Title: Motor tax refund
Post by: taxi1990 on September 27, 2022, 02:00:09 pm
I got my motor tax on 9th of August. Forgot about the refund until now. Seems like you can apply until the end of September but the receipt can't be more than 30 days from the day of application.
Anyone else in the same position? Is there any leeway on it?

If you report the disc lost or stolen the replacement will have the new issue date on it.... would that work?

No, because that would be outside the date of 1st September 2021 to 31 August 2022.

Send it in and see what transpires. Worst case scenario you'll get nothing, same as not sending it in. Use email if that's an option to save the price of the stamp.

They declined my refund because I was late. I guess you can put it against your tax instead.

20% -vs- 100% rebate... although I'd say a lot of lads claimed it as a business expense AS WELL!

it was more than 30 days after you paid for the motor tax? seems very petty of them if that is the case, so what like, it was still submitted before the 30th of September.

I suppose we are just busy driving people around. So many things to be doing running a business, easy to forget something.
It should have been done like the way we got a free NCT.

If my missus didn't have access to a photocopier I'd have never bothered even applying for the rebate out of laziness.

I would be in the same boat MFH but as I was on to the NTA to book suitability I requested the forms in the post.
And as Italia 90 suggests it should have been done similar to NCT.... and Suitability.

That's funny because I'm sure you wouldn't turn down a €95 fare?

It's the time involved too....then if you don't have a stamp or an enveloppe....Yesterday I spent 15 minutes queueing in the post office for a postage stamp to send documents back to the leccy car grant section in the NTA Galway.I'm still angry about it..

I have turned down long jobs in the past..Depends on me mood to be honest.

Does your car to be taxed as a Taxi to get the rebate? Mines be taxed privately since the pandemic coz Queen Street was closed and I didn't bother sending off the form from the suitability to Galway.

At the very least, it looks like you had to send in a sPSV insurance cert so I guess that rules you out? And you had to send it in within 30 days of getting your motor tax.

Here's the application form fwiw --> https://www.nationaltransport.ie/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/MT1-Form-Guide.pdf (https://www.nationaltransport.ie/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/MT1-Form-Guide.pdf)

I remember doing mine now, it was a dose, I wouldnt bother doing it again !
Firstly contact NTA to post the form (which happened to be convenient as I was booking suitability),
Fill out the form,
Get photocopies of motor tax cert, insurance cert and log book, (I don't have a printer or copier),
get an envelope and a stamp and post them off.

I think after numerous emails telling me that my rebate claim was being processed,
I was eventually paid 7 weeks later.

Like I stated above, I don't have a printer.
The form must be done on paper with ink.

Yeah just to have Hal.No intention of using it but the ten-year rule is still in place as yis know if I write off black beauty tomorrow. I'll likely apply for it next year too.

With interest rates going up and up anything is possible.

Dear Taxi1990,
The NTA regrets to inform you that your application has been rejected for the following reason(s):

The Motor Tax Refund scheme was launched on 1st September 2021 by the Department of Transport as a financial support to the SPSV industry during this Covid-19 pandemic.

This scheme was in place for one year from that launch date closing on 31st August 2022. This scheme is now closed and no further applications will be accepted.

If you have any questions in relation to the above, please do not hesitate to contact us on 0818 064 000.

Yours sincerely,

National Transport Authority

Doesn't really make senses as you can submit the application before 30th September 2022. Tax was paid for in August and I sent the application before 30th September.

It seems the closing date of 31/08/2022 is final, with no mention of 30/09/2022. Write it off against tax.

I will but I will ring them about it.

3.3 The deadline for receipt of an application under the Scheme is 30 September 2022.

Hard to believe they have been so picky about it, its supposed to be about helping taxis due to a pandemic.
