Transport Minister Eamon Ryan has announced that the hugely successful eSPSV scheme has now reopened for business in 2022. The Department of Transport has allocated €15 million for grants this year to enable owners of small public service vehicles, such as taxis, hackneys and limousines, to buy electric vehicles. The means by which this money is being made available to the industry is the Electric SPSV (eSPSV) Grant Scheme 2022. The scheme is funded by the Department of Transport and administered by NTA.
Further information about the eSPSV Grant Scheme 2022, including how to apply, can be found here.

Will priority be given to fleet owners with access to cash?

Transport Minister Eamon Ryan has announced that taxi drivers will be offered up to €25,000 to buy Electric Vehicles.
€15 million has been allocated by the Department of Transport to re-open the electric vehicle taxi scheme.
The grants will enable owners of small public service vehicles (SPSV), such as taxis and hackneys, to buy electric vehicles (EVs).
SPSV drivers can apply for grants of up to €10,000 towards the purchase of a new, full-battery eSPSV, with a further €2,500 available to convert it to a wheelchair-accessible model.
Taxi drivers are eligible for double the normal grant when they scrap an older, more polluting or high mileage vehicle and make the switch to electric.
By scrapping and switching to a new fully electric SPSV, €20,000 will be available.
If the taxi is a wheelchair-accessible electric vehicle, the support rises to €25,000.
SPSV drivers who make the switch to an EV can also avail of VRT relief of up to €5,000.
The Domestic Charger Scheme, up to €600, and annual toll refunds of up to €1,000.
Speaking about the scheme, Transport Minister Eamon Ryan said: “The electrification of the taxi fleet has been earmarked by the Department of Transport as an important component in the transition to cleaner fuels, contributing to the achievement of our national targets under the Climate Action Plan 2021 for the reduction of greenhouse-gas emissions in the transport sector.
“More and more professional taxi drivers are voting with their wallets and making the move to EVs as an efficient, sustainable and remarkably cost-effective alternative to expensive petrol and diesel
Almost 600 drivers successfully applied for grants in 2021, with over €11 million paid out as well as €4 million in provisional grant offers.
In addition to the eSPSV scheme, the Department of Transport is set to continue to invest in the installation of SPSV-dedicated recharging infrastructure across Ireland.
A number of recharging spots are in place at both Dublin and Cork airports and at a number of train stations including Dublin Heuston, Cork (Kent) and Limerick (Colbert), with more to be added throughout 2022.

It is first come first served AFAIK. The problem will be getting your mitts on an EV. General gossip suggests regular people are paying deposits now for Sept or later delivery.
If the scheme is like last year, they send you a grant letter of approval and you've 3 months from the date of the letter to get your EV passed out as a taxi. Gonna be a balancing act to put a deposit on a EV, apply for the grant, manage your savings & loans and line everything up to get your grant money when your taxi is passed out.
-
Its shadow boxing .If they get 10% of the Fleet on Duracell the Cabbages will declare victory over dirty diesel .
-
I've convinced myself that I'm not gonna get the EV taxi next time round. When my current one needs changing.Having to put a deposit on a year in advance then maybe the grant money being gone is turning me right off.I'm likely gonna pick up some heap of shite Dacia Logan diesel as it's a lot of unwanted agro going down the EV route.Dunno how I got to this..
The free money is attractive but the vehicles are still too expensive with too many variables.
Best of luck to all that give it a go.

Get a part worn Crypmobile .Put your Saloon plate on it no need to do any wheelie jobs and ageless use .Them are the rules so use them rules .THE NTA should arrange the lot for you .or appoint an agent .You put down the Deposit and get a ready to drive vehicle within a time frame .If Russia invade we might all get Russian Battery cars from our Comrades .

If someone gave me a brand new MG for nothing I'd still be complaining about having to plug it in.I'm barely spending 30/40 a week on Juice.Maybe I'm not ready.Seems like a lot of hassle after doing the research.

Hopefully the dossers have to queue behind the workers.

8 to 9 hours for a full charge .But beware Today Ireland Inc signed deals for new Gas generation Electricity Generators .The deal is set at Todays Gas Prices so if gas goes down after the second Russian Gas pipe is turned on we are welded into higher Electricity Prices for the next ten Years .Cost of a charge and increased Road Tax might level up the costs with Fosil fuel .Remember the Government want to cut your Emissions not cut your Costs .
-
If I can put on my know-it-all hat for a moment, I'd advise 3 things before going down the EV grant route:
1. Pay someone to check your house can take a home charger. I can see things getting tight with more and more EVs on the road and taxis will be an easy target when people start moaning about the lack of public chargers.
2. Some EV's are like starships inside with huge screens. If you're looking at a particular model, imagine what a drunken cnut can break at 2am & imagine how much to replace. You won't be buying it second-hand in the breakers yard!
3. If you can afford them;
a. Kia EV6 - comes with privacy glass that apparently can't be changed by the dealer.
b. Hyundai Ionic doesn't offer a taxi warranty. They have warranties for private & commercial but not taxis. I don't know what 'commercial' means.

If you have the right house, solar panels are the next big thing after EV's. You can hook your solar panels into your home charger & charge the car for free. And (soon) any excess can be feed back into the grid for a profit. I'm pretty sure you can get grants for solar panels as well.

Nah, I'm sure that the grant will be gone before I'm ready, barring accidents. 265k miles on the clock, April 15 reg, so 3 years left on it, am banking on getting 2 years. Sorry I don't digest all the info on here, have all cars got a 1 year life extension?
-
Not yet Bob.All they said was no taxi would exit the fleet in 2020/2021 due to age.Assuming this covid stuff is done soon the rules will go back to where they were previously.

I'd say yes.
-
Would the "workers" have 9 hours to charge the fucker?
I'd say the MPOs are licking their brown envelopes as we doss.

Frank Keane had 2 of the older (lower range) MG SUV types available off the shelf yesterday. September delivery for the newer one.
-
Yes RC, but I dont think the short range one would be a smart use of my money.I'd prefer the long-range version so I can keep it plated up for longer without the battery degradation becoming a problem in the later years of ownership.
Also I've still another year to decide but I'm reluctant to put any deposit down incase they get them in early (or worse later) and I'm not ready to sign for it.I might just save for a year and see what comes up.So far just doing nothing has worked out great.
-
Id hold on…The grants will increase if they get very few takers.

Doesn't "ageless" only apply to WAVs licenced before April 2014.
If you change to a WAV now the age limit is 15 years....... still better than the 10 year limit on Saloons. Usually a few privately owned WAVs for sale with low miles and often cheaper than a Saloon from the same year.
-
The shorter range is probably a non-runner alright, MfH... but a city gent like yourself would probably get more range out of the short range than the commuting scum would get out of the longer one. Diesel is getting increasingly frightening with four figure DPFs to add to Timing belts, clutches, etc...
-
I could do it alright RC but I like the excess range and possibly get away with charging it less often.I have been all over the country in my Prius since covid and still would like a enough range to get to Cork/Kerry.
I'll still keep an eye out for a heavily discounted secondhand leccy motor that can get the partial grant. That may be where the real value can be found.

That’s my plan in a couple of years buy a 7 year vw caddy or something similar stick normal plate on and get 7/8 years out of it.

My plan was to win a brand new EV from Free Now. Alas, I didn't complete enough jobs to gain entry to the raffle.
You know when there's competitions associated with buying products and there's always a bit of small print saying no purchase necessary, send entry to PO BOX xxx. Is that a legal requirement and, if so, was it observed by Mr. Fox? ... the Mr. Fox that runs Free Now, that is not the Mr. Fox that owns loads of taxis including the one operated by the driver who won the EV from Free Now.
-
Who’s mr fox and mr fox not to familiar with either or either ?
-
Mr. Alan Fox is Free Now's GM for Ireland, France and Portugal... or some such.
Mr. Philip Fox is a bloke who doesn't drive a taxi but owns lots of taxis, including T17822 which is the taxi currently being operated by Mr. Trundle (J4830), the driver who won the EV from Free Now.
Probably nothing more to it than pure coincidence.
Please excuse my jealousy!
-
Still, jealousy aside, someone can presumably apply for the €20,000 grant as the EV is plated. It might be interesting to see what name is on the plate and what (if any) car is scrapped. Then again, it might not!
Clever of Free Now to hold back until the day before the grant scheme opened for 2022, I guess.
-
They probably applied for the grant and were granted the extension from 2021 and they always have the inside track where info from the NTA is concerned....it's a fit up I tells ye!!
-
To do that would they not have needed to apply in the plate owner's name. Surely Mr. Fox couldn't have predicted that?
-

Well Mr Trundle won't be owning a plate anytime soon,he'll still be renting a plate from Philo or whoever but given that he's tied in some way to FN for that jammer....it stinks RC.
-
There's probably nothing more than coincidence to it... but that shouldn't stop us amusing ourselves.
It's years since the erm wrote a forum pantomime. I wonder what he could do with a collection of characters like:
A bloke who drives a taxi who'll probably retire within 10 years.
A bloke who owns the taxi the first bloke drives along with a load of others, some on completely clapped out shiteboxes.
A bloke running a dispatch firm with a free car which is eligible for huge grants to give away, said bloke being related to the bloke who owns the taxis.
-
I know.....this is the shite we love speculating about, surprised John hasn't been all over this story like the only bad suit he owns!!
-
There's no smoke without fire... ::fuck............smokes and daggers the fookers... ::fuck ::fuck
-
No registration plate number on the car and been driving on a public road, disgraceful behavior altogether.
-
Sure it's Brendan that'll get done for it. Why would Mr. Fox or Mr. Fox give a fox...

Here's an idea, The Fantastic Mr Fox:Fantastic Mr. Fox is a charming story adapted to the screen and directed by Wes Anderson. The story follows, Mr. Fox who is the foxiest fox alive on fox-world and indeed a professional & most successful chicken burglar ever and has a dangerous lifestyle. But reality shows up and he must leave his chicken stealing business behind because of his pregnant lover, she needs him to settle down to take care of his family. But we know a person (read "fox") who has stolen in the past is likely to commit the crime again! Eventually, 12 fox years later, Mr. Fox becomes bored with his regular day time job and feeling unsatisfied with his state of life. So he decides to go back to the rough, for one last action. 8)

Just like the taxi game!!

Wouldn't trust free now to raffle a tin of biscuits let alone a 38k car
I go with fit up on this one

Still more transparency than the old fashioned cab companies.

I got an email from the NTA acknowledging receipt of my postal application for the 2022 grant.

Will Mr Trundle keep his rental contract in a PhiloFox? 8)

Remains to be seen. As Hal says, I'm probably being a tad cynical but it does strike me as interesting that of all the taxis Mr. Fox owns - the Mr. Fox that doesn't drive a taxi but owns lot's of taxis, not to be confused with the Mr. Fox that works for Free Now as it's GM for Irealand, France and Portugal or some such - the one operated by the driver that won the brand new car from the firm run by Mr. Fox - the Mr. Fox that works for Free Now as it's GM for Ireland, Portugal and France or some such not to be confused with the Mr. Fox that owns lots of taxis - happens to drive a car that's on it's last permissible year of operation.

And I had ticket No 11 anall....cunts!!
