Dear Johnny,
On August 1st, 2022, we will update our General Terms & Conditions (GTCs) for passengers.
The update includes the following:
To allow for the introduction of new mobility services such as eBikes and eScooters, provided by our mobility partners through the FREE NOW app.
A technology fee of €1 will apply to all taxi trips booked and successfully completed via the FREE NOW app.
These updates will allow us to continue to invest in improving FREE NOW’s technology and app quality.
For further information, please check out Frequently Asked Questions here. To see our GTCs, click here.

So they're gonna push up to price if the fares which will encourage more scooter usage then eventually charge for the scooters. That's just pure evil.Ya have to laugh at the neck of the cunts.

Yep that's it in a nutshell
-
Can someone explain this in a nutshell ? Cause it looks illegal ta me ....
-
It effectively a fare increase by another name and as mentioned I bet they have their T's dotted and their i's crossed,so now the passengers are paying a commission albeit a flat rate...see how they'll enjoy that!!
-

Its simple You want to use their app you pay .They are not making any coin by introducing a Full 1 euro surcharge if they cover half a million jobs a month their takings are up by Half a million plus ther 15% of our 12% .If I was guessing I recon they will introduce Gold Customers Who if they use the app 6 or 8 times a week they will not pay the 1 euro .Surcharge .
-
Or they could allow them to use the scooters for free after x amount of taxi jobs. After the passengers get used to being on them they'll change the fee structure so that they pay per use of scooters. They will move them out of our cars so they don't need us as much.
And still we will have the ambassadors telling us how great Freenow are.
Every time they pull this stuff the service falls on it's hole for a few weeks with drivers leaving it off.
-
Did you realize what they said .They are charging a Euro not that Drivers are getting that Euro .So how do they charge the Euro to non Card Customers .Will the Driver have to pay it .It cannot be added to the metered fare its not part of the metered fare ?
-
Yeah I read it John..It's very Ryanair.Anything that increases the fares is bad for us.All the passenger will see is the end price and reconsider getting the bus/scooter.
Sorry I read your post again...they might just insist on no cash like Uber do already.
-

We cannot add it to the Fare its Illegal so how do they get it .Is it coming out of Drivers earnings .HOW DO THEY COLLECT IT FROM NON CARD CUSTOMERS .
-
Sorry John I read your post again...they might just insist on no cash like Uber do already.Could stop a lot of fiddling too.
-

Great so we get the Cash Customers back now get a sticker for the car to inform YOUR customers YOU take Card .
-
Makes more sense John now that they've shot themselves in the foot agian.
They're also getting the increase in the fare rise. Why the hell can't they make the numbers work at 15% commission without all this extra aggro for the passengers.
-
I wonder what the average commission is across the country. With this extra euro they could easily be getting a fiver a job.Good money if you can get it.

You might not believe this but the thing is so badly run it probably does not make a Profit .Im sure its Franchised there are a lot of moving parts from Advertising App destruction Staff Office rental .The Irish Market is smaller than Manchester or Liverpool .

So wen we type in €10 on an account job thats on the meter puc included....fleenow take €11 out of customers bank account ....?
On cash jobs we can only charge €10 wats on the meter ...
€ 11 would be illegal obviously so I don't know how this is even possible ....Still don't get it oops
-
They can just scrap all cash work.It might suit them to do so with drivers making up their own prices on cash jobs. That's what Uber does.
-

Ok let me try this .the tracking algorythim tells them how much the fare should be .They probably have noticed they are losing fortunes as drivers enter the wrong Fare (I dont If I accept the Job I pay them their ransom ) So they might of done the sums and worked out if they Go all Card Only they eliminate that issue Plus they train the Customer to stick with the App when they have a Card Payment non App alternative .They cover less work but get a larger take .
-
My kid wants an eScooter for his birthday. Can I charge a €1 'technology fee' if I stick up a poster in my taxi?

This is how they propose doing it. "

D'jever wonder is it a "good cop, bad cop" game with FN and Bolt, as Mercedes DB are invested in both of them, and they will just regularly leap frog the increases between them, and pretend tht it's competition. I don't think that I have yet seen them both offering driver promotions at the same time.

Think about it .They get Ludmilla or Igor in a taxi from the Google Ghetto up to O Connell Street 7 euro on the meter .Their share 105 but if Ludmilla takes a scooter or bike they might get the same money without those pesky drivers .With all the pedestrianisation of the city center taxis wont be a great way to get around .The future is non peddelable bike or scooter .
-

Hmmm. I avoid the city centre as much as possible so who knows....
A lot of my customers are women who are likely to have paid €150 for their haircut and another €150 for the outfit. They are not using public transport or scooters to get to work or the pub. They are gonna turn up immaculate. Same with the pink euro. Another big part of my customers are people working minimum wage in Tesco etc. They are lazy fukkers who want to be driven from their bed/front door to work. They'd probably fall asleep if they have to stand up on a scooter :P Taxis will always be needed!
Vive La Taxi ::clap ::clap ::clap

If a driver is stupid enough to do a bribe/ hospitality job they get charged €2.00 to pay the bribe to the hotel, the punter, in turn, gets charged €1.00 bribe/technology fee for using an App'. The driver also pays a 15% commission on top of all that, then there are banking fees and credit card fees. If only Generation Z could learn to raise their arm in a Heil style they'd save themselves and their drivers a small fortune.
-
Speaking of hospitality jobs I got one earlier from the Raddision Golden Lane. The same kip that wouldn't allow me to use their jax a few months ago.All we can do is accept then block them after driving around with another fare for 20 mins. The hotels will get the hint eventually.

Or leave a full piss bottle under your car when you pull up, when you see the punter approach simply drive off whilst avoiding said bottle. If they want to take the piss, you're only leaving it. 8)

A Sunday Times journo tweeted about this earlier today he said,
"FreeNow is adding a €1 "technology fee" to all bookings from August, presumably on top of the €2 booking fee. This means the meter will read €7.20 on weekends and evenings before you even get in the cab. And if there are three people with you it will read €10.20."
"Taxi fares are also due to increase by 60c from September. The above figures will then be: €7.80 and €10.80"
Later he tweeted "There is an error in my tweet - the €1 technology charge will be charged via the app, and will not appear on the meter. It makes little difference to the customer though."
So "if" it makes little difference to the customer, who takes the 1 euro hit? , the driver?
It's about as clear as mud

In the context of his wording and correcting his tweet,he just means whether it's on the meter(which it's not) or through the app(which it is)...the passenger will be paying.

Makes sense. They increased freight by 50% since the last fare increase. NTAs failure to compensate drivers for this increase creates scope for dispatch firms to charge directly in respect of the value added.
With the current shortage of taxis I guess it also makes sense for Free Now to invest in the provision of alternative mobility solutions as it does in other jurisdictions. Charging the client directly may prove to be a very clever move as it could well lead to a form of surge pricing to regulate demand at peak times through some sort of priority service fee... and the firm wouldn't have to give the driver any of it.
-
I suppose if enough punters removed/altered their credit card details in the app and only booked cash jobs, then they couldn't collect . I wonder where they would go looking for more money then ?

That is a very interesting if not somewhat disturbing thought Stephen.
-
I was looking through the Freenow charges on their German site and the service fee is €1.50.Also they charge from the second the driver turns up just like Uber.
This is just the beginning.Hopefully the NTA will step in and regulate what the apps can and can't charge for.Bottom line is our passengers are paying more whether we see any of it or not.As a licenced dispatcher Freenow should be held accountable for making up random charges like Ryanair.
Hopefully, drivers use them a lot less and make them reconsider being such greedy bastards.
-
What's a bit mad is there are a few ambassadors on here staying very very quiet. Are yis that afraid of Freenow? All the whinging about Uber rideshare coming in and charging 20%.Freenow are gonna be getting the same money now when you include the fare increase and the euro technology charge and they didn't even have to bribe a minister for rideshare.I'd be embarrassed to put them ambassador stickers my car.
-
On one hand Nta is encouraging people to be drivers, while FN is increasing the costs of getting a taxi. This translates to more drivers and less work

Here's a thought..
Freenow get 15% of a tenner fare which is €1.50.With the euro tech fee now they're gonna be getting 25% fees on the tenner.Uber doesn't sound that bad at all now.
-
FN have gotten greedier and greedier over the years, the old 10% was good fer drivers, the 12% was fair to all, 15% was just greedy, and the new extra Euro per fare is just ultra greedy.
FN were already getting an additional 15% of the drivers 12% fare increase, and they have the Lions share of the market, fer now.
GREED IS A TERRIBLE THING !

Here is the bottom line .Interest rates are going to explode taxi usage will be down about 30 or 40% .expect about 20% of Pubs to go broke no free Covid coin to keep them open .As interest rates go up rents will go up .I doubt all of the Apps will survive .Ill call it now Free Now cease trading within two years .
-
With any luck John.

With any luck John.
They know the Taxi market will shrink ,thats why they are looking for teck charge ,Will that also apply to bike or scooter rental ?When Thick Third Level educated idiot realizes you can stick out your hand and stop a taxi and pay by card .The service on offer from the Apps will be diminished .If they couldnt make Profits in an Expanded market they wont survive the Contraction in demand .Its simple economics .Deliveroo Uber Eats and ,other Bike Dinner delivery services will also suffer .a 3% increase in Mortgage Payments and rent increases will empty the dancefloor in Coppers faster than a fat Man Farting .

There use to be 13 bookies in Inchicore now there are two .There use to be 9 Butchers now there is 1 .You can still bet and eat beef .People can still use a taxi without the apps as the preferred hailing mechanism ?

I've simplified my method by using the App in the sprawling housing estates of our suburbs, or street work in the centre
