Energy Minister Eamon Ryan has said he believes targeting the revenues of energy companies to help to reduce household bills could work in Ireland.

Mr Ryan said he supports the European Commission proposal and hopes an agreement will be reached on Friday which will help to cushion the blow for Irish households.

The proposal is similar to a windfall tax on profits, but it would target suppliers who do not depend on BURNING GAS  to generate power.

Is he FUCKING INSANE .He wants more Windmills or tidal generated Power but he then wants to tax the people who provide clean energy more than those who burn Gas .Im sure Overseas investors thinking of building big Windmill Farms off our Coasts are thinking is it windy somewhere else in the World where we can invest without these eejits .Stop building Data Centers or sponsoring Electric Cars or Electric Bikes .Stop promoting stuff we dont have the Electricity to run you FUCKING TURNIP .

He also said local authorities across the country are already looking at reducing Christmas lights this winter to help with the energy crisis.

He said the Government is not being prescriptive yet but added: “I think local authorities are starting to look at that, they are starting to consider every measure.”

Mr Ryan will meet with Taoiseach Micheál Martin and Tanáiste Leo Varadkar on Tuesday evening to discuss how they plan to reduce energy use across the country, with a memo expected to go before Cabinet on Wednesday.

“With regard to the European Commission proposals, they have included this idea that in electricity production, which is not from gas, that there are very high profits being made now and to look at taking some of that revenue and actually use it to lower the prices for the householders," said Mr Ryan.

I think that’s a mechanism that could work, should work, will work.
“We’ve to get the finer details of it on Friday and discuss it with my Cabinet colleagues and party leader colleagues this evening in a meeting.

"I think it may work well in the Irish market, not to protect us completely but to be a significant help.”

He said a meeting on Friday of energy ministers across the EU will decide the mechanisms on how to adjust the market and he is hopeful an agreement will be reached which will allow the Government to introduce measures “to try and cushion the blow of some of those higher bills”.

Mr Ryan said the memo going to Cabinet on Wednesday will be the first of a series to manage what “is going to be a very difficult situation in energy”.

The coalition leaders are expected to agree on proposals that they hope will reduce energy use in the public sector.

This will include temperature limits in buildings and heating certain floors of offices where people are working.

“Reduce your Use campaign has been clear, it’s about reducing the use of heat, reduce the use of light, power in a whole variety of different ways and we’ll start with that in the public sector, setting temperature limits, consolidating buildings so we’re not heating the whole building, making sure we’re switching things off in an effective way.”

He said household bills will continue to be significant this winter because “energy is being used as a weapon of war”.

The European Commission is proposing a mandatory reduction in electricity use during peak hours as part of sweeping new measures to tackle the energy crisis.

Other measures include a price cap on energy companies who produce electricity through LOW CARBON METHOD  - such as renewables - but who have availed of artificially high revenues because of the price of gas, and a windfall tax on fossil fuel companies.

LEARN FROM THIS .YOUR LOW EMISSIONS EV will at some stage be taxed to fuck .So much for Free Market economics .They cant control the price of a Gaff but they can a Pint or Electricity .

DONT PANIC RODENT I WONT DISSAPOINT YOU .....The annual cost of a typical family’s gas and electricity bills could hit €6,000 next year, potentially plunging more than half of all households into energy poverty, the Cabinet was secretly warned this week.

Dire projections on the impact of the soaring cost of wholesale gas, brought about by the war in Ukraine, have been laid bare in a memo given to ministers.

In what is likely to prompt further alarm within the Coalition, the memo also outlined energy companies’ growing concern about their liquidity positions. This is because they are being forced to make huge collateral payments to gas suppliers before the fuel is delivered.

It's clear that if they tax the profits of these companies they'll just pass that on to their customers unless govt place a cap on prices but they've been wanting in making real decisions that will help households.

Here is the Governments Problem .You tax the Power Companies extra because they made extra profits to help people pay their bills .The real way to do it is stop the VAT .That way you dont pay the VAT in the First place so get an automatic reduction in your pocket .You are getting the reduction before you even pay it and no need to extra tax companies

BUT if they tax the Profits of Electricity Companies then why did they not tax more the excessive profits of the Big Pharma Companies to help pay for the Covid Crisis as they made Billions in excessive Profits from Vaccine Sales .

Why would foreign investors put money into Ireland or Europe if they are successfull the Governments can change the tax rules .

GET A GUN and learn a little bit of Russian

MONEY HAS NO LOYALTY OR COUNTRY .....War, a winter of energy rationing, a coming recession that could outlast any American one, and a newly hawkish ECB. How Europe will surmount its mountain of troubles is anyone’s guess, and investors aren’t sticking around to find out.

Money managers yanked $3.4bn(€3.3bn) from European stock funds in the week through September 7, taking total outflows in the past six months to $83bn (€82bn), according to Deutsche Bank AG, citing EPFR Global data.

Paggo wont be happy when our Thieving tax regime lose out on his tax fiddle .....

ARE THEY REALLY SERIOUS EAMO AND THE ONIONS DONT LIKE ENERGY SECURITY ?

Ireland has not joined other European countries in seeking to source temporary floating liquified natural gas (LNG) terminals as part of an effort to diversify fuel supplies amid the ongoing energy crisis.

The Department of the Environment confirmed that the State has not tried to secure floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs) for LNG similar to those ordered by Germany, the Netherlands and other EU countries.

The Green Party has major concerns over LNG due to the environmentally damaging fracking process being used in its extraction by some producers. Others in Government, particularly in Fine Gael, have argued it should remain an option.

The Coalition adopted a policy statement in opposition to importing fracked gas in May of last year, though it stopped short of a legal ban. This policy is in place pending the results of a review of the security of Ireland’s energy supply, which is due to be published next week ahead of a period of public consultation

In recent days, the Financial Times reported that there as many as 19 new FSRU projects around Europe as countries seek alternatives to sourcing gas from Russia.

Ireland gets most of its gas through interconnectors with the United Kingdom and from the Corrib gas field off the Co Mayo coast and is far less reliant on Russian gas than European neighbours. However, some believe FSRUs could provide an insurance policy in case of disruption to supply from the UK, given the Corrib field is nearing exhaustion.

ANOTHER PUBLIC CONSULTATION .Why have we got a Government if they keep asking us .

The department confirmed that Ireland had not sought to source FSRUs to date. A spokesman said that under the policy on fracked gas, “it would not be appropriate for the development of any LNG terminals in Ireland to be permitted or proceeded with” ahead of the outcome of the energy security review.

The review is examining the key risks to the security of supply of electricity and gas as well as options to mitigate these. These include “the need for additional capacity to import energy, including LNG, energy storage, fuel diversification and renewable gases such as hydrogen”.

The Irish Times asked a spokeswoman for Minister for the Environment and Green Party leader Eamon Ryan if he would allow the use of LNG or FSRUs if recommended by the review. She said the energy review will be published next week and “it’s best to wait until then for further detail on the paper in the round and on the options that it may contain”.

She said Mr Ryan had previously said a State-owned storage capacity would have to be available to Irish people in the event of any supply disruption without breaching Ireland’s climate action plans.
