Did I hear this right or are e scooters allowed in bus lanes? Heard them talking about them on newstalk earlier today.
Also I wouldnt use one if you gave me one for free, most people I see using them could just as easily walk, lazy feckers. probably the same people who pay for everything with a card or phone, too lazy to walk to an ATM.

AFAIK, they're still illegal on any part of the road. It's just the Guards don't give a fluck about enforcing the law. They're changing the law to make them legal but the devil will be in the detail. Motorbikes are not allowed in either but they regularly do.
Should be fun when someone tries to bring in the Citroen Ami which is a small car that can be driven by 14 year olds in France!

Citroën’s Ami, the tiny two-seater electric car that was first revealed as a concept last year, will be released this spring. The Ami is absolutely tiny at just 2.41 meters (7 feet, 11 inches) long, and is technically classed as a “light quadricycle” similar to the Renault Twizy, which means it can be driven by teenagers as young as 14-years old in France and 16-years old in the rest of Europe. It also doesn’t require a driving license to operate. Citroën will sell the car outright, but it also hopes to rent them out like electric scooters and other micro-mobility solutions.

Can you imagine the mayhem there would be if they were allowed in the bus lanes. Ridiculous idea.

Just more vermin for us to deal with,a Q of taxis and double deckers behind an army of scooters elbow to elbow jostling for position in the bus lane... ::fds ::fds ::fds.
AFAIK they will be allowed use cycle lanes with no mention of bus lanes that I heard.

The ejit who was all for them on the radio kept saying they would be in the bus lanes. Not sure who he was but he seemed like he was someone who was making decisions on the legality of these e scooters here in Ireland.

Is it only in Ireland that we legislate for cyclists and E-scutters, referred to hereafter as "Organ Donors" to share the same road space as their sworn enemy, the double-decker bus?

Don't know SB.....might be a good thing afterall!! lol

A Garda arrested a then 14-year-old boy after he almost crashed an e-scooter into a patrol vehicle in Dublin, a court has heard.
The boy, now aged 15, admitted driving without a licence or insurance on the evening of July 31 last year. He also pleaded guilty at the Dublin Children’s Court to assault and public order charges.
He stopped the boy and demanded to see his insurance and licence. He explained that under the Road Traffic Act, the e-scooter was classed as a mechanically propelled vehicle.
The boy, accompanied to court by his mother, already has six prior criminal convictions for motor theft, criminal damage, and burglary crimes.
The court heard that during another incident, the boy attacked two men near his home. He beat one with a large stick leaving cuts on his hand.
On an earlier date, gardaí spotted him making threats against members of his own family in a public place.
They were concerned the teen would cause a breach of the peace, so they arrested him under the Public Order Act.
He was also arrested for being intoxicated to such an extent he was a danger to himself and others on another date. The boy was apologetic afterwards.
PROMISING FOOTBALLER ??

Do you ever see those guys with the bicycles with the strimmer engine attached? They are even worse than e-scooters. I wonder do the guards stop people using them?

I saw a skobie at 01.30 last night in Artane on a Yammy 125, no lights, no helmet, (obviously no insurance), dressed in black puffa jacket, grey prison sweats, and thought, Ah f**k 'im.
No point in reporting him to the cops, they'll probably say "I'd guess he's on his way to football training". 8)

There was a glimmer of hope!!

Poor kid, only home for the weekend from Clongowes to see his DAD Ma! 8)

They should design a roadside memorial to E-scutterers, perhaps an e-scutter tastefully wrapped around a lamppost, or better still, embedded in a concrete bollard. 8)

Hopefully they'll all be in that bus lane at the same time and only one bus will be required!!

E-scooters now green-lit but legislation could take some time (https://www.irishtimes.com/business/transport-and-tourism/e-scooters-now-green-lit-but-legislation-could-take-some-time-1.4707046) (Irish Times, today)
Sounds like a blind eye will be turned to the e-scooters.

I saw one of those faster e scooters on Golden lane last week and yer man was going so fast is trackie jacket was buffetting like he was on a motorbike.

Carnage would be good for opponents of these things. If eScooter road deaths exceed Motorcycle road deaths per 1,000 kilos or whatever there'd be a reasonable case for banning them. It would make sense to lower the speed limit to 30 kilos per hour where a relatively high concentration of eScooters can be reasonably predicted e.g. within the opeational areas of any "Boris Bike" type schemes.
