Title: NCT
Post by: Shallowhal on May 19, 2021, 08:36:19 pm
Was talking to my neighbour,NCT inspector, telling me that screens will need an E mark, was supposed to come into effect in May but has been put back for a while....also in June as part of the test cars will now have a diagnostic tool plugged into the OBD port,if the car doesn't connect it's a fail, also any lights on dash(check engine etc) will also result in a fail.

It seems as if the NCT people are trying everything to fail you. Given we are in a pandemic and screens are needed this effort of them having to have a E mark is ridiculous
As for the OBD port .  FFS

The missussss car failed a week ago on emissions...first year i didn't throw a litre of dipetane into a nearly empty tank...anyhoo,sorted and passed last Sunday....but there was also a visual on the sheet...an obstruction on the windscreen....phone holder!!....so remove phone holders also!!

i use dipetane on every fill up.
my dpf is gone and it really cleans up the exhaust fumes.
ye wanna throw it in first and then throw the fuel on top of it.
if you do it dudder way round it'll just float on top of the diesel in the tank and not mix fully.

I wonder why they wanna connect to the OBD port.Could they be trying to stop lads clearing codes from the waiting room while the car is on the ramp via bluetooth? That's what I was gonna do if I couldn't fix me heap last week.

Passed again anyway no probs.

They will be checking for egr delete, dpf delete, mileage clocking and "chipped" ECU'S.All except the mileage clocking will result in a fail.Clocked mileage will simply be reported to the customer.

A "chipped"ECU will require an engineers report to say the car is safe.

Did it this morning a screen is an automatic fail as it is a modification .I asked about Kitemarks or other marks lad said he was not aware of any just it was a non conforming modification .But if you fail it can be removed and its only a visual to confirm it is gone .I would suggest not fitting it for suitability as well .Not worth the grief .

I just spoke with my neighbour John....he's not aware of any automatic failure for having a screen installed,he did say that the seats should be able to move back and forth although he says he never moves anyones seats...unless it's a womans car where the seat is generally on top of the steering wheel, the E mark on the screens were meant to be implemented in early May but has been postponed until further notice.

I know they're charging €150 for late renewals(was €500),so if you let your licence lapse that charge will apply, not too sure about straight renewals.

Was in Fonthill this morning and lad in a taxi was failed for having a screen .He removed it and called the examiner out to confirm it was gone and got the cert .Driver said he was told it was an obstruction ,didnt say obstructing what ,like you say can you move the seats ?Just if you are going for the NCT it might be best to remove it I did and it wont be fitted for suitability either .

I found in my Octavia that you can't pull the rear door handles fully back to open the back doors.  The doors still open with a half-pull (if you know what I mean).  That might be a problem for suitability and as well as NCT?

I take my screen out for both NCT and suitability.  No point in complicating things  O:-)
