Work is under way to pedestrianise four key streets in the city centre to help facilitate outdoor dining, Dublin City Council has confirmed.
The works began this week and will continue throughout the month as part of a wider programme being led by the Office of City Recovery.
From Monday, May 24, the following four streets will be either fully or partially traffic-free from 11am daily:
- Anne Street South, from the junction of Dawson Street
- South William Street, from Exchequer Street to the Brown Thomas car park exit
- Drury Street, from just after its junction with Fade Street to the Drury Street car park
- Dame Court, from Exchequer Street
The decision to carry out the works was made following successful trials that took place over six weekends in July and August last year.

If your eating on the Streets and a Junkie spits in your dinner do you have to pay the bill? If it starts to rain can you get up and leave without paying .If your attacked by a Seagull can you sue the Chef ?Seems like Hospitality are to gain at our expense WHY?

Delighted those streets are pedestrianised, i avoided them as best i could pre covid....passengers asking you to drop them to Kehoes on St Annes St.....Fachtna and Fiorella will have to walk from Dawson St now.....oh nooooo!!

I'd say the business owners are behind most of this.Marco Pierre Whites were really happy to see the taxi rank removed on Dawson street when I spoke to one of their staff last year.All the beeping and arguing from taxi drivers outsde didn't help our cause.
The manager of Hugos on Merrion row seemed to be supporting the pedestrian proposal on the news last week.I've seen drivers park up on South William Street blocking the middle of the road even though there's 20 cars and vans trying to get through.It's kinda our fault.Who wants a queue of dickheads parked outside of their premises.I'd say the Shelllbourne hotel were behind the rank closure there too.They only needs us there when they need us.

That's why i avoided MFH....arseholes sitting there blockin up the kip,suits me to drop them on Exchequer or Lwr Stephen St!!
