Title: Guarenteed Irish Chaos at Airport
Post by: watty on May 29, 2022, 05:29:07 pm
Anyone see the scenes at Dublin airport today?  It reminded me of those Vietnam videos of the fall of Saigon.  Absolute chaos and that's only the warm up.  Next weekend is the Bank Holiday and numbers will be worse!

Fig: Scenes from Dublin Airport Sunday Morning (maybe)

The DAA is obviously to blame by not having enough staff when they must have known for months how many people would be travelling through the airport each day.  It's not like 50,000 people woke up this morning and decided on a whim to flash mob the airport.

But they're also telling people to turn up 3 and 4 hours early.  And people are panicking and turning up 4  and 5 hours early and taking up all the physical space inside the airport and they have nowhere to go until their plane departs.  Madness!

In the Indo, a DAA spokesman is quoted as:
Quote
"We assure we have the safety and security of passengers as a priority, we have pedastrianised the zone outside the airport and have airport police and An Garda Siochana also present to make sure it’s a safe environment to queue.  "Taxis are allowed outside the terminal, we have a designated area for all vehicles.”
I saw no concessions for taxis?  It was every man for himself!  I just dropped people off about 300 metres from the terminal and fukked off.  I didn't see I had any other option.

I believe that the DAA have a subsidiary business teaching other countries how to run their airports! Their traffic management skills at DAP are abysmal.

It worked better when only cabs were allowed drop at T1. T2 has always been fine. Bring back the cattle boats.

If they missed their flights and had to get a taxi home, it's likely the Keshies would take them the 'scenic' way.
A small consolation for a ruined holiday, I suppose - getting to see parts of Dublin they normally wouldn't   O:-)

DAA let over 1000 people go and if they took redundancy they CANNOT reapply for the job they left for two years .DAA are only offering 20 hour fixed contracts .A young lad from Balbriggan did the interview got the job didnt bother taking it .You are only guaranteed 20 hours a week but must be available at all times to do up to 40 .The big question is why did DAA pay off staff when the Government were paying the staff wages .Anybody think DAA is going to be sold off ?New staff are being employed on a different contract to existing workers same as Go Bus and CIE new drivers have different contracts .Its a race to the bottom for wages to make these companies more profitable for when the EU decide that Semi State bodies must be sold off and the industry opened up to competition .

Yet another Mehaul fuck up. When are we getting rid of this useless piece of shit. He has to rank as the worst Taoiseach to ever hold office anywhere in the world. He's a disgrace to his parents, to his parish, to his county, to his country and to the EEC.

Bring back Dr. Leo, Dr. Leo was great so he was...

The DAA work was in the ASU which is now privatised. OCS do a lot of the drone work in the 'port.

The DAA are acting the maggot with the staff wages and if they don't cop on, which they seemingly have not by not promising the Gov that it will not happen again then it's quite likely the same will happen again this weekend or something similar if they take all the baggage handlers and put them in security.
If they are unwilling to pay the staff then the problems will continue.

DAA/ASU was audited on security systems by  EU officials doing test runs. The officials were able to get guns, drugs, explosives, and weaponry through security with ease.

Random profiling one in 20 has now been reduced to one in 5, causing the massive backlogs we see.

Former employees made redundant are not allowed to apply for new - lower-paid - positions for two years.

Body search and cavity searches are very particular skills:
