Post by: Belker on October 21, 2022, 07:35:37 am
Speaking to a Latvian man in the cab last night who has been living in Dubai fer the last 8 years.
The talk was about the 10 year rule in Ireland and he told me that in Dubai the rule on taxies is not by age but by the odometer and 1 million km was the end mark fer Dubai taxies.

Can anyone remember the thinking behind the ten year rule? It's been at decade since it was put in the regulations. All I remember was complete shit talk about quality and standards but they haven't changed except for the number on the reg plates.

it was done around the time when the country collapsed to reduce the amount of taxis to make the game more viable and make it more difficult theoretically for part timers to stay in the game and new entrants to enter. ye had that cunty 3 year rule as well if you wanted to buy a plate you could'nt put it on a car less than 3 years old. made the cost of entry in to the game about 25K+ during a filthy dirty recession.

The Latvian must have felt a right fool moving from the desert to a city that floods every time it rains  :P

P.S. the title is wrong. According to you, there is no 10 year rule in Dubai.
