Title: Skoda appreciation post
Post by: Sean306 on October 31, 2021, 05:59:01 pm
Driving a Skoda occy as a taxi the year and covered the usual high milage a taxi driver does and literally not so much as one fault with it. Do the usual service every 10k and keep her in check. Always drove a Japanese before this, needless to say I won't be be going back.

I scraped my Octavia a few weeks ago  :P

Admittedly, it was over 14 years old with over 480,000km on the clock.  Nice car but a smidgen small and the smelly drunks could get too close to you.  Driving a silent electric yoke now so I'll probably hear every fart & belch they emit.  Swings and roundabouts!

My memory of me octavia was definitely great road holding ...loved manual gearbox was great in the snow ....a tank ....
Comfortable seat , roomy ,  loads head room ....got rheumatoid toe from the clutch peddle ...heavy fukerr......headlight bulbs went nearly every month ..flywheel  needed  change every 100 k   ....liked the key lock button that opened  or closed all the windows ....timing belt change every 100 k a pain in the hole ......

Prious is infinitely more  reliable but made for midgets ......its a cnut of an uncomfortable box ....

I too had an octavia a few years back. Worst car I ever had. The clutch was turning to dust and had to be replaced every 5 or 6 weeks.  The brake pads were lasting longer than the clutch.  Brought it to 3 different mechanics. After it started slipping after the 3rd replacement I binned it. Never again. Toyota all the way for me.

a word of advice....as soon as you start having problems with the heating.....get rid of it..... Even Skoda don't know how to fix it....

@billyboy, ya flush the system and put in a new thermostat. Coolant should be replaced every few years anyway. Its one of the most basic systems in a car.

The MKII Octy was the best motor I ever bought. Serviced in accordance with manufacturers specifications bar doing the oil at 20k kilo intervals despite never reaching the variable prompt. Still in perfect working order despite Mrs. Catchers heavy handed feet being at the controls these days.

Never replaced coolant in any of my Octys, it's not in the service schedule and I never experienced any cooling circuit problems - not even in the MKI aka Trigger's Brush. It gets topped up when the timing belt/water pump is replaced.
