "This was some kind of IRA war council that went south, and two people were shot. There was in-fighting going on and it led to the double shooting. The consequences of this will lead to even bigger repercussions and frictions within the Real IRA. Sean Connolly will not take this lying down in prison." The 30-year-old woman is closely related to the IRA killer, who is serving life for murdering veteran crime boss Eamon Kelly.
Kelly (65) was shot dead as he returned home from a betting shop in December 2012.

Further violence between dissident republicans and a Dublin criminal gang is feared after a young mum was left critically injured in a shooting at her home.
A man was also shot, and suffered serious injuries in a linked incident, both of which occurred in a south inner city flats complex on Saturday.
Gardaí are investigating if the three dissidents were sent down from the North by a senior New IRA figure to shoot the man "as a warning".
It is not clear if this warning is linked to either a personal row or a criminal feud. A number of sources have suggested it does not appear to be linked to “republican” issues, which raises questions as to what level in the New IRA knew about this.
Shot in the stomach
It is thought the man was shot in the stomach by the dissidents and his body dumped. He later attended hospital.
During this time, an armed gunman targeted a flat in the Bernard Curtis complex in Bluebell, perhaps on the suspicion the dissidents were using it.
But the gunman ended up shooting a young mother several times at her home, inflicting critical injuries.
There are reports a well-known local criminal is suspected of being involved in the shooting.
The three republicans were arrested by gardaí afterwards, but later released without charge.
All three are known in republican circles and one of them is the son of a senior dissident leader. All are originally from Belfast.
A fourth man, not linked to the trio, was also arrested.
Gardaí are gathering CCTV footage in the area.
Local gardaí are being assisted by the Special Detective Unit.
Some sources fear the dissidents “with their own image to protect” will seek revenge on local criminals.

Look at the Jobs that the IDA sponsor already billion dollar companies .We dont create many semi skilled or even skilled jobs .If you dont know Computers or Pharma our government dont seem to think you exist .In Inchicore before the EEC we built busses and trains .VW built cars so did Fiat on the Kylemore Road but as soon a the EEC came along and import duty was done away with or government subsidies were outlawed we lost all our manufacturing .Men have been emasculated over the past 50 years .The likes of my old man would never of considered working in a shop or waiting tables or selling sambos ,They saw a purpose in their labour a hard days work for a hard days pay was what they expected .I often wondered if the reason a lot of fellas end up in the drugs trade is because of the risk involved as well as reward as Males have evolved as hunter gatherers and have always faced risks .Not a lot of risk selling a pair of Dingo Jeans and a check shirt or a Bacon with Sweet Corn Bap .

I saw an article online yesterday saying the government want to encourage apprenticeships,i know i commented on this before that it'll cost more to get a plumber or chippy or whatever cos the emphasis has been on students goin to college, often doing degrees and end up stacking shelves in Tesco(i'm being flippant but i'm sure there are cases) cos there's no demand for whatever they studied in,i'm glad my own yungfella has got an apprenticeship,it's deffo a life skill,he can always go backbto college later if he feels the need.
I see the govt are offering 3k to employers to take on an apprentice.
-
Yes Hal, later study is always an option. My own not so young young lad is a chippie by trade, but managed to get a masters in applied pyschology, when construction took a belt in the last recession, and is now studying for a degree in data analysis. He went back on his tools when marriage was on the horizon a few years back, and now is off them again, as he got a good job as a finishing foreman with one of the big outfits, and has had other good offers to move again. There is no doubt that the application to study etc, was of use during interviews.
-
only problem with an apprenticeship is which one .I made my own kitchen a few years back bought the Chip cut it edged it made the carcasses .Mate had a Universal saw spindel and planer made furniture out of Palletts or any old packing crates we could get .Now all that sort of work is done by punching a code into a machine .Lads in Softline Panels on half a quid above minimum wage turning out hundreds of carcases a day while wood machinists drive forklifts .My mates cousin went to the Apprentice Olympics years ago won a Gold as a Fitter turner now all that work is done with auto cad download the programme and insert it into the machine no skill needed .He runs the place and is the only tradesman in there .My first gig after I left school was as an apprentice Cutter in the Rag trade .The teacher told us we were wasting our time as there was no work to go to and anyway the whole thing would be lazer operated .We thought Lazers were what Spock anf Kirk had for shooting Aliens .
-
Electrician would be a good trade,i still think chippying is a good trade also along with plumbing but you need to be able to work on boilers(gas and oil),still demand for mechanics but working with a main dealer selling hybrid/EV motors, that training will be invaluable into the future.
-
Hardly unexpected. Was Connolly not fucked of whatever republican group he was in? If memory serves he was running his own narcotics operation on the side or some such? The sister - who was shot - may still be an active member?

Connolly Family Press Statement regarding the shooting of their daughter and sister, Sinead, in Dublin on Saturday.
On Saturday March 6, our daughter and sister, Sinead, was critically injured in a gun attack in her home.
She is a single mum and was with her daughter when the attack took place. She was shot as she sat on her settee. Friends of her partner were also in the apartment at the time. One of them dragged the daughter out of view of the attacker while another immediately applied emergency first aid after the gunman had left. His prompt actions saved her life and gave her a fighting chance in hospital where, despite sustaining injuries that were critical, she is now recovering. We are eternally grateful.
We are deeply disheartened that some newspapers took it on themselves to run with wholly erroneous reports that the shooting was a result of an ongoing IRA feud and that there was an IRA gathering in the apartment at the time.
The only people in the apartment at the time were Sinead, her daughter, and her partner’s friends. Whatever political allegiances the friends had was not a factor in the attack.
The media outlets sought to hang their story on the history of our brother Sean who is currently in prison for IRA activity.
The attack is rooted in a long-standing local dispute. Sinead was shot by a person known to her. Despite press reports there is no link between it and Sean’s imprisonment.
Sean has called for calm and for no one, no matter how aggrieved they might feel, to even think about engaging in any sort of tit for tat. He is adamant that what happened to Sinead be visited on no other family. He insists that after many years of reflection he has come to the realisation that violence has no place in society and can never be a way to settle grievances or differences.
Sinead is a single parent, not a republican activist of any hue. Far from being the result of an IRA dispute the backdrop to the incident was a local culture of bullying.
That said, it is not our family’s intention to harbour hostility towards the attacker or his family. We thoroughly discourage the onset of such sentiment. The attacker has his issues, created in no small part by the conditions that dictate life in an under-resourced and deprived community scourged by a significant drug problem.
There are many young people growing up in communities where drugs and deprivation seem as natural as the dole queue. Let what happened to our sister and daughter, Sinead, be a salutary lesson to our youth. Drugs offer no escape, violence offers no solution.
Finally, we would like to thank the first responders from An Garda Siochana and the Health Service for their prompt assistance. We also are grateful to friends and neighbours of Sinead who have flooded us with messages of support and well wishes.

The biggest question raised is why the community is "scourged by a significant drug problem". Are they suggesting that Connolly's Clan/ASU is corrupt or incompetent in policing said community?

A 15-year-old boy is continuing to be treated in hospital today after he was the victim of an horrific assault in the capital’s south inner city after allegedly being lured to the scene by a girl.
Gardai suspect the teenager was lured to the Inchicore area by a girl before he was attacked by a gang of young youths some of whom are suspected of being armed with iron bars.
The boy who is from the Tallaght area suffered a broken leg, broken arm and several broken ribs.
The shocking incident happened at Vincent Street West in Inchicore at around 5pm yesterday and it is being investigated by Kilmainham gardai but no arrests have yet been made.
It is understood that the boy was too unwell to make a statement last night as he was being treated for his injuries in hospital.
“The victim travelled to the location to meet a girl and all the indications are that this was a set-up because when he arrived to the scene there were a group of male youths present as well as the juvenile female,” a senior source said.
“He then was very badly assaulted in an incident which was witnessed by a number of onlookers some of whom contacted the emergency services.
“Gardai are investigating whether this attack may have been organised online and are gathering CCTV from the location,” the source added.
When gardai arrived at the scene he was at a nearby Luas stop and he was then rushed to hospital.
By this stage his attackers had fled the area but sources say that gardai are confident of making arrests in the case.
They intend to speak to the boy later today and are hopeful of identifying who was involved in the savage attack.
This scum usually hang around the Spar Shop on Emmett Road .They travel from Tallaght and Town by Luas and hang around the Luas Stops along the Canal .

The Luas probably attracts them. I spent a good deal of my schooldays travelling the DART (or DAFT as we called it) line with a regular crew. I guess these days we would have been called a "gang", albeit some of us (the better class) in school uniform!

Three juvenile teenage boys have been arrested in relation to a horror assault on a 15-year-old boy who was attacked after he was allegedly lured to the scene by a girl.
Gardai suspect the teenager was lured to the Inchicore area by a girl before he was attacked by a gang of young youths some of whom are suspected of being armed with iron bars.
The boy, who is from the Tallaght, area suffered a broken leg, broken arm and several broken ribs.
The shocking incident happened at Vincent Street West in Inchicore at around 5pm last Sunday and it is being investigated by Kilmainham gardai.
Officers from the station arrested the trio this morning. They are from the locality and despite their young ages are already well known to officers.
They include two brothers and another teenage boy who have been released without charge after being detained for six hours today.
Detectives have established that robbery was not the motive for the attack and there may be in fact “no reason except pure thuggery” that the boy was savagely beaten.
“Gardaí have arrested three male juveniles today, Thursday 18th March 2021, in relation to an assault that occurred in the Saint Vincent West area of Inchicore on 14th March,” a garda spokesman said.
×
“All three have since being released for consideration of inclusion in the Juvenile Diversion Programme,” he added.
It is understood that the victim who is said to come from an “extremely decent” Tallaght family is making a good recovery from his injuries and has provided gardai with a statement.
The chief suspects for the brutal attack are a gang of feral teenage thugs who have been involved in a spate of muggings and have been wreaking havoc near the Luas Line along the Grand Canal for well over a year.
Gardai in Kilmainham are running a special operation to target the gang of teenage criminals who are responsible for multiple robberies of people along the Grand Canal near where there are a number of Luas stops.
There has been a big increase in robberies and muggings in locations including Bluebell, Inchicore and Drimnagh.
Around 10 suspects were identified, including two sets of brothers, who are all juveniles from the Inchicore and Drimnagh areas.
The teens are also suspected of carrying out a number of hijackings and motor vehicle thefts, with delivery drivers targeted in some instances.
Last March, gardai said that anti-social crime in the area around the Grand Canal in the capital had “dramatically declined” since the introduction of a special patrol but the problem has now got much worse in recent weeks.
The garda statement in March came just weeks before a a 26-year-old man was taken to hospital after being stabbed multiple times near the Goldenbridge Luas stop.
Last May it was reported that a woman being left seriously injured after being knocked down by a teenager on a scrambler motorbike, another woman’s hair being set on fire and a number of very violent assaults all in the Grand Canal area in Inchicore and Drimnagh.
On one weekend last September there were around a dozen violent incidents in the locality.
CCTV cameras on the Grand Canal have been vandalised and in some cases destroyed by local youths.
