Title: Best way to handle this?
Post by: taxi1990 on May 26, 2021, 12:08:55 pm
There is one 24 hour taxi rank space where I work. The rank is clearly marked.

It is right outside a business. The owner of the business started using it from mon to sat 9am to 6pm, 6 days a week.
I challenged them on the matter, they stopped parking there but now are back to their old tricks.
There is no traffic warden at the moment and the guards aren't bothered about it by the looks of it.

Put a sign on it saying this selfish cunt from name the business is preventing taxi drivers from earning a living and you from getting a taxi by parking in the taxi rank .Keep a supply of them in the car and put one on every time in fact get sticky paper like they have if you park in the Hospital .Print them out so they cant be traced to you by handwriting .That should soften her cough .

No clampers in my area unfortunately.

I like that idea John. I wouldn't call them a cunt though, even if they are one. if I could put stickers on the windows it would be great but not sure if that would be legal.

I think I put a piece of paper under their wiper before saying 24 hour taxi rank, maybe a month before I had a word with them. You know what some people are like though, they think the rules don't apply to them. Id say they would like it if I stood in their door way and stopped customers entering their premises.

I might park in front of her car octavia so she is blocked in when she finishes work, but id be on double yellows then and the guards would probably get me towed away.

I might call in to the council and have a word with them or the Garda station.

Go to your local Library see if they have a Photo Coppier and print off a load of hand bills and hand them out .Just say people parking in this taxi rank are denying you your taxi service .Get any other local drivers to get involved .

will do.

The other taxi drivers in the area are too soft, they just let things like that go and don't kick up a fuss.

I had a similar issue before with another business owner who hung a hanging basket over the taxi sign, I asked him to move it a couple of times, he never did (arrogant prick) The co council asked him to move it, he tried to ignore them but then they got the Guards to get him to move it.

it might have been but that was people parking there to go into a shop for 5 minutes. this time it is someone using the rank as their own personal parking space.

Ah yeah no probs...It's not uncommon on this forum to see repetition.Usually it's John M though. He might start off asking for a jump start but finishes the thread talking about his lover boyfriend Leo.

Back on topic....the public only pretend they like us when they need us and don't care about us the rest of the week.Once you realise that you'll understand why we continue to get shat on.

I said to a cop "Could I get into trouble for calling you a c*nt?" he said yes.

I said "Could I get into trouble for thinking it?" no he said.

So I said, "I think you're a c*nt"!! rofl

Defecate in his shop.  And if asked why, reply that he's coming into your workplace and shitting on your ability to make a living.

Does he leave the rank at predictable times, e.g. for lunch?  Then maybe double-park a few minutes before, walk away, and block him in for 30 mins.

On a serious note, is the rank used by taxis all the time?  It could be that he's been looking at an empty rank for the past few months and thought to himself, if the taxis won't use it, I will.

Several time/dated photos, plus letter to Local Government , and also article to local community rag highlighting the issue, without naming or shaming.

There are two 8pm to 8am spaces then one 24 hour space.
I might block her in some day before lunch. The car is usually there all day except maybe gone for an hour around lunch time.

No, the rank is only used the odd time by Taxis but its either a 24 hour rank or it isnt. I asked the co council to mark it on the road, they did but it didnt make a bit of difference. even if they saw an empty rank, I asked her not to park there as its for taxis so if she has any manners she should park somewhere else and not be so lazy to think she can park right outside her shop in a 24 hour taxi rank. You would think a business owner would have more cop on.

Depends how well connected the business owner is, I guess. For years the beautiful seaside resort town of Balbriggan could boast the only taxi rank in the free State that carried a "Hackney Only" plate on the pole. A taximan pointed out the illegality of the sign and it was removed. A few years down the road the rank was also removed! Apparently it takes considerably longer to decommission a rank than to commission one.

Informal ranks have taken their place.

I don't think they are all that well connected. it seems to be a busy business. I get the impression the owner is one of those business owners who when business in booming, they think they are untouchable and can do what they like. I never let something like this go.

Two points you've made on here t1990:

The rank is only used by taxis the odd time
It's a busy business

Maybe don't stress either of those to any great extent if complaining to the council or the local Gardai.
